Sequel to 'The Middle of Nowhere'. 4 days post DoM. Tonks returns to London and life, only beginning to realise the impact of her most recent decision.

It's been One Week since events at the Department of Mysteries and Tonks reflects on how nothing will ever be the same again.

For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Tonks is finding this out as she deals not only with the death of her cousin but the impact of a very poor decision.

The senseless deaths of three members of Law Enforcement takes it's toll on Tonks.

Still reeling from her break up with Jon, Tonks bumps into an old friend at Oz's funeral, and does something she'll probably regret in the morning.

Charlie's appearance at the new Order headquarters and a parting gift from Sirius send Tonks looking for someone or something to numb the pain.

Recovering from a very close call Tonks must deal with fall-out; how her actions have affected those around her. Charlie and Bill play the blame game and Remus ... Remus brings soup.

On a lighter note: Tonks takes Remus out to a Muggle club for the evening, determined to prove to him that he really is 'dead sexy before the moon.'

Giants in the West Country and a run in with Jon make for one tired Auror. But sleep is the one thing she just can't do. How will Tonks cope when the person she has relied on most is suddenly unavailable?

Caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, the night of the full moon. Tonks begins to see a dear friend in a new light.

"You see, Dora. There’s nothing in the night, that isn’t there in the day.” That's what he used to tell me. That’s what all parents are supposed to tell their children, isn’t it? It’s not until you grow up that you realise, that’s just not true.

While on overnight assignment for the Order, Tonks and Charlie manage to work a few things out.

‘We talked about a lot of things,’ I continue, ‘Our friendship, the weather, flying, our assignment, rock cakes, this bloke I rather fancy ...’ I turn my head to gaze out the window and catch his smiling reflection in the pane above me. ‘There’s a bloke you fancy?’ Remus asks in mock innocence.

I can hear laughter from various open doorways and windows as I walk. Warm light floods into the street, dancing in the fine drizzle. It’s Friday night; friends and family are together. As I look around at the lights in my neighbour’s windows, I can’t help but wonder how long peace will last in our little corner of the world. How long it will be before it starts to happen here. Before they shed tears for their loved ones, before whole families disappear in the night. I’m not too young to remember ...

He’s standing over me now and, after studying his boots for a moment, I look up into the callous face of a hooded Death Eater. He is older, with grey-brown hair and thick brows. I know him from somewhere and, from the look on his face, he knows me. ‘Well, well, what do we have here?’ he asks in an amused sort of voice. ‘If it isn’t the Ministry’s littlest Auror. And without her wand. Pity.’

He rewraps his cloak carefully around her wets his sleeve in the water and washes the blood from her face. Tears down his cheeks as he kisses he forehead, her eyes, her lips ... His shoulders shake, his head falls to her chest, he cannot contain his grief.
