- I'm not an expert on weddings. So if, like, traditionally the bride says her vows first or something, I'm sorry.
James grinned at Sirius, his best man. He could not believe he was actually standing at the alter about to say his vows to Lily. Lily, the girl he loved for about as long as he could remember. James took a deep breath. 'Here goes nothing,' he thought to himself.
"Lily," James began as he looked into her brilliant green eyes. "I've loved you for so long. It drove me crazy. Back then, however, the only thing I think I did was drive you crazy. Remember when we were at Hogwarts and I was always trying to impress you by tormenting Snape?" Lily smiled. "I was so clueless. I always thought if I just asked you out over and over you would finally say 'yes, James, yes!' I grew more mature as we entered our seventh year, though. I remember you asking me why it had been two weeks and I hadn't said anything to you, let alone ask you out. I remember saying that I had been doing some thinking and I decided to leave you alone because I'd rather you forget I exist than hate me for existing." James smiled at Lily. "And you smiled. For the first time I remember you smiled at me. There it began. Now, Lil, I don't think there's anyone or anything I love more than I love you. So now I'm standing here about to spend the rest of my life with you. I couldn't ask for anything more.
"I can't wait to start a family with you. To live happily ever after with you. To start our journey in life as married couple. This is probably the best day of my life."
'I did it!' James thought to himself. James looked down at his soon-to-be-wife. She looked up at him with her eyes filled with tears.
"James!" Lily said, laughing. "If someone had told me a few years ago that I would be up here now about to marry James Potter, I would have told them to lay off the Firewhisky." People chuckled appreciatively. "I had no idea that I would fall for you. But, when you told me you would rather me forget you exist than hate you for existing, I wouldn't have been surprised if I had melted. From then on I couldn't get you out of my mind. I soon realized I loved you, like you loved me for so long. Now, I would love nothing more than to spend the rest of my life with you as well. Or start a family, or live happily ever after. I can't even begin to imagine what life would be like without you. I love you, James Potter, and I can't wait to become Lily Potter."
James was lost for words.
At that moment, everything was perfect for Lily and James. They had no idea that a horrible powerful sorcerer would kill both of them, and try to kill their first-born son. They had no idea. As James and Lily shared their first kiss as a married couple, they had no idea what fate had in store for them.
