Lily Potter stepped onto the train, struggling to drag her luggage behind her, and her owl in her hand. She had never been with many other children at once before, and she quite honestly didn't enjoy it. The constant yelling and shouting were always an annoyance, and she would much rather just read a good book.
The brown suitcase that had never been used bumped into every compartment door as it past it, shortly followed by a "Sorry!" from Lily's petite little voice. She couldn't seem to find one that wasn't packed, and she continued onto the next section, hoping to find an empty one.
She looked inside the window of one to find her brothers Albus and James joking with her cousins, Rose and Hugo Weasley.
"Ugg..." she thought as she continued down the narrow hall. It's not that she didn't want to be with them, she just wanted to do her own thing. She was tired of being known as "Harry Potter's Daughter" and the last thing she needed was to be known as "James and Albus's brother". She wanted to be known as Lily! Was that so much to ask?
The compartments seemed to be holding the same people as she continued again into the next section of the train. She looked in the compartment to the left to see a group of six children, but the compartment on the right was the one that caught her eye.

Scorpius Malfoy was sitting there with his cheek flattened to the glass, watching the trees pass. He was on the Hogwarts Express, waiting to go back to the school for his third year of classes. He had no idea what problems and people he would encounter in the next school year, but he didn't exactly care.
In his last year of school, his first ever girlfriend, Amanda Wood, was forced to break up with him by her father's orders. What was that all about? It had haunted him all summer, and he wanted answers. When he'd asked his father, he'd simply reply, "Her father's an old git. He probably doesn't even remember why he hates me." Why did so many people fear him? He would do nothing to harm someone, and they'd simply stray away from him. He'd finally met someone he thought loved him, and then it was over because of something that must've happened a long time ago.
The thirteen-year-old's thoughts were cut short by the slamming of the compartment door. He jerked his head to see the shining red hair, the blue eyes, and the flawless skin facing him. Awestruck, he managed to do absolutely nothing.
"Hello. I'm Lily," the girl spoke holding out a hand after placing the owl cage that was formerly in her hand on the ground.
"H-Hi. I'm Scorpius," he replied, rubbing his red cheek which had just been pressed against the window.
"Scorpius? That name sounds oddly familiar. It's a rather cool name by the way. I like it!" she said happily sitting on the seat across from him.
"Oh... Uh... Thanks," he replied wishing he could think of more to say. Who is this girl? How could I not have noticed her? he thought frantically.
"What house are you in?" he asked.
"I'm brand new. I've not even been sorted yet," she spoke while she reached into her suitcase pulling out a copy of "Hogwarts, A History" and opening it to where her bookmark sat.
Scorpius was appalled by this. She's a first year? And she's that pretty? He was mainly confused at why he was so attracted to her. She even smelt like a strange blend of flowers. Wanting to know more about her, he made an attempt to converse, which resulted in him stuttering about the latest quidditch match between Puddlemere United and the Montrose Magpies.
"I like quidditch too," she replied not even looking up from her book. Her lips were wrapped around a strand of her hair, and she seemed to not show one bit of interest towards anything but the book. When she let it back out of her mouth, it was no longer the beautiful red it was earlier.
"What the...?" Scorpius said under his breath as he watched the bit of her hair that was in her mouth change, turning purple, blue, green, and then back to the normal red.
"You... Your hair!" he spat out after watching its performance.
"Oh it always does that when it gets wet," she said chuckling, finally taking her eyes off the book. "You should've seen my parents reaction when they first saw. My mum screamed and insisted that I had to go to St. Mungo's," she continued.
"This girl is so mysterious... but there's something about her. Something about her that people fear. Just like me...," Scorpius thought to himself utterly confused.
Before he could continue to think any more, the distinct sound of the frail old woman's voice echoed around the compartment.
"Here's the trolley! Get your candy! Here comes the trolley!"
Lily reached into the pocket of her jeans and pulled out two Galleons. "What could she possibly think costs that much?" he thought. Feeling his competitive side come upon him, he reached into his own pocket and pulled out three Galleons. The girl seemed not affected by this move whatsoever, and kindly asked the woman in the doorway for some of "Drooble's Best Blowing Gum".
The old lady seemed frightened when she looked to see the other boy in the compartment with the girl. She frantically pushed the cart away.
"I wonder what that was about," Lily said retreating to her seat.
"Yeah... I wonder..." Scorpius thought sarcastically.
Scorpius couldn't let the tension continue like this. Or at least he felt tension. She seemed very content. "How could she be so at ease? Does she not know who I am?" he wondered. Before he had to struggle to make more small talk, there was an announcement over the train.
