Hermione finished brushing her hair into a ponytail and put the brush down on the desk next to the window. She stood in her Head Girl quarters staring out of the window over Hogwarts. She could see the lake and the giant squid was flexing its tentacles lazily. She moved her head to the left and saw Hagrid racing around the bank of the lake with Fang. She smiled as Hagrid bent down out of breath.

Her thoughts then turned to him. She smiled as she thought of how he made her feel, everything he had ever said to her. How things had changed between them. How he had loved her since first year. She smiled as she pictured his face in her mind, smiling, laughing and talking.

Still don't know what I was looking for

But my time was running round a million dead end streets

And every time I thought I'd got it made

It seemed the taste was not so sweet

Hermione had not had much luck with dates. Many boys just saw her as a friend and a source of information. Those that didn't had been put off by her bushy hair and know it all brown eyes. She had had many failed dates where the boy had been intimidated by her and had either stood her up or left her. Dating didn't seem half as interesting as people made out when people were constantly rejecting you.

So I turned myself to face me

But I've never caught a glimpse

Of how the others must see the faker

I'm much too fast to take the test

Hermione had changed her look. She had tried different dyes, becoming a black haired girl, redhead and even a blond! None of that had made much difference and Hermione had even used a charm to turn her eyes a different colour. In the end she had had to change her personality until even she didn't recognise her any more. She realised how much she had been forced to change and how little she reflected her true personality.

Changes......face so strange

Changes.....don't wanna be a wretched one

Changes.....face so strange

Changes.....I'm just gonna have to be a different one

Time may change me but I can't change time

She had always thought that she was ugly and had a strange face but now she had changed, she realised how strange she looked now. She almost missed the old Hermione. She shook that thought out of her head.

I watched the ripples change their size

But never leave the stream

Forming permanent sand

So the days flow through my eyes

But still the days seem the same

Hermione knew that changing herself was not a good idea. No matter what she looked like, she still got dumped by many people. Every date seemed the same and as Hermione had grown up she realised how shallow people could be. Still she never left the dating zone, always hoping for just one good date.

And these children that you spit on

As they're trying to change their world

They're immune to your consultations

Their quite aware of what they're going through

Hermione knew that children were being encouraged to look like models etc but Hermione believed that children had a beauty that few models could accomplish. It was the beauty of youth and how naturally it came to them. She felt ashamed that she was trying to change herself.

Strange fascinations fascinated me

Changes are taken place

I'm going through

Changes....face so strange

Look out you rock and rollers

It was then that Hermione had decided. She was going to be herself and if people couldn't handle that then stuff them. She turned away from the window and turned to the full mirror hanging on her door. She saw her bushy brown hair cascading down her back bringing out her brown eyes. She smiled and waited patiently for her date. Just then there was a knock on the door. She went to answer it.

"Hiya Harry."

The tall black haired boy smiled. "You ready?"

"Ready as I'll ever be. No changes."
