Chapter 4
A Godparent for James
Hermione made perfect timing and stepped into the room. "I guess we'll just have to wait for their reply because I just remembered that this was the weekend they went to South Africa. I told Hedwig to slip the note into the door slot though." Hermione walked in and lay down in her bed once more. "So what have you talked about while I was gone?"
"Why what else, Little James," said Sirius smiling and putting an arm around Harry who was still holding a tired James.
"Why did you call him Little James instead of just James, Sirius?" Hermione asked
"Oh, Sirius and I find it less confusing because you, James Potter the Marauder is who keeps coming into our minds. So that's what we call this little guy," said Remus pointing to James. "Little James and Prongs is thought of Big James."
"That's a very good idea Remus, Sirius", Hermione said brightly.
"Oh," said Harry changing the subject, "also Remus brought up a very good point before you walked in.," Harry stated.
"What point was that?"
"James will need a Godparent or Godparents, Hermione."
"Oh, my gosh, I can't believe it! Harry, we really haven't even thought of that you know, and all those books I've read about babies the past 9 months!" exclaimed Hermione.
Harry looked at Remus, giving him an I-need-to-talk-to-Hermione-alone look.
"Sirius, I think I'm going to go for a walk. Would you like to join me?" Remus announced trying to wink or give Sirius a signal or some sort.
"Nah, not really," said Sirius flatly, clearly not noticing Remus' wink.
"Oh, but I was going to stop by the cafeteria and..."
"Oh, well I should really get some exercise," and with that, Sirius was gone.
Hermione giggled then looked at Harry's serious face and stopped.
"Harry are you okay?"
"Yes, but a Godparent for James is not just a name you pull out of a hat. Who on earth are we going to pick?"
"What about Ron and Lavender, Harry, we've known them for 14 years."
"Yeah, but they're starting a family of their own, and Lord knows they'll have their hands full, being Weasleys. I couldn't ask them to take James too."
"That's a good point there Harry, but if not Ron, who else is closer to us?"
"Sirius and Remus are, but Sirius was already my Godfather, and I never felt like Remus took a fatherly note to kids. He was always a person of knowledge rather that unconditional love."
"Harry so far this is getting nowhere fast. How about we don't name Godparents, but something like them?"
"Just how are we going to have something like Godparents?" Harry said feeling rather frustrated now.
"Well, is anything were to happen to us, James can just be taken care of by one of our family members or friends. That way whoever is up to it can take care of him, instead of feeling obligated to. Also this prevents any arguments started over whom we picked as James' Godparents."
"That sound great! Wait, your not related to anyone with the last name Dursley do you?"
"Oh, Harry, I could never do that to James!"
"I know, sometimes I forget that I married the smartest witch in all of Britain since Rowena Ravenclaw herself."
"Harry, you flatter me," said Hermione trying to fake a modest tone.
"Not nearly as much as I will after we get home," Harry said and leaned over to kiss Hermione , trying to squish James in the process, who was still in his arms.
Then Hermione broke away, but just long enough to say, "Harry why don't you put James in his basinet before we crush him."
"Oh, alright."
Then they went back to their snogging as James drifted into a silent slumber. In about five minutes, startling Hermione and Harry out of their wit, the door opened. In the doorway stood Ron and a very pregnant Lavender Weasley.
"Well, I knew they delivered babies here, but I never heard of making them in a hospital before," said Ron laughing as Harry and Hermione blushed, with Lavender chiming in as well.
After Harry turned a normal peach color replied, "It's a really great 2 for 1 sale though, don't you think?" Harry than began laughing himself, after Hermione elbowed him in the stomach.
