Lay back, it's all been done before
And if you could only let it be you would see...
I like you the way you are
"Ginny? Ginny, come on, wake up! Come with us to Hogsmeade," Hermione shouted through the fifth year girls' dorm door. Ginny groaned and pulled off the covers, stretching slightly.
"Go on and open the door..." she muttered thickly, and the big wood door creaked open. Hermione stuck her head in, looking slightly nervous. It was as if she was afraid she'd suffer Ginny's wrath for waking her up. After a moment she slipped in and shut the door quietly. She walked over and sat down at the end of Ginny's bed, peering at her.
"You all right?" Hermione asked quietly. Ginny pushed her hair out of her eyes, and smiled slightly at Hermione. Hermione grinned back, giving her a compassionate look.
"He didn't want to hurt you." Hermione looked knowingly at her. Ginny nodded.
"I know." she whispered, biting her lip to stop it from trembling. Hermione gave her a quick hug and stood up.
"How do I look?" she asked, spinning around. She was wearing jeans and a bright red turtle neck, her hair curling around her face and falling down her back. Ginny, grateful for the change of subject, grinned.
"Great. How long did it take you to do your hair?" she asked. Hermione chuckled.
"Not as long as you'd think. C'mon, girl, get up! It's a great day and you need to get out. You've been moping for too long," Hermione grabbed Ginny's hands and pulled her off the four poster, then she strode across the room and pulled open Ginny's closet. She flicked through her clothes, pulling out a pair of black velvet pants and a low cut black shirt. She tossed them over to Ginny, who blinked at them. Hermione sighed, slightly exasperated.
"Put them on; if you look great, maybe you'll meet a new guy." Hermione winked at her, and Ginny started laughing. It was so weird to see Hermione acting like this. Ginny knew that Hermione was putting on the act to try and cheer her up. She decided not to let the other girls efforts be in vain.
"Okay, okay, okay! I'll go!" Ginny through her arms up in defeat. Hermione's face broke into a big smile.
"I'll meet you in the common room in a bit," she turned and walked out of the room, securely shutting the door.
Ginny sighed and pulled off her nightshirt and searched through her drawers and pulled out a bra. As she was snapping it, she smiled a bit.
"Ginny...I was wondering...would you go to the ball with me?" Harry asked, his face turning slightly pink. Ginny looked at him for a moment, surprised.
"Sure..." she stammered, and Harry's face broke into a huge smile, and he hugged her, spinning her around.
"I'd like you to know...that I really like you," He whispered in her ear. From that moment she knew she was part of something special.
Ginny narrowed her eyes and pulled on the shirt. It was so unfair; he'd made her feel so special. Like, she, Ginny Weasley, was worth something. Her chest suddenly burned with anger, the blood pumped faster. Why had he dumped her? Was she less than some other girl to only deserve his attention for three weeks, when she'd loved him for years? She'd take Hermione's advice, she'd find herself someone else. It wasn't really revenge towards Harry; she just wanted someone else to make her feel like she actually existed as a dateable female.
Ginny pulled out her makeup and grinned happily. She didn't need Harry anymore.
"Oh, honestly. You can be so stupid sometimes!" she commented as Seamus snapped Harry's fake wand. Harry let out a mock cry of rage and tackled Seamus. Dean immediately came to the rescue of his friend, knocking Harry to the ground. Of course, after this display of bravery by Dean, Ron had to live up to his title as Harry's best friend. He stood up and knocked Dean over the back of the nearest couch. Dean let out a curse and crashed into one of the tables, which collapsed under his weight.
Ron was doubled over in laughter, until his feet were yanked out from under him by Seamus.
The scuffle continued on, neither pair of best friends winning nor loosing. Hermione had given up on trying to stop them and was immersed in a school book. Avrin had intelligently pulled on his winter cloak and headed towards Hogsmeade.
The laughter and tackling suddenly halted and the guys were all looking at the fifth year staircase. Hermione stopped reading at the stop of the noise and looked to see why it had stopped.
