While You Were Sleeping: Chapter 1: Far From Home

"Hurry, Jesse!" a tall boy shouted, flinging a wave of blond hair out of his eyes. "We are going to be late for -" his words were cut short when a girl walked into the dormitory. She smiled jokingly at a tall, part-Korean boy as he frantically pulled up his pants.

"Austin!" he whined. "This is the boys' dormitory!" he hissed. "Why are you in here?" The girl flipped her black streaked blood red hair over her shoulder.

"Well, I'm here to make sure you two hurry up!" she laughed, amusement filling her brown eyes as she watched Jesse, the part-Korean boy, try to make his black hair stay down.

"Jesse, who cares about your hair?" the blond boy questioned. Jesse turned to him.

"I do, Andrew!" he growled. "You guys are so strange!" He turned back to the mirror. Austin, the girl, elbowed Andrew and began to imitate Jesse's failing attempts to fix his hair.

"I must look perfect for Parvati!" she joked, copying Jesse's deep voice with her high one. Andrew laughed at her ever so stupid-looking impersonations. "If my hair doesn't stay down, what will she think? I might as well miss school because of it!" Jesse spun around and glared at her.

"Fine!" he snapped. "Since you are always right, you do it!" Austin shrugged and whipped out her wand. She muttered something and his hand laid down on his head - perfectly. He turned around and looked at his reflection in the mirror.

"How did you do that?" he asked her as his blue eyes stared back at him through his mirror image.

"It's call magic, pretty boy," she told him, running for the door with Andrew, her bag banging against her leg. "Now, come on!" She flung open the door and ran out with Andrew.

"WAIT FOR ME!" he shouted out. He picked up his bag off his bed and ran down the stairs after him.

"There he is," Andrew laughed. He and Austin were sitting in the great hall at the Ravenclaw table, eating their breakfast.

"Took you long enough!" Austin smiled at Jesse as he sat down across from her and Andrew. "What else where you doing?"

"I had to get my bag, Sherlock!" Jesse said, holding up his bag for her to see. Austin's eyebrows rose.

"Of course," she sighed. "Anyways..." She lifted her glass of orange juice and began to drink deeply from in.

"Did you here about that dance-thing coming?" Andrew asked. Austin choked on her drink and set the glass down, still coughing. Andrew patted her back softly.

"C-co-come a-a-g-gain?" she coughed.

"The dance," Andrew repeated. "Dumbledore's idea..." Austin wiped her mouth.

"What about Quidditch?" she asked. She looked over at Jesse. "We might have a practice that night!" Andrew shook his head.

"No Quidditch practices allowed that night," he told her. Damn it... Austin thought to herself.

"When is it?" she asked. Andrew looked at her suspiciously. It was like she wasn't looking forward to it.

"The day before Christmas break...Why?" he asked. Austin shook her head.

"Oh...nothing, nope... Nothing at all..."
