Would you be my girlfriend? (x4)

(I like you baby)

Would you be my girlfriend?

Ron looked at Harry intently. He was studying his friend to see if he had heard the rumors.

"What do you want Ron?" he finally asked. "You're really startin' to freak my out here. If you keep looking at me like that, I'm going to start thinking you have a crush on me." Ron playfully punched his best friend.

"I was just trying to see if you've heard the rumors. You know...that you like Hermione." Harry looked up from his potions essay.

"And you couldn't just ask me?" Ron shook his head.

"Hermione always says that we should just read each other's expressions." Harry grinned.

"Yeah...she does say that a lot, doesn't she?" Ron looked at his dreamy expressions.

"So the rumors are true!!!" Harry blushed.

"Since when do you listen to rumors? And since when do you believe them?"

"Since it involves my two best friends! Ask her out why don't ya?" Harry frowned.

"She's going out with that Ravenclaw Jason Dean. She needs someone who can match her intelligence. Although why she picked him I'll never know. I mean, he acts as thought they're not an item."

"Yeah, no kidding. He's a real jerk if you ask me."

I don't know why you care (why you thinkin' bout him mama?)

He doesn't even know you're there.

'Cause he don't love your eyes

And he don't love your smile

Girl you know that ain't fair.

Hermione was taking a walk with her boyfriend of one month, Jason. He was smart and understood her desire to study, and he never got mad if she wanted to study instead of doing something with him. They could hold an intellectual conversation. But when it came to him being there in a romantic way, she just never felt his desire. Sure they kissed and other things like that, but it lacked something. She wished there was something more there. He was a great guy, but he never seemed to be the romantic type.

Hermione never expected a lot out of Jason, but she wanted him to at least be somewhat romantic. Giving her flowers or telling her how beautiful she was. Little compliments would've been nice. But she couldn't be picky.

In the middle of the night

Is he gonna be by your side?

Or will he run and hide?

You don't know cause things ain't clear.

And baby when you cry

Is he gonna stand by your side?

Does the man even know you're alive?

I got an idea.

Ron and Harry weren't the only ones that heard the rumors of Harry's crush on Hermione. Jason and Hermione got wind of the rumors too. One day, he decided to confront her on the matter.

"How do you feel about Harry?" he asked.

"Well, he's a great friend, and I tell him practically everything. I don't know what I'd do without him as a friend."

"That's not what I meant. Do you like him as more than just a friend?" She looked into his eyes curiously. She couldn't tell if he was being serious or not. She figured he must be because he rarely ever joked around.

"No! Not like that. I'm with you, and you're the one I like. We're going out. If I liked Harry, or if he even liked me, which I'm sure he doesn't because he's never shown interest in me like that, then we'd be going out, wouldn't we?" Jason simply shrugged. He kept walking on. She sighed. What was she supposed to do? Sometimes she felt as though he didn't even know she was around. When he talked to his friends, he ignored her. If she tried to say her opinion, they would look at her, and then they would continue on with their conversation. Most of them thought that by being in Ravenclaw, they were superior to her, even though she got better marks than most of them. Not many Ravenclaws had this perception, but there were some who thought that way.

Won't you be my girlfriend?

I'll treat you good (I'll treat you good girl)

I know you hear your friends when they say you should

'Cause if you were my girlfriend

I'd be your shining star

The one to show you where you are

Girl you should be my girlfriend.

Hermione was sitting on her bed talking to Lavender, Parvati, and Ginny. Ginny would often come into their dorm room to talk "girl talk" and they all enjoyed her company.

"Tell me why you're going out with that prat again," Lavender said after Hermione recounted her conversation with Jason.

"He is not a prat!" she exclaimed. Although now that someone had actually said he was, she wasn't sure she believed herself.

"You should go out with Harry," Ginny stated. The girls had all agreed to try to get Hermione to go out with Harry. They knew he liked her. Anyone with eyes could see that. He got a glazed look in his eyes during classes and he would spend a good amount of time looking at her. During meals, sitting in the common room, everything that they did together.