Then she saw Ginny skipping down the staircase, and she gave the younger girl a thumbs up.
Ginny's hair contrasted dramatically with the black outfit, and she was wearing silvery make-up. It obviously surprised the guys to see Ginny--little Ginny--look so good.
"What are you doing?" She asked, giving them a weird look. She glanced down and saw that Harry's glasses were lying at her feet. She had a brief impulse to "accidentally" step on them, but she didn't. She leaned down and picked them up, then strode over and placed them in Harry's hand, closing his hand around them.
"I think you need those," she commented to him, then grabbed her dark green winter cloak from a stand in the corner.
"You ready to go Hermione?" she asked. Hermione nodded, setting her book down. Glancing at the pile of rubble and guys on the floor disapprovingly, she pulled out her wand.
"Repairo." she hissed to the broken table, which immediately righted itself.
"Are you coming?" she motioned towards the portrait hole as Ginny was climbing out of it. There was a scramble to get cloaks and the guys quickly followed them out the door.
"Draco Malfoy, are you even listening to me?" Blaise Zabini spat, narrowing her blue eyes and flipping her auburn hair over her shoulder. Draco gave her an appraising look.
"Not really, why?" He replied calmly, not at all afraid of the reaction he'd get. He was used to Blaise's fits.
"Because you're my boyfriend, and boyfriends listen!" She glared, placing her hands on her hips. For lack of a better example, Draco smirked and said,
"Weasley doesn't listen when Granger starts bitching." The comment had the desired effect. Blaise's anger flared up, more intense than before. Draco could tell she was close to slapping him.
"How dare you compare me to a Mudblood! I am doing you a favor by going out with you, Draco! There isn't anyone else who looks as good as me!" Blaise shrieked. Crabbe and Goyle nervously backed up. They'd stand next to Draco through almost everything, but not the fury of his girlfriend. The bell to the shop rang and Draco glanced at it to see who it was.
Potter. Just his luck. But then, at the end of the group of Gryffindors, there was a small red head. Draco's eyes widened slightly, and another smirk crossed his features.
"I wouldn't say that." he said to Blaise. Blaise turned her head to look at the front of the store, where her eyes narrowed at the sight of the other red-head.
"That's it, we're through." She hissed at him. Draco shrugged.
"All right," he answered. They'd been "through" several times before; it didn't really hurt Draco either way. His eyes narrowed slightly as Blaise stomped off...towards the group of Gryffindors.
"Damn it, Blaise!" Draco exclaimed under his breath and moved up to the front of the shop to see just exactly what Blaise was going to do to the poor Gryffindor girl.
Ginny was looking through the stands of new candy; Honeydukes would always keep their newest creations and orders near the front.
"Sugar cards?" she asked incrediously, looking at Seamus, who shrugged. He leaned over and picked up a set, and read off the back,
"Sugar Cards...strips of pure sugar, differently flavored! Keep them in your bag and eat them during class, they look just like muggle index cards!" Seamus snorted.
"I suppose they're a sort of companion to sugar quills?" Ginny commented a minute later.
"I dunno; I'd think someone gone mad if I saw them eating them. It makes you look like you're eating paper, which is disguisting." He tossed the packet back into it's proper place. Ginny shook her head and turned around, only to nearly walk straight into an older Slytherin girl, Blaise Zabini.
Ginny took a step backwards.
"Well, well, what do we have here? A Weasley trying to look pretty? That's amusing," Blaise said smoothly. Ginny gave the girl a weird look.
"What do you want?" She demanded. Blaise took a step forward.
"A favor. Quit trying to be something you're not. You're the filth of the Wizarding World, associating with mudbloods. So take your want-to-be pure-blood self and prance back up to the castle." Blaise told her nastily, surveying Ginny with jealousy.
Ginny suddenly knew what was going on. She'd attracted the attention of someone who Blaise didn't want her too. Ginny gave Blaise a sarcastic smile and turned back to Seamus.
