Chapter Two-Ginny's Disappointment
Ginny sat brooding in the common room the next day. She hadn't meant to mess up so badly, she just wanted to do well for Harry. He'd always been there for her, been her knight in shining armor in second year (well, not technically in armor; he had been covered in blood and slime, but still...).
She tried her optimist attitude and was just getting the hang of being her usual cheery self when Fred came down the stairs, George right at his heels.
"So, how bad did you mess up in front of your ickle Harrykins?" George asked in his baby voice he'd perfected for Ron bashing.
"Yeah, I'd hate to see Harry not pay attention to you-wait, he doesn't already, so what are you missing?" Fred was gleefully malicious this morning, Ginny thought to herself. "Fred, shut up now before I hit you with the Furnunculus Curse!" she huffed, storming out the portrait hole door to breakfast. She muttered to herself the whole way, saying things like, "Ooo, I could so kill them right now."
She ended up in the Great Hall, finally, and sat down next to Lara and speared some kippers to put on her plate.
"Mornin', Miss Sunshine," Lara said sarcastically, giving her a light punch in the arm. "I thought we'd forgotten about Harry and the whole play after the immense pillow fight last night."
"Of course not!" she cried. "Hello, I totally messed up right in front of Harry! How will I be able to be cheerful when I know he's thinking I'm an idiot?" Just as she finished the line, Harry walked up to the table. Ginny blushed beet red and slid further down in her seat.
"He doesn't think you're an idiot, Virgina Daisy Weasley! You're being a prat, like your brothers!" Even as Lara said this, however, she blushed at the very thought of Ginny's older twin brothers. She had such a big crush on George, it made Ginny think her love of Harry was minor. Lara had even stolen a picture of George that Ginny kept in her dresser drawer.
Sighing, Ginny got up and walked to class. It was to be a very busy day.
* * * * *
That afternoon after class, Ginny crept down the marble stairs in the entryway and looked up at the bulletin board. The cast list was to be posted there today.
Closing her eyes, she took a step toward the board and took a deep breath. Please let it be Rowena, she thought, please let it be Rowena...
Opening them at last, she looked at the top. Gryffindor, Harry Potter. Big shock there, Ginny thought giddily to herself. Slytherin, Justin Finch-Fletchley. Justin? SALAZAR SLYTHERING? Cho had to be out of her mind when she chose that role. Hufflepuff, Susan Bones. Another no-brainer, Susan could play Helga brilliantly.
And there it was. Looking, she read...Ravenclaw...Parvati Patil. Parvati! Parvati! Ginny was ready to shriek in rage. She continued to look down the list to see where she was.
She didn't have to look far. Right underneath was Gabrielle Gryffindor, Ginny Weasley. She was going to play Harry's DAUGHTER? Ginny laughed aloud at the irony. Harry could have his platonic feelings for her, just like always, as she pined for the man who'd play her DAD.
That over, Ginny put her finger down the list, and laughed aloud again at the next name. Hayden Hufflepuff, Ron Weasley. Ron was going to play a Hufflepuff? There'd be no handling him for the next six weeks. And then...Draco Malfoy, Sukor Slytherin.
She gasped. She'd have to pretend to be in love with that PRAT!? Cho was really going to get it, she really was...
Groaning, Ginny went up to Gryffindor Tower. "The Fat Lady Sings," she said dully, feeling dejavu of yesterday.
The Fat Lady swung open, and Ginny tumbled into the common room and flopped in a chair. Ron was sitting nearby, beating Harry (yet again) at wizard's chess. Noticing her, he opened his mouth to form a question.
"You're Hayden Hufflepuff, Ron, before you ask me." Ron looked infuriated.
"And who exactly is my mum in this play?"
"Susan Bones." Ginny grinned, savoring his expression of disbelief.
"I am the heir of freakin' HUFFLEPUFF?!" Ron almost yelled, gaining from this statement a glare from Hermione.
"Ronald Weasley, hold your tongue!" she said reproachfully, giving him one of her famous McGonagall-like stares.
"And who am I?" Harry asked, giving her a smile. "Plus you, we're dying to know."
"Well, Harry, our roles are connected. You're Godric." His smile grew huge.
"I'M Godric?" he asked, incredulous.
"Harry, you seem so surprised. That was an obvious one, I was certain it would be you right from the beginning." He gave her a grateful grin.
"Thanks, Ginny. And who're you?"
"Your daughter." Ron stifled a laugh, and Ginny punched him on the arm for even thinking about laughing.
"Well, congratulations," he said, giving her a smile.
"Same to you. Parvati's Rowena, by the way. And Ron, you're to play the love interest of Lavender Brown, I'm presuming." Harry tilted his head.
"Then who's Sukor?" he asked, genuinely curious. "Justin?"
Ron snorted, and Ginny gave him a reproachful look. "Actually, Justin is Salazar Slytherin." Fred and George, who had a non-stop habit of popping out of nowhere, chose that moment to show up and laugh hysterically, tears of mirth coming down their cheeks.
"You are kidding, right?" Fred asked. "Right?"
"No. And Draco is Sukor."
This did not rest well with her brothers.
"If he lays one hand on you, Ginny-" Ron warned.
"He won't get the opportunity. Professor Flitwick will supervise all play practices, remember?" She grinned at her brothers. "Besides, you all know I'd hex him before he could say 'You look adorable,' right?" They nodded.
"Good." And with that, Ginny stalked off to her dormitory, so she could flop on her bed and do her Astronomy homework.
