Chapter 8

The next month dragged on for Severus. Every time he saw Lily in the corridor he wanted to run up and kiss her, but she was always with Potter, Lupin, or Black. Don't they ever leave her side? he wondered.

"Well, it's all your fault that you can't," a nasty voice in the back of his head said. "You didn't want the other Slytherins to torment you about dating a mudblood Gryffindor!"

Don't call her that! he yelled at himself. Lucius then interrupted his thoughts.

"Severus, what are you doing standing in the middle of the corridor?"

"What? Oh nothing."

"What's wrong with you? You've been acting strange ever since we got to school. Come with me I've got a new book my father sent me that I want you to read."

Severus followed Lucius into the library. They sat down at a table in the back, far from Madam Pince, the librarian. Lucius pulled an old book from the pocket of his robe.

"Here it is. It's full of the most complicated potions in the world. I'm sure that you'll have no problem brewing this one," Lucius said pointing to a potion labeled The Pure Potion. The description underneath it read, "Rids the drinker of all Muggle blood in their body."

"Why do you need this made? You're a pure blood,"

"My father has a friend that needs this potion. Now don't ask anymore questions. He needs it in two weeks so you better get going on it."

Severus just nodded, and that seemed to satisfy Lucius as an agreement to brew the potion and leave. Why did I agree to do this? A thought crossed his mind as he read the instructions. Lily is a mudblood! What if she found out I was doing this? That would be bad. He turned back to the book.

Not a minute later he felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned around to find Lily standing over him.

"Hey, darling! What are you reading?"

"Oh, nothing," he said quickly stashing the book under the table. "What are you doing? You know we're not supposed to be seen together."

"I'm tired of hiding our relationship, if you can even call it that. Now let me see what you're reading."

She pulled the book out of his hands and saw the directions for The Pure Potion. A shriek escaped her mouth. She threw the book back at him.

"Severus! Am I not good enough for you how I am? You think you have to brew a potion to make me "perfect"? James was right about you. You're nothing but a good for nothing Slytherin. It's over between us!" With that, she ran out of the library.

"Lily, wait! I can explain! It's not what you think!" Severus yelled, but she was already out the door.

Thanks, Lucius! Look what you've done. What did she mean by "James was right"? Had Potter been telling her things about him? Had things he said made her look for an excuse to break up with him? I'm going to get back at Potter if it's the last thing I do.