"Are you walking away from me? I'm not finished!" Blaise shouted, and the whole of Honeydukes went quiet at the venom in her voice. Ginny slowly turned back around, her brown eyes simmering slightly with annoyance. She glared at Blaise, and shoved right past her, continuing to look at the new sweets.
Blaise's eyes widened. She wasn't used to someone not cowering in fear before her. She stomped over to Ginny, grabbing her robe and spinning her around.
Ginny kept ignoring her, and turned to talk to Seamus.
"Do you smell that?" she said suddenly. Seamus now looked increadibly confused.
"What?" he asked, giving the girl a confused look. Ginny turned to face Blaise.
"That smell..it smells like a tart," Ginny spat the last word at Blaise, who recoiled in surprise and anger. Ginny grinned truimphantly and turned to walk away.
"Look out!" Hermione suddenly shouted. Ginny spun around to see that Blaise had her wand out and was muttering a spell.
Ginny's hand shot for her wand, but she knew it wouldn't be fast enough.
"Impedimedia!" A voice shattered the tensed silence. Blaise froze. Ginny looked around to see who had shouted the spell, and saw Draco Malfoy pushing his way through the crowd.
"Sorry about that." he muttered in Ginny's ear, then proceeded to go over to Blaise.
"Blaise, I hope you know that you're a real bitch," Draco proclaimed to his ex. "I'm going to take you outside so you can cool off." With that, Draco picked the girl up, taking the spell off her.
Blaise began to curse and kick and slap Draco, but he was not deterred. He opened the door to Honeydukes and dropped her in a bank of snow. Then he walked back inside, straightening his cloak.
His plans were to lurk in the back of Honeydukes for a while; he hadn't really been looking for that much attention. He pulled a paperback book out of the pocket of his pants. It was old, torn up and folded, but he settled down in a corner and began to read.
She violently jerked and slammed backwards into the door, a shriek escaping her lips. Instantly, a warm, large hand covered her mouth.
"Honestly, Miss Leigh, you are begging to be caught. As if your backpack wasn't noisy enough, your shrieking surely didn't help." Nara was looking into the amused face of the other teacher that had chaperoned the trip...
"Blood As Thin As Tears?" came a voice, and Draco looked up.
Ginny was leaning against a shelf of candy, reading the title off his book.
"I didn't know you read muggle stories," she commented, and Draco shrugged, slipping the book back into one of the big pockets in his baggy pants.
"I didn't know you knew how to insult," he replied, standing up and brushing off his pants. After a moment, he looked back at her with dark grey eyes. "What do you want?" he asked. Ginny shrugged and pushed herself off the shelf so she was standing upright.
"To thank you. I would be a pile of mush about now if you hadn't froze Blaise." Draco grinned faintly.
"A pile of mush?" he inquired. Ginny grinned at the look on his face.
"A pile of mush. She was using a mix of different charms. I'm sure you know what that's like," she said, referring to the end of fourth year. Draco's expression darkened considerably.
"You're going out with Potter, aren't you?" he demanded. Ginny looked surprised that he knew anything about Harry's love life. Her voice left her for a moment at the memory of softly-spoken words of affection.
"No." she said firmly a moment later. Draco's expression lightened considerably.
"Good, because you're to good for him," He commented before he could stop himself. Ginny's eyebrows raised.
"Pardon?"
"Would you come get a butterbeer with me?" he suddenly asked her. Cover the earlier stupid comment with a stupid suggestion, Draco. Simply brilliant. He scolded himself. A small smile crossed Ginny's face. Well, she was awfully pretty. Getting to know her couldn't hurt, Draco thought to himself. So he put on his most charming smile and offered her his hand.
"Sure." Ginny answered.
Draco smirked at her, and let go of her hand. Then the two of them went out the back way of Honeydukes and blended into the raging snow as they headed towards The Three Broomsticks.
