CHAPTER 1: WHAT HAVE I DONE?

It was the same normal night at the Potter house. James was reading through a

copy of the Daily Prophet, and Lily was rocking Harry to sleep in the other

room. It was stormy outside, and very late, and James himself was about to retreat to his room for the night. He made his way into the room were Lily and Harry were, and they began talking about maybe getting in touch with Dumbledore. They both had a strange feeling in them that something was happening. 'It should be impossible,' Lily thought to herself, 'We're in hiding. No one will find us.'

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"So how are the plans coming, Wormtail? You know we are short on time and tonight
is the night."
"Very good master...The crowd of followers awaits your arrival. Shall we be on
our way then?
"Very well, tonight we make history!"
Two dark figures made their way into a large room filled with men and women
gathered around one another. The lights flashed on and everyone stood up in
unison to greet their "master". Voldemort made his way to the front with
Wormtail by his side and began to speak to the crowd of his followers.
Peter alone was silently thinking to himself as his Lord made the speech, he
knew Voldemort was too caught up in his preparations for the evening to be
reading his mind, so Peter thought silently in the corner where no one even
bothered to pay him any mind.
'Tonight is the night, and my master seems so pleased with me for once. I can't
blow it, and they're in hiding. Theres no reason for him to even cross their paths. There's not even a chance he'll make it to them, is there? No. I'm crazy, he won't make it to any of the houses. Sirius, Remus, James, Lily, and Harry are all safe, I can almost bet my life
on that. Besides they could get away. They're strong. They'll get through this and
it will all be done with. Stop worrying yourself Peter. Not tonight!' Cheers erupted from the group and Peter looked up, forgetting were he was for a moment. Then his senses came back to him and he quickly got up and followed his Lord out of the room to prepare for the night.
James and Lily sat on the couch quietly staring at the rain pouring outside. Little did they know they would never make it that far, not with what was planned to take place. They didn't know that Lord Voldemort was planning to kill all the wizards and witches who despised and rejected him, those who did not join him or have betrayed him. They knew none of this and if they had, just maybe they would have survived.
They were so content and happy as they were. Harry had just had his first birthday and things were looking up. Lily was loving her time at home with Harry. They had just
what they needed and nothing more or less, which is how they expected it to stay
like that, but they were very, very mistaken.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Screams could be heard miles away. The bright lights erupting from wands could

be seen, and also in the midst of all this you could surely hear laughter filling the night air. It had been and hour and already Voldemort and his followers were a third through their list of targets. Wormtail did no killing, but lurked sadly in the shadows, as he watched so many lives being shattered. He just prayed that his friends were not among the lot.

If he would have known that his dearest friends, James and Lily were to be killed, and that his best mate Sirius, was to be framed, all due to him, he would never have followed the Dark Lord. But how could he not, once he thought back to it, it was the only choice left. And he still remembered the night all too well. The night when he would join the Dark Lord and endanger the lives of his friends as well.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Your choice, NOW!"
"I-I-I...And what if I oppose?"
"You will die, is it that hard to figure out? So Wormtail, will you join
me or suffer the same fate as the others?" A slight smirk escaped the mouth of
the feared Voldemort as he gave Peter his choice between life or death.
Peter stood still, shocked. He couldn't join the Dark Lord's army, but he
couldn't very well die, either. After all, he had lost touch with anyone who
had cared or objected. He was alone and to live out the rest of his days.
'There's still time,' he thought. And with that he replied.
"Yes Lord, I am at your command if my life may be spared."
"Very good Wormtail. Now you didn't want to end up like them, did you? You made the
right choice and you won't live to regret it....Now."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Another scream was heard and Peter looked down. He couldn't bare it, but what else could he do? So when the Dark Lord looked his way he simply smirked and acted as if he was enjoying himself. Voldemort knew exactly what he felt though, and tried all the more to make Peter's life unbearable. He always did like watching a poor helpless man commit suicide and Peter didn't look too far away.

A look of complete horror came to Peter's face. He almost yelled in anger as he double checked the words on the letter box. The Potters.
