Cloudy

She stood on the driveway of the deserted property, a sentinel guarding it's eternal sanctuary.

'If only Dumbledore had put more protective charms on it,' were the only words that ran through her befuddled mind.

Cars rushed by on her right as a single tear slid mournfully down her cheek. She heard the whoosh of a portkey transporting a person.

"Whichever part of the Golden Trio you are, I want you to leave me alone," she spat sourly at the person behind her, without turning around.

A firm hand descended gently upon her trembling shoulder. "It's not worth coming her, you'll just hurt yourself more," the voice spoke softly, and it was one that was quite familiar, but she still did not want him here.

He was, of course, referring to the wasted land in front of her. Two more tears raced each other down her cheeks as she realized that he was right. They landed in the grass less ground in front of her shoes.

The once beautiful house was now nothing more than an empty shell, just structure clung to by soggy, burnt-through wood. All of the windows, or what was left of them, had giant scorch marks around them, as if a blazing inferno had blown up inside. Which was what probably happened. She circled the 'house' and gasped at what she saw. The once towering maple that she had grown up with was now only a charred stump and ashes.

Letting out a strangled cry of anguish, she ran up to the charred remains of the tree and fell to her knees in the ash. 'Not like this, not like this.'

She felt his footsteps more than she heard them, coming up from behind her, but she didn't bother to look up. His hands grabbed hold of her shoulders and gently willed her up. She felt all of the power drain from her body and allowed herself to be pulled to her feet. She slowly turned around to face him, and looked him in the eyes, feeling that nothing else could help her. His eyes seemed to give her strength and take it at the same time, leaving her feeling exhausted, but she didn't care about being 'strong' anymore. She had had enough of the emotionless face she had worn in the war, sick of the I-don't-care-how-hard-my-situation-is act, and she was tired of wearing her tough-as-nails mask. But that didn't matter anymore, because this had cut right through tough-as-nails and hit her cries-at-everything face.

The tears that she had felt since seeing the remains of the tree finally burst through their boundaries.

She suddenly felt herself being hugged, the tears were flowing freely now, and listening to the comfort of his words.

"They did this just to make you feel helpless," he told her with only a hint of a get-yourself-together tone in his voice. He held her out at arms length and, shaking her by the shoulders, continued, "You can't give in to their crude punishments, can you?" All that she could do was nod numbly.

Noticing that she needed to be back in the burrow, he took pity on her. "Come on, let's go finish the stupid row with the boy-who-lived-to-annoy-me that made you come here in the first place." The girl smiled halfheartedly as he took her hand and portkeyed her back to the burrow.

AN:

OK, just to set this strait, this was originally meant to be an excerpt of the story that I have coming up but there might not be everything from this in the story, so it can also be looked at as a one-shot. The girl, as most of you will have figured out by now, is my OC. She's sorta a Mary Sue to me. But I have a big story plot for her so I might link you to it. I still don't know if I would call her a Mary Sue though, because she has her own story without pushing the others out of the spotlight. Yes, I do know who the guy is, but I will give you a few that... might be him.

1. Harry Potter

2. Ron Weasley

3. Fred/George Weasley

4. Draco Malfoy

5. Victor Krum

Enough of my rambling, I'm sure you don't want to read this anyway so I'll just let you get on with your lives.