"Potter?" Hermione asked.

"Well what other Harry do you know?" Parvati asked. Hermione sighed.

"He doesn't like me like that."

"Like hell he doesn't!" Ginny replied. "That boy's had his eyes on you since fourth year. That's why I stopped liking him. I realized that he was too much infatuated with you to ever see me as a girlfriend-type person." Hermione just sat there with her mouth open.

"Oh don't look so surprised 'Mione. Are you saying you never see those gorgeous emerald eyes checking you out?" Lavender inquired.

"Well no...I never thought about it that way. I just don't see Harry as 'checking me out' the thought never crossed my mind." The three girls rolled their eyes simultaneously.

Does he know what you feel (know what you feel?)

Are you sure that it's real (are you sure?)

Does he ease your mind

Or does he break your stride?

Did you know that love could be a shield yeah.

In the middle of the night

Is he gonna be by your side?

Or will he run and hid?

You don't know cause things ain't clear.

And baby when you cry (oh no)

Is he gonna stand by your side? (no no)

Does the man even know you're alive?
I got an idea (listen girl)

Hermione and Jason had been dating for two months much to everyone's frustration. Hermione was beginning to see what everyone was talking about. At first Jason had been kind. Not cute or romantic, but nice. Now he criticized her and made fun of her in front of his friends. She no longer had that sparkle in her eyes. She lost them when he started to verbally abuse her. He never once hurt her physically, but everyone could tell that something was different about her. She no longer had her cheerful attitude. She never seemed to have the effort to scold Harry and Ron.

One day, she and Jason had a terrible fight. She had had enough of his insults.

"Who the hell do you think you are? All you ever do is criticize me, jeer at me, and say mean, spiteful and hateful things at me! What did I ever do to you?"

"I know what's up with you and Potter. I see the way he eyes you and the way you flirt back. You expect me to believe that whole, 'we're just friends' attitude? Well I don't believe it for a second! You flirt with any guy, and for all I know, you could be going behind my back!" She didn't know quite what to say. She was shocked and angry.

"How dare you accuse me of cheating on you! How do I know that you're not cheating on me? I thought you were supposed to be smart. I don't know how else you got into Ravenclaw," she hissed at him. She turned around and stalked off.

Won't you be my girlfriend (yeah yeah)

I'll treat you good (I'll treat you good girl)

I know you hear your friends when they say you should

'Cause if you were my girlfriend

I'd be your shining star

The one to show you where you are

Girl you should be my girlfriend.

Hermione felt a lot better as she walked around the lake a couple days later. She hadn't spoken to Jason, and she assumed that they would be breaking up fairly soon. As she was approaching the huge oak tree by the lake, she heard a deep familiar voice.

"Forget about her. We're through. She could never take a hint." She immediately identified it as Jason's voice, and she continued to listen.

"Well, alright. I just don't want her to hex me. Did you see what she did to me in fifth year? It was horrible!" Hermione recognized that voice as well. She couldn't remember the girl's name at the moment, but she knew it was Cho's friend who had spilled the beans about Dumbledore's Army. She slowly went around the tree and saw the two kissing. She cleared her throat, and the two quickly pulled apart. She raised her eyebrow and managed to hex them and then get them into a full body bind. She then sprinted back to the castle.

Once she reached the common room, she broke into tears. No one else was around since it was lunch hour. She knew she shouldn't be hurt. Jason was a jerk, everyone was right. But somehow she still felt an ache in her heart. Maybe it was from what she just witnessed, but maybe it had also been the fact that Harry had gotten frustrated that she was still dating Jason the Jerk after two months, and he had asked out another Gryffyndor, Holly. She let out a shudder with her sob. She regretted not letting Harry know how she felt.

Ever since I saw your face

Nothing in my life has been the same

I walk around just saying your name.

Without you my world would end, yeah.

I've searched around this whole damn place

And everything says you were meant to be

My girlfriend...oh.

