Author's Note:
Although the song is originally sung by one guy, I adjusted it slightly so it would fit for a couple. Enjoy and review!

"Well you know something, it is your fault, and you are an absolute - "

"It's always my fault, isn't it, while you run around, carefree with your stupid cutesy shirt and -"

"You know that has nothing to do with it, you slimy - "

"This is the fourth time since the beginning of the month that you've blamed me for hap- "

Hey

If we can't find a way out of these problems

Then maybe we don't need this

"Why don't you just leave then!" The words floated in the air full of tension after the massive jumble of threats, screams, and complaints stopped suddenly. Her face was red from all the yelling, not matching well with her flame-colored hair, and his usually silky hair was in tumbles after he'd run his fingers through it so many times in frustration. They tried to stare the other down, forcing the other to surrender. Finally, he turned around and walked out, avoiding the magazines and pillows that were thrown at each other and landing on the ground.

Standing face to face

Enemies at war we build defenses

And secret hiding places

She stood there for ten minutes, not thinking, until she heard the door slam. He left. She slumped onto the floor and leaned against a wall. He left. She looked out the window, but she could make out anything since it was dark outside. The only sound she could hear was the rain banging against her window. What did I do? She hugged her knees and let the tears fall.

He had grabbed his necessities before he left: his emergency business suitcase in case he didn't have time to pack, his wallet, his keys. After one final look around, he took his picture of him and her on their first date. Looking at it briefly, he remembered exactly how he felt that day. Shaking his head in anger, he shoved the picture in his bag and left, letting the door slam a little harder than he meant to have it slam.

He opened the passenger seat and threw in his suitcase. Slamming the door, he faced the sky and let the water fall on him. He hopped into the car, turning up the radio and screwing along with the rock song. When he got to the highway a minute later, he realized that he didn't know where to go. He just drove, screaming his lungs out.

Hey

More than angry words I hate this silence

It's getting so loud

Well I want to scream

But bitterness has silenced these emotions

It's getting hard to breathe

She walked around the room, picking up everything that was thrown and carefully throwing out everything that was broken. As she tidied up the magazine rack they never used, she knew she was delaying what was needed to be seen. She walked into their bedroom. He's left. It was the only thing she on her mind. His watch, his extra clothes, his ring. He placed it on the table in front of the mirror. Our picture. She started looked for the picture. It wasn't supposed to be hard to find. The frame was one of a kind: it was her great grandmother's, passed on from generation to generation. It's gone. He's left with it. Her head swam with hate and love, both emotions for the same person. How could he have taken it; it's mine. Why did I have to say those things to him; I knew it would hurt him. That bastard, why didn't he have the common sense to realize that we were - I was just angry. She groaned and hit the arm of the chair she was sitting in. Where the hell is he in this damn storm?

She waited until the sun rose again, then retired to bed, comprehending that he left. Watch over him, please. She thought silently. Make sure he's ok. I don't care if he doesn't come back to me, just make sure.... She trailed off. Who am I talking to?

So tell me isn't happiness

Worth more than a gold diamond ring

I'm willing to do anything

To calm the storm in my heart

I've never been the praying kind

But lately I've been down upon my knees

Not looking for a miracle

Just a reason to believe

He checked the odometer: 70 mph. Somewhere in the back of his mind, he knew to slow down, but what was dominating him was blind, couldn't see anything but the streetlights flashing by. A gray Toyota was speeding along, trying to get in front of his Jaguar. Ha, try and get ahead? I don't think so. He made a sharp turn and pushed his foot down even more on the accelerator. He looked back, watching the gray car fall behind. He laughed and turned back around, in time to see the headlights of a truck heading his way.

I might need you to hold me tonight

I might need you to say it's all right

I might need you to make the first stand

Because tonight I'm finding it hard to be your man

She tossed and turned, her mind full of dreams of yesteryear. Their first date, their first kiss, so many firsts together. When they talked all might and slept through all their classes the next day. When he sent her flowers that he'd put a spell on to remain exactly has she received them. Now what's left? she wondered. She couldn't imagine her life without him.

Do you remember not long ago?

When we used to live for the nighttime

Cherish each moment

Now we don't live we exist

We just run through our lives

So alone

She woke up to a damp body getting into bed with her. She gasped when she saw who it was. "I'm so sorry, babe." She started crying at the sound of his voice, not knowing whether to push him away or to hug him and forget. "I almost left today. Really left. But then something happened to wake me up." He told her of his speeding and the truck's headlights. Both he and the truck had swerved in opposite directions at the last second, avoiding collision. "And all I could think about was you." He held her, as she said her thanks to whomever that he was safe and back with her.

That's why you've got to hold me
