A Romeo and Juliet complex

Chapter one: the Malfoys, the Weasleys and the feud (Intro)

The Malfoys and the Weasleys have been in a feud for hundreds of generations. No one knows how it started, no one knows why it started, all they know is that it is their family honour to hate each other.

The Weasleys were good natured people; they didn't pride themselves on anything except their love for each other. They did not care about blood or wealth and they would help anyone who needed it, except for the Malfoys. The Malfoys were not half as good natured as the Weasleys. They prided themselves on money, blood and family honour. They would only help someone if it would benefit them.

There was however, as in most families, an exception in the Malfoy family, their middle son, Scorpius Malfoy. Scorpius cared not about money, blood or family honour. All he cared about was love. He believed that there was such a thing as love at first sight and that there was more to life than feuds, money and blood. His brothers thought he was weird.

Scorpius didn't understand about the feud, he didn't want to either. All he wanted was for it to end. The feud literally ruled their lives. They were not allowed to go anywhere the Weasleys went. Scorpius and his brothers were home schooled because their father did not want them anywhere near the Weasleys.

Rose Weasley didn't understand why the families were still feuding and didn't know why her family was destined to hate the Malfoys forever. She had only met them on one occasion. It was when the father had punched a Malfoy for something that she can not remember. She was only 7 at the time. That was the time in which the two families were made to promise that they would never harm one another in public again. The families agreed but of course they had found a loop hole and began to fight in secret. She was now 14. All she wanted was for the two families to settle their differences and get on with their lives.

Rose had just gotten home from Hogwarts for the holidays. On her way home she had seen Malfoy mansion and again that little question kept popping into her head. 'Why are we still in this stupid feud?' When she got home she asked her dad (Ron) about it.

"Dad? Why are we and the Malfoy family in a feud?" she asked. At the time her dad was making the dinner and he almost dropped the knife he was holding. "Oops, sorry."

"It's okay, Rosie. Actually no one knows, why or how or when the feud started. All I know is that it did and we have hated each other since. Each family member has had someone close to them die because of the Malfoys. Our hate has passed down from generation to generation. Why do you ask?" he answered with his back turned from her to hide his tears as painful memories were brought back of his dying brother or his friends. All he had watched suffer at the hands of a Malfoy.

"No reason, just curious," Rose replied. "Why don't we just makeup, stop all the suffering and hatred?"

"Because the pain they have caused us is too deep, Rosie. Old wounds don't heal easily."

Even though that didn't really answer her question Rose decided not to pursue the subject.

"Okay, I am going to get some sleep before dinner. Bye dad."

"Bye sweetie. Sleep tight-"

"-don't let the bedbugs bite, I know." Rose smiled at the old saying her and her parents have shared since she was four. It used to scare her because she used to believe that the bed bugs really would eat her. She got into her bedroom, which was pink from top to bottom and filled with posters of her favourite quidditch stars, got into her bad and fell asleep within minutes.

Scorpius had just got in from his backyard where he could see the Weasley house. It was slightly smaller than his but that didn't matter to him. Again he wondered why the families were feuding. It seemed stupid to feud after such a long time. He decided to ask his father about it.

"Dad? Why are we still feuding with the Weasleys?" Scorpius asked.

"Scorpius, how many times have I told you not to mention that name under my roof?" Draco (his father) snapped. "To answer your question, it is for family honour. Even if we have no clue about how it started or how long it has been going on, we do it to uphold our family honour. The whole family are filthy, muggle loving, mudblood marrying, blood traitors!" he snapped. "They are filth Scorpius, pure filth! Why do you ask?"

"I was just curious, that's all. I am going to go back outside to meet my friend. He has just gotten back from Hogwarts today." Scorpius ran out the door to avoid another rant about Hogwarts and how the Weasleys have contaminated it and how they were the worst years of his life. Apparently the Weasleys had made his life a living hell while he was there and the reason Scorpius and his brothers weren't allowed to go was because he wanted to protect them from that kind of hurt and torment.

Scorpius sighed and walked down to the bottom of his garden where he stood at he fence for a minute before jumping over it. He landed in the backyard of where his best friends, Dawn and Caleb Zabini, lived. He walked up the garden and round the side to where the front door was. He knocked and waited for someone to answer. After knocking for the second time Caleb answered the door.

"Hey, Scorpius. Want to come in?" he asked, standing aside to let him in.

"Sure." Scorpius walked inside where they both sat in the living room listening to the radio.
