Seeing the Same Moon

She stares out at the moon and she knows that somewhere, somehow, he is seeing the same thing. The thought disgusts her a bit- she hates him with a passion. and yet- there is something else, alongside the hate, running next to the hate. Some other sort of passion, a forbidden one, one that haunts her. She banishes that thought, and all that is left is the hatred. She wonders, though, what life would be like without the hatred, without the fear, and without the passion. What life would be like without him. not life with him as something other than a hated enemy, that would be unthinkable. Just life if she never knew him, never met him, if he didn't exist...

In the dungeons there is no light, no moon. Because of that he journeys each night, journeys up to where he can see the moon. The moon usually comforts him but now it just makes him think of her, think that somewhere, somehow, she is seeing the same thing, the same moon. He thinks of her, then she is almost immediately banished from his mind, like so many thoughts already banished before her. But for a fleeting second, before the thought of her is banished, he wonders what his life, his world would be like without her. He hates her, just as mush as she hates him, probably more. Hating her is in his blood and has been for generations. Well, he amends, not hating her, but her kind. She is different from him, inferior, and so he hates her. And yet, he still wonders. Wonders what life without her would be like. Without her to mock him and beat him in classes. Without her to taunt incessantly. He hates her, and yet she seems to be the only constant in his life. Her and the moon. Some will come, some will go, especially with the ongoing war, but he feels as if she will always be there, always mocking him, always beating him, always someone to taunt. And as he tries to imagine life without her, he finds he just can't. and that's when he realizes, there is something more than passionate hate between them, something deeper but no less passionate. Something hidden...
