Love in the Moonlit Water

Ron stood outside of the Hogwarts castle, staring at the moon waiting for the girl. The girl who he had seen out here so many times through the windows of Gryffindor common room. He didn't know who she was, but tonight he planned to find out. He knew she would be coming, she always came when the moon was full.

He was lost in the thought of her when the door opened and she stepped outside. He watched the way her white silk nightgown floated down past her feet, how her brown hair whipped in the wind.

He followed her closely so he wouldn't lose sight of her. She was humming softly, and the noise traveled backwards to his ears. It was a lovely song, so free; it made him want to fly.

She stopped and stood still on the beach of the lake. She watched as the water rippled so beautifully and wondrously that Ron stared at it as well. He began to imagine who she was and he started to grow anxious. He saw her step into the water as if it washed away her pain. She looked so beautiful.

"Ronald, please come and stand with me," the girl said, catching him off guard. Her voice was familiar, he knew who she was, he just couldn't remember. He walked up to her as the cold water washed over him. He stood next to her for a while until she turned toward him and smiled.

"Loony Luna Lovegood?" he whispered questioningly as he stared at her face.

"Yes, Ronald, it's me," she said tilting her head to the side and smiled widely. She stared into his eyes, knowing he was confused.

"Luna, why do you come out here?"

"I like to come out here and watch the moon. It's just so perfect, isn't it?"

He knew she was lying, but he just didn't know what to say or do. At last he resorted to being quiet, and staring out at the water. Something drew him in closer. He walked out farther into the lake until the water was up to his mouth and he stopped. Luna followed him even though she had to swim to come next to him. He was silent, and so was she.

The moon was traveling farther up into the sky, until at last Luna broke the silence, "Ron, why are you out here in this freezing water on this windy night?" she said, firmly wanting the truth.

He pondered for a moment, not sure what to say, until at last he replied to her, "I am out here because I think I'm in love. I think I'm in love with you."

She stared at him and knew he was telling the truth. She looked at him, and saw that he wanted her to tell him why she was there. Luna looked into his eyes and said to him, "I'm here because I'm in love. I'm in love with you Ronald Weasley."

He looked into her eyes and drew his mouth closer to hers. They kissed, so sweet and so pure. The tips of their tongues touched and their lips touched together innocently. They tried to hang on but they soon needed to breathe. Their mouths pulled away from each other.

They relaxed for a minute before the longing to kiss grew strong in them both. They kissed and sank slowly into the water letting the cold wash over themselves. They came up after a time that seemed too short, but they were forced to come up for air.

The sun was starting to rise, and they knew they would have to hurry to make it back to their dorms in time. They kissed a short goodbye, and Ron whispered in her ear, "Same time."

"Same place," Luna finished for him as she walked out of the water. They ran back to the castle side by side until they reached the staircase, Luna, went to the fifth floor, Ron, went to the seventh.

The day past slowly for both of them. It seemed as if they were living life in slow motion, until that night when they met again in the moonlit water.