"Change into your robes, and get ready to get off the train!" it boomed.
The two of them stood up at once and Lily immediately turned away and blushed. As she did so, her shoulder-length blonde hair brushed up against his nose, and the sensation that swept his body was like no other Scorpius had felt before. The smell was of some sort of exotic blossom, and it made his nose tingle.
Lily giggled, slightly blushing, as she pushed her hair behind her ear.
At this moment Scorpius realized that he just smelled her, and he opened his eyes to see her face staring at him strangely. Trying to break the awkward moment, he burst out, "I'll go out and you can... Uh... change. Then we'll switch?"
"Alright," said Lily happily.
Scopius left the compartment to be rammed into by no other than James Potter. They had never really been friends, but they weren't by any means enemies.
"H-Hey... Have you seen my sister around anywhere?" he asked.
"Nope," Scorpius replied sternly.
"Well... If you do tell her I'm looking for her," James said sourly as he walked back towards the other side of the train.
"Why did I just do that?" he thought to himself. It wasn't like they had a grudge against each other. And he certainly didn't want one. "Now when he finds out we're friends he'll try to kill me," he continued to think. He just answered without any thought. It was as though he himself thought he was telling the truth.
Unlike his father Draco, Scorpius was rather sensitive, but still cruel at times. He had a muscular build for his age, and could fight someone like James, who wasn't puny himelf.
At this point, Lily emerged from the compartment, with her hair tied up behind her head dangling down to the base of her neck. Her thin eyebrows curved upward as she saw Scorpius staring at her again with his mouth half open.
"What? Haven't you ever seen a girl before?" she asked rolling her eyes before gesturing towards the door for him to go change.
"Yes!" Scorpius snapped back, feeling rather embarrassed by his reaction.
"No need to get all worked up about it," she replied smirking, turning away. She knew she had put it in just the right way to get on his nerves. She liked manipulating people in such ways. It was a skill that she possessed just like her mother could.
Lily leaned against the door to another compartment and waited for her newly found friend to emerge. She wasn't quite sure how she felt about him. She'd never really experienced the thrill of being treated in such ways by someone, and it was all very new to her. But surprisingly for her age, she liked it.
But she still didn't like it as much as reading. That was a trait that her father said was taught to her by her Aunt Hermione. They two of them would both curl up by the fire and read copies of the same book, seeing who would finish the chapter faster. Then afterward, they'd discuss what happened and if they liked it or not. Lily and her aunt were very close, but not as close as she was to her mother.
Ginevra loved gossiping with her daughter nearly as much as she loved Harry. The two of them would talk about everything from family matters, to their favorite (and most appealing) Quidditch players.
Scorpius emerged from the compartment in his own robes, proudly revealing the Slytherin emblem on his right pectoral.
This was in fact a surprise to Lily. Although the extreme hatred between Gryffindor and Slytherin no longer existed, there was still a rivalry, and Lily knew of the old relationship between the two. She was however mostly surprised by the fact that Scorpius was a Slytherin. He seemed to be a caring person, although she could already tell he had a competitive side. All around, he seemed like he was genuine. No Gryffindor, but not a Slytherin...
"Something wrong?" Scorpius asked, seeing her expression.
"No, no... Nothings wrong," she said, trying to keep an open mind.
The two of them now walked down the aisle as far as they could before they met the gathering crowd. Moving to be what seemed like a foot every minute, the two of them remained quiet as they passed through the sections of the train. Finally near the end, Lily stepped off the train letting out a sigh of relief. It was now dark out, and as her eyes dilated she began to see the scenery around her.
Walking out several feet, she gazed at a tall lamppost, with arrows pointing out of it in every direction. Starting at the bottom, she read them off one at a time, becoming aware that she would be in the boats, and Scorpius would be walking there through a trail in the woods.
"That's stupid," she said, referring to the fact that every year had a different path.
"Ye think that's stupid now?" questioned a voice that was familiar to Lily.
"Hagrid!" she squealed, spinning around and hugging the massive man. He would meet them every year at her grandparents on Christmas. With his hair now grayed, he resembled who muggles call, "Santa".
"'Ello Lily," the humble half-giant spoke happily. "Who's your friend?" he asked pointing his large finger towards a blonde third year.
"Scorpius," he said, shaking Hagrid's hand.
Hagrid had only been told once of Scorpius many years ago, and his mind had lost the information completely.
"Well good day to ye, Scorpius," Hagrid replied. "I'm gonna go and take Lily 'ere, so have a safe adventure," he spoke, taking Lily hand in his as they walked towards the boats, floating on the edge of the lake.
