- I know I did it again...another Bruce Springsteen song. I love the Boss, and I was writing this and the song just fit.
What was it about Monica Ophelia Black that Remus loved?
Was it her smile? Her jet black hair? Her fair skin?
Her accent when she spoke her family's native Italian? Her laugh as her twin-brother, Sirius, told a dirty joke?
Or was it how she made him feel?
Like he was normal, he was no disease. She knew about it, she didn't hide that. But for some reason, she didn't care.
I got no time for the corner boys
Down in the street making all that noise
Or the girls out on the avenue
Cause tonight I wanna be with you
Sirius would have a heart attack if he knew of what Remus was thinking of. Siri was a little overprotective of Monica, which was understable, he was the older twin, her big brother.
Remus decided it was time to act on his dreams. He would ask Monica out.
It was mid-summer, so it meant a trip to the Black's house. It was a little out of the way, but he could take that if it meant Monica would be there.
Tonight I'm gonna take that ride
Across the river to the Jersey side
Take my baby to the carnival
And I'll take her on all the rides
He crossed the bridge over the stream that ran across the property. He followed the red rose bushes till he found their front door. He rang the door bell, where Mrs. Diana Black answered.
"Hello, Remus. I'm sorry but Sirius isn't here." She told him, smiling sympathetically.
"That's ok, Mrs. Black. Is Monica there?"
"Ummm....I believe so. Come on in." She went to go find her daughter.
Remus looked around the Black's house. It was so big, they certainly didn't hide their wealth. He saw Sirius' border collie, Louie, lying on the leather sofa. There was a beautiful painting of Diana and Kevin Black's wedding day above that. And an Italian flag was framed by the marble lamps.
"Remus?"
He turned around. There she was, she was so beautiful.
Her normally pale skin was tanner than he remembered. The sleek, straight black hair of hers shined as she stood by the doorway. She had no makeup on, just a pair of cutoff shorts and a t-shirt that said "Jersey Girl".
Remus smiled. "Hi, Mon."
"Hi."
"Um...I was just wondering something."
"Yeah?"
Cause down the shore everything's all right
You and your baby on a Saturday night
You know all my dreams come true
When I'm walking down the street with you
"Monica, I love you."
Sha la la la la la la
Sha la la la la la la la la
Sha la la la la la la
Sha la la la I'm in love with a Jersey girl
"Remus..."
"I don't care if you don't like me like that. I just wanted to let you know."
You know she thrills me with all her charms
When I'm wrapped up in my baby's arms
My little girl gives me everything
I know that some day she'll wear my ring
She opened up her arms and gave him a big hug.
"So...um, do you want to go out?"
He asked her as their embrace ended.
"What the hell, sure."
So don't bother me man I ain't got no time
I'm on my way to see that girl of mine
Cause nothing matters in this whole wide world
When you're in love with a Jersey girl
Sha la la la la la la
Sha la la la la la la la la
Sha la la la la la la
Sha la la la I'm in love with a Jersey girl
"So...let's not tell Sirius, Aries, Orion, or Apollo, yet?" Remus asked, half-jokingly.
"Of course not. I don't want the Mafia to place a hit on you." She smiled, also half-joking.
He looked at her, not believing that she was his girlfriend.
"Do you want to do something, like Saturday?" he asked her, praying she'd say yes.
"Sure, Remus....but it is Saturday."
"Oh. Then maybe in an hour or two, there's this new cafe in Hogsmeade, it's really good."
"Okay, then 7ish?"
"Yeah."
Two hours later, he went to the Blacks. Monica's father let him in. He climbed the stairs to go get Monica, he opened the door.
She was asleep on her bed, lying there in a beautiful black dress. Her makeup was all done. She looked like an angel.
I see you on the street and you look so tired
I know that job you got leaves you so uninspired
When I come by to take you out to eat
You're lyin' all dressed up on the bed baby fast asleep
She woke up as he was going to leave.
"Remus?"
He turned around.
"Come here."
He did, he stood right next to her bed.
"Are you still hungry?"
"No."
"Good. Lay down with me."
Remus smiled as she curled up next to him.
So what if the reservations were $200?
That's the price you pay when you fall in love.
Nothing matters in this whole wide world
When you're in love with a Jersey girl
Author notes: Please review!
Let me know if I should continue the Monica/Remus relationship.
I have a few ideas.....
