"Ron, who do you think Hermione fancies?" asked Harry.

"For the millionth time, Harry, I don't know! Why don't you just hurry up and ask her out to accompany you to Hogsmeade?" said Ron.

"That's a good idea Ron, I think I will when Hermione comes back from changing," said Harry.

Suddenly, Hermione entered their train compartment and sat down. She noticed how they both looked so serious and asked them about it. "Hey guys, how come you look so serious?" she asked.

Harry stared at her for a second and then started saying, "Oh it's nothing. Hey Hermione, would you like to...."

"Would I like to what, Harry?" Hermione asked.

"Um, never mind. I guess I'll go and change into my robes."

How pathetic; I freaked out. I guess I'll ask her later when Ron isn't around, Harry thought to himself.

Meanwhile, back in the compartment, Hermione begins acting flirtatious around Ron, and Ron goes along with it.

Ten minutes later, Harry arrives in the compartment, and to his surprise, finds Ron and Hermione snogging! Harry runs out and Ron runs after him yelling, "Harry, come on! She was the one kissing me!"

Back at Hogwarts, Harry and Ron had stopped talking to each other. Harry's anger stemmed from the fact that Ron had betrayed him. He had kissed Hermione, even though he knew Harry's feelings towards her. Ron was angry because Harry wasn't talking to him, and because he had attempted to apologize, but Harry just ignored him.

That night, Harry was sitting by the fire thinking things over. Hermione went over to sit next to him, to see what was bothering him. When she asked what was wrong between him and Ron, he answered that it was just a stupid fight that they had. Of course, Harry had felt very guilty for lying to Hermione. He couldn't really feel mad towards Hermione for snogging Ron, since he secretly loved her.

A week later as Harry was finishing uked about the fight between him and Ron. Harry decided to tell her the truth, because he trusted her. He told her of his secret love for Hermione, and how he was really jealous. As well as how he felt betrayed by Ron. After all, Ron was the one who had suggested asking her out in the first place. He explained all of this to Ginny, who listened patiently. Ron, she said, had really liked Hermione since his first year, but was too embarrassed to tell anyone, let alone Harry and Hermione. And when he found out that Hermione really fancied him, he couldn't turn her down. "He really did feel sorry for you, but he had already said sorry, and you ignored him, so now it's your turn to act," Ginny said to him.

But he didn't have to apologize; he could do something drastic and get revenge, Harry thought. He told Ginny of this, and even though she was Ron's sister, she thought revenge would be funny, so she came up with an idea. Harry and Ginny would pretend to be a couple to get Ron mad, and to get Hermione jealous. And so the war began.

But as all of this was occurring, Harry failed to notice that Ginny was edging ever closer to him. At the end of this very long conversation, she ended up sitting right next to him with her head on his shoulder as he kept rattling on about how to pretend to be a couple. Finally, when he realized that she wasn't paying the slightest bit of attention to him, he looked over at her as she lifted her head from his shoulder. They looked into each other's eyes, and very slowly leaned in, and kissed.

Meanwhile in the common room, Hermione and Ron were having a row. Ron was currently yelling at Hermione about why she never went with him to Hogsmeade anymore.

Was she cheating on him? he spat at her indignantly.

"No Ron! Where would you ever get that idea? I had to study!" Hermione yelled.

It didn't really help Ron feel any better when Harry and Ginny came into the room, hand in hand.

A week later, Ron and Harry were more furious at each other than ever before. Ron was now mad at Harry for being with his sister, and for Harry not talking to him for the whole Hermione thing, even though they weren't together anymore.
Hermione had started to pay more attention to Harry than she did before, and one would think that Harry would be happy because the plan with Ginny was working. Hermione was getting a little jealous. But was it still a plan, or were Harry and Ginny not pretending anymore? Did Harry still want the plan to work? Harry was very confused.

That night in the common room Harry was sitting in front of the fire thinking things over. All of a sudden Hermione came d to Harry. They sat in silence for a while until Hermione said in a rush, "Ron told me why you two were in a fight. I'm really sorry; I didn't know you fancied me. If I did, this would never have happened. The truth is, I have to tell you something. This whole time, I've actually fancied you. I got together with Ron because I knew that he liked me, and I never thought you would even notice me. So I got together with Ron just so you would notice me."

"Well, that is sort of funny, because that's exactly what I did. I only got together with Ginny to make you notice me," Harry confessed.

"But when you got together with Ginny, I thought all hope was lost," she finished.

Hermione slowly leaned forward and kissed him. "I'm sorry," Hermione said.

"That's okay," Harry responded, as he leaned forward and kissed her. They ended the night with snogging each other.

Later as Harry lay in bed, he realized that kissing Hermione wasn't what he wanted anymore. It didn't mean anything to him. He really liked, maybe even loved, Ginny and now he felt guilty for cheating on her. He had to fix things. He began the next morning.

First he told Ron he was sorry for all that he had done, and they promised each other that they would never fight over a girl ever again. Next, he went to Hermione and told her that he couldn't be with her anymore. He was really sorry, but the truth was that the kiss they shared last night didn't mean anything to him. She was really glad when he said this because it was then that she had realized that it didn't mean anything to her either. She was still in love with Ron. So as she left to go find Ron, Harry went to go d her alone in Moaning Myrtle's bathroom crying. He asked her why she was crying and she was surprised he didn't know. It turns out she had been in the corner of the common room finishing her homework when she saw them snogging. Harry told her he was very sorry, and told her what he had just told Hermione. Ginny could tell he was very sorry, and decided to forgive him. They ended up snogging. When they went to lunch they weren't very surprised to find that Hermione and Ron were back together. Harry was happy that everything turned out all right. Now everybody was friends again.