Harry and Ron walked into the common room talking and joking around when they heard the loud sobs coming from Hermione. Ron looked at Harry, gave him a pat on the back, and then headed up the stairs to their room. Harry hesitantly made his way towards Hermione. He knew that she was crying because of Jason.

"If that guy has hurt her again...he'll be sorry he was ever born! He's hurt her enough these past two months," he thought to himself. He sat down and gave her a warm hug.

"What happened 'Mione?" It took Hermione a while to realize who had spoken, and she struggled to stop crying.

"N-n-nothing. J-just J-jason." She pulled away from his hold and wiped away her tears. "I saw him making out with some other girl." Harry embraced her again. She told him everything that had happened, and he listened carefully. He never once said, "I told you so," for he had. But he knew that what she needed right now was a good shoulder to cry on, and someone to comfort her. And he cared about her so much.

Won't you be my girlfriend (yeah)

I'll treat you good (uh)

I know you hear your friends when they say you should

'cause if you were my girlfriend (my girlfriend)

I'd be your shining star (shining star)

The one to show you where you are.

"C'mon now Hermione. He didn't deserve such a wonderful person. You're three time as smart as him, you're more loving, caring, kind, and understanding than he is, and he didn't see how lucky he was."

"Oh Harry," she said bitterly. "That's not why I'm crying! I don't give a damn about him! We were over days ago, I just wish I hadn't wasted so much time and thought on him." He looked into her eyes.

"Then why are you crying? I hate to see you cry. Someone so beautiful shouldn't cry! It's a real shame." Harry's kind words got her started all over again.

"I'm crying because I've lost my chance with you Harry. You're going out with Holly, and she likes you, and you two should be happy together!"
"Hermione! We split up last week. You never noticed though. I tried to forget my chances with ever going out with you, so that's why I started to date you. But she could tell that my attention was elsewhere. She very politely told me that she didn't think we belonged together, and then she dumped me.. Hermione, I've always liked you. I've like you ever since second year when you were petrified, and I realized that I might loose you. That scared me more than anything, and I couldn't sleep for more than two hours without worrying about you."

Girl you should be my girlfriend

My baby...(you make my heart sing)

My baby (girl you make my heart sing)

Hermione smiled as she looked into Harry's eyes. Finally, she liked him, knew it, and was single. And he liked her, he always knew it, and now he was single too. He then took his robe able wiped her tears. He took her hand in his and kissed each one. Then he kissed her on the lips. It was a small kiss, but it made both of them smile. After they looked at each other for a few minutes, enjoying the silence, and looking into their eyes, they kissed again, but it was longer this time.

Suddenly, they heard clapping and cheering. They pulled apart and saw Ron, Lavender, Ginny, and Parvati standing at the bottom of the stairs in a little group. They were smiling.

"It's about time!" Ginny exclaimed.

"Yeah, you two took forever to get together!" Ron added.

"Just had to keep us all waiting didn't you?" Lavender asked in a false anger tone of voice.

"I'm so happy for you two!" was all Parvati could say. "So are you two just gonna sit there like that, or are you going to kiss?" The two looked at each other and kissed again, which got them another round of cheers and applause.

Girl you should be...my girlfriend

Girl you should be...my girlfriend (it's destiny)

Girl you should be...my girlfriend

Girl you should be...my girlfriend.

Harry took Hermione's hand in his as they walked around the castle. They had been dating for two weeks. All of a sudden, Harry stopped walking, but Hermione still went because she hadn't noticed he'd stopped, until she felt her arm jerk as she was still hold his hand. She stopped and gave him a questioning look.

"Why'd ya stop?" He looked into her eyes the way he always did. They way that gave her shivers up and down her spine.

"I wanted to know. Would you be my girlfriend?" She grinned.

"Of course I will! I've been waiting for you to ask me since we started dating!" She gave him a hug, but soon pulled apart for her kiss...one of her favorite things she liked to do.
