Chapter 5 - The Mountain's Secrets
Harry was amazed at what he was learning and what he could do. The numerous rooms in the mountain all had a different lesson to teach him. Some of the rooms challenged his mind, others made him face his fears, while yet others helped him gain skills with his newly discovered powers. It was a learning experience he found both fulfilling and draining. Moira was with Harry half the time and poring through her grandmother's books looking for a something she remembered her grandmother telling her about. She was having little luck and it was starting to frustrate her.
"You know if you just stop and ask the ceiling you might get an answer."
She had been so involved in her search she had not noticed Harry enter the room.
"I'm frustrated!!"
Harry smiled, not because his wife was frustrated, but because he wanted to hear her voice as much as possible and she had shouted just to show him how much power her voice could have. It was like a breath of fresh air to him.
"I'm sorry, is there anything I can do to help you find it?" Harry asked.
"I'm not even sure what I am looking for, how could you help me find it."
"Okay, we are looking for what again?" Harry asked as he ran his hand through his already messy hair.
"I think it called 'union,' but I'm not sure what it is. It might be a spell, or a potion or nothing at all."
"Well, you found the magnification chant, which is a start," Harry said trying to make her feel better.
"Yes, but it is useless without the other half of the idea. Then again we have no idea if it will even work."
"Did your grandma have a secrete place, or journals like your mom?"
"Well, I do not know. I will show you where she slept and worked."
"Let's go have a look."
Moira led the way and they searched. After much searching, deep in a crevice of a rock wall Harry pulled out a small book and a piece of parchment.
"I think I found something. Look at this."
"What have you got?"
"I'm not sure let's find out."
Harry looked over her shoulder as they started reading.
"Oh my, we found it Harry."
They studied what here grandmother had written and it was kind of sketchy. She was still researching the idea when she died. The parchment was an almost complete formula for a potion of some kind.
"Well, this is simple, but complicated at the same time."
Moira was not sure how to feel.
"Does this potion have anything to do with it? It was in the book."
He reached down and touched the parchment.
"Yes, but from what I know of her potions and this list of ingredients, we still have some work to do on it. Also from what she has written is simply makes the union separation easier, so it is not absolutely necessary."
"No, let me see instead we get to, and I quote, 'get to feel what it is like to me torn in two both physically and emotionally.' That sounds good."
"Well, long and short of it, we don't have the things to make this potion here, nor do we have the time to figure the rest of it out. I am sure with time I can do it, but we only have four days left here, then we get a week to relax remember. We will have to work on it at Hogwarts."
"Okay, so do we wait until then to try this union thing, or learn what it is like to be torn in two?"
"Well, I believe it was you who said we would nothing get in the way."
They spent the rest of the afternoon reading and rereading the book and trying to figure out exactly the best way to go about making two people into one. They both simply had to will it to be done at the same time with a very intense connection already established telepathically. Moira sat the book down and look at Harry and smiled.
"Well all that is left to do is give it a try. Then maybe we can finish the last chapter in my grandmother's book."
Harry took her in his arms and started kissing her. He did not know to do this, but he knew how to get as close to his wife. She laughed and ran up to the kitchen. He followed and they chased each other all over the mountain. When Harry caught her one more time he realized they were at the entrance to where had woken her up. She smiled at him, took his hand and walked through the wall. He walked through the wall and felt the warmth in this room. He could not help all of the memories coming back. This was where they were married; this is where they made love for the first time, and where he came to the knowledge of who he really was. It was the perfect place to become one. He kissed her as he ran his hand down her back and pulled her in close. He loved how she seemed to melt in his arms. He picked her up and carried her over to the bed. He gently laid her down on the bed and looked into her eyes. He closed his eyes and tried to remove any barrier he could, when she did the same they seemed to be able to read every thought feeling and desire. As they made love Harry could not possibly imagine how a union could bring them closer. Harry was holding his wife and she pulled him to his feet.
"Dance with me."
Harry stepped to a simple dance that Moira was humming softly. He stepped behind her. It was as simple as him taking one step forward and her not. Neither of them could have told you when it exactly happened, but when it was not possible for them to have two separate thoughts they stopped. Had anyone been there to see them it would have been like looking at them both at the same time. It was as simple as if they were one person. When they spoke, you heard both voices, there could be only one thought in their head. It was an interesting sensation. They spent the next while figuring out what this allowed them to do. They could not believe how it magnified their powers. Maybe their idea would work after all. It was an education not only in understanding each other, but also in building their ability to know what they could do.
The time passed quickly and they knew they needed to figure out how to undo what they had done. With all they had they tried to think different thoughts and step in separate directions. They literally felt like a knife was cutting them apart. They both screamed and where crying as the knelt side by side, two people again. They felt as if the had been killed. Their pain was as great as their joy had been in the union. Sobbing Harry picked up his wife and carried her to the bed. They were not sure how long they cried in each others arms, but one thing was for sure, they needed to get that potion worked out.
They were grateful that they had a few days to regroup and collect themselves. They made getting that potion figured out a top priority. And they spent a lot of time trying to figure out all the things they would possibly need from the mountain. When it was time to leave they didn't want to leave something they might need behind. Harry turned his mind to the future and started to worry.
"You shouldn't worry so much."
"I have to worry for the both us; you don't seem to worry at all."
"It's not that I don't worry Harry, it's just... it does me no good to do it. So I simply don't.
"Easy for you to say and I know your right, but I just can't help it."
"Just think of something else."
"Like what."
"Well for starters, how are we going to get that potion figured out!?"
"I was thinking we could ask Mrs. Weasley to pick up the potion items when we all go to Diagon Alley next week. There is no way we would be allowed to purchase them, but I don't think she would have any troubles."
"That's good, but a few of those items are rare and are not going to be cheep."
"We will have to stop by the bank and get out what we need."
This brought another worry into Harry's mind. They had enough money to make it through their last year at Hogwarts and get established, but Harry still had no idea what he was going to do for a living and frankly he could not think past getting Voldemort out of the picture.
"Harry, come on lets see if we can find something. I hope it is still there."
Harry followed her out of the kitchen where they were having lunch and down a hall.
"I know my Dad had a room somewhere in this mountain where he kept all the treasures he had found."
"What? Why did you not tell me this before?"
"It never crossed my mind until what you just thought."
Moira stopped in front of a wall that looked no different from all of the other ones.
"Here I believe it is behind this wall."
"Okay, and how do you suppose we get through that wall?" Harry asked.
Moira shrugged her shoulder and looked at the wall. She was trying to remember how her father got in the one time she had seen him do it.
"He tapped the wall and it opened, Harry."
"Did he say anything when he did it?"
"Not that I can remember."
Harry walked up and tapped the wall, but nothing happened. Harry turned and looked back.
"Where exactly do you remember him tapping it?"
Moira closed her eyes and thought hard on the memory. She opened her eyes to she Harry tapping on the spot he had pulled from her memory. Slowly the wall disappeared. Harry and Moira walked into the room.
"Oh my, I had no idea," Moira said as they looked in.
Harry and Moira walked around the room in total awe. This room was not filled with gallons, but with some gold and silver in other forms and jewels, and magical things in abundance.
"Are you sure your dad wasn't a pirate. This sure looks like a pirate's treasure."
Harry laughed as Moira slugged him lovingly on the shoulder.
"Well it is nice to know I can cross that worry of my list," Harry said as he smiled. His parents had done something similar to him.
"Yeah, but what are some of these things? Not all of them appear to have a monetary value," Moira said as she walked around the small room.
"Hey look, I'd bet this is a flying carpet. I have heard Percy rave about these things in the past. And look at this, I bet it is more than just an hourglass. We should be careful with these things if we don't know what they are."
He sat the hourglass down gently remembering the small one that Hermione had used a few years back to turn take herself back in time.
"Yeah, maybe my dad left something around here that explains what all this stuff is."
They looked for a while, but could find nothing. They sat around for a while theorizing about some possibilities when Harry suggested they take a ride on the carpet. He picked it up and unrolled it. The carpet snapped to life and floated a few feet above the ground. Harry held out his hand.
"My queen, your chariot awaits."
Moira laughed and took his hand as they flew all over the mountain. It was the best they had felt since the separation of the union. When they came back to the treasure room looked around wondering if they should take anything with them. They both wanted to take the carpet, and Harry took a hand full of gold coins, certainly he could exchange them at Gringotts. Moira looked around the room and picked up the hourglass and a ball looking item along with some other things that seemed interesting, a few rings and other jewels where also added to her bag. With that they left the room and closed the door behind them.
That evening it was time to return to the Burrow. They were both going to miss this place, but they had promised themselves a week worth of fun and relaxation before school started and they were going to take it. They would face real life again when they got back to Hogwarts.
They were excited to see Ron and Hermione again and they were starting to think that their suspensions were true. Ron and Hermione's relationship appeared to be moving beyond friendship. They would just have to wait and see how that went once they arrived at Hogwarts. Hermione had joined them for their week of relaxation at the Burrow. They had a fun filled day at Diagon Alley getting all of there school supplies. Mrs. Weasley was able to find all of the ingredients they needed. She looked like she wanted to ask what it was for, but decided against it. On top of that the Goblin did not ask too many questions when they asked to exchange the coins. They were pleased when that small handful was worth enough to cover all their expenses for the year at Hogwarts. They did not have to get anything from the vault at all. Soon they were at platform 9 3/4 again on their way to their seventh and last year at Hogwarts.
