Harry Potter and the Ruin of Tears
Chapter 6- The Flaming Doorway
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
No one else seemed to notice the mysterious pyramid except them. Everyone walked right past it and did not even turn to look at it.
The pyramid was dark and damp inside, as if it had not been open for thousands of years. The air was heavy and moist, making it extremely hard to breathe. Harry could hear distant voices. They started walking down a long corridor with strange inscriptions and drawings on it.
"Wow...I've never seen any kind of these markings in the other pyramids. It must be a different language," said Bill.
"Look at zis!" said Fleur.
There, on the wall, written in silver , was a paragraph written in the strange language.
It said:
"A! Certhasiaro, lasto le lamen.
Tu le ethello I arda.
Edro fennas!"
"Interesting...I've never read or studied about these in ancient runes..." said Hermione.
"Amazing!" said Ron, who was looking at a picture of a young man. The picture was extremely hard to see as it was dark in the pyramid.
"Lumos," said Hermione.
An eerie light shot out of Hermione's wand onto the wall. The picture was slightly smeared, so they could not make out any of the details. All they saw was a drawing of a young man, but there was something that looked like it was attacking him. It resembled a storm of dark clouds, except, instead of high above the man, it was surrounding him. The man was tall and slim, a look of great concern resided in his eyes.
"What in bloody hell is that?" said Ron while pointing to the dark mist.
"I don't know, but it looks foreboding," answered Hermione.
"Well, let's move on, we haven't much time," said Bill.
"Two hours and thirty minutes to be exact," added George while looking at his watch.
They hurried down the corridor and turned right. They followed this corridor down and turned left. They headed straight and turned left to find themselves in the center of the pyramid.
"Wow..." said Ron while gaping at the room.
The room was made completely out of gold and jewels. It sparkled from the light of torches to resemble stars, scattered in a sky of gold. In the center of the room was a platform that was elevated almost to the top of the pyramid. There was a door on the bottom of this platform, which was already open. They approached this door and as they did, they could hear the sounds of people murmuring.
"This must be the Ruin of Tears Professor Dumbledore was talking about," whispered Harry.
"The what of what?" asked Bill.
"What iz zis thing you are talking about?" asked Fleur.
Harry, Ron, and Hermione explained what Dumbledore had told them before.
"Amazing!" said Bill.
"Magnifique!" said Fleur.
"But don't tell anyone what we told you and that we told you," said Ron, "we're already in enough trouble as it is."
"It's too late Albus..." said one voice, "It's already been released, and they have the key. It's only a matter of time before everything is consumed in darkness..."
"No, it's not too late," said another voice, Harry knew this was Dumbledore by his voice, "if we can find the five Regere orbs before they can, we can stop the darkness."
"They have the key," said the first voice, "we have no chance of finding the orbs."
"The key is in here," said Dumbledore while pointing to his head.
"Let's get a move on!" said a familiar voice. It was Tonks.
Harry heard the shuffling of feet coming their way.
"Hide, quickly!" Harry said.
They hid behind a couple of large, golden statues. They dared not to make the slightest sound so not to be caught. If they were caught, they would surely be sent back home and Mrs. Weasley would have a fit once she woke up.
Harry heard Dumbledore say "Hurry, the first orb is this way!"
"We need to follow them!" said Harry.
"Are you crazy?" asked Ron, "We'll be killed if we get caught; I don't want to know what my Mum is going to do once she wakes up..."
"It's the only way," stressed Harry, "Come on, what else are we going to do?"
"Well, we could..." started Hermione.
"It was a rhetorical question, Hermione," said Harry angrily.
They followed Dumbledore out of the center room and into the corridors. They turned right and then right again. They were going in the following the corridor down. They were not heading for the exit, they were heading deeper into the pyramid. Harry saw similar markings on the wall as last time, except these were black. As they passed these markings, they miraculously turned silver. Harry swore he could hear whispers coming from the markings. He didn't want to bring this up to the others though. When he was a second year, he heard voices form the wall, which ended up being the basilisk. Everyone thought he was crazy. He didn't want that to happen to him again. They continued through the corridors until they stopped in front of another door. This one was sealed shut and had those strange markings on it.
"Oh great....wonderful..." said Ron, carefully looking around him in case a spider popped out of no where.
Harry didn't know what he was doing. It was like he was possessed. He went up and started tracing the letters with his finger. They came to life. He heard more whispers. The markings emitted a strange, golden glow, which faded away. The door opened and as they walked in. In the center, was a platform, similar to the one in the center room, except much smaller. On the bottom of this platform was a door which was flung wide open. This door used to be sealed. They entered this door, and as Dumbledore and the others were in this room as well, Harry and the others hid.
"So it is true..." said Mr. Weasley.
"It has been released," said Dumbledore, "we haven't much time to find the first orb."
"Where is the first orb, is it in here somewhere?" asked Tonks.
"Yes it is," replied Dumbledore, "it is hidden very well in these ruins. The ancient civilization wanted to make sure that no one planned to revive this power. We must continue on. This way!"
They continued even deeper into the dark depths of the earth, until finally they reached yet another doorway except this was engulfed in flames and you could see through it. On the other side, floating was a silver orb. 'It must be one of the Regere orbs!' Harry thought.
"Oh dear," said Dumbledore, "this should be quite interesting."
"How are we supposed to get through a doorway of fire?" asked Ron.
"A simple charm should do it..." Hermione started.
"No, you don't get it," interrupted Harry, as he was irritated.
"Get what?" asked Ron.
"A charm won't work on this door," began Harry, "it's too obvious. There must be some other way..."
There were more marking on the wall, as well as the voices. This time the voiced were speaking in unison and in English. Harry saw where the voices were coming from. There were three women painted on the wall, next to the markings.
They said:
"Those that desire the power, heed our words. It is a perilous and useless task, turn back. Those stout of heart will cower at the sight of the perils ahead. Heed this warning. But if you must continue then beware. Make a choice but don't look back, or else the flames of doubt will singe your life away."
The women stopped talking. Harry was debating whether or not to tell Dumbledore when he imagined someone dying because of him. He decided to tell Dumbledore when Dumbledore started speaking to him.
"It's about time you show yourself, Mr. Potter," said Dumbledore. Everyone turned and looked at Harry and the others. "We can't get rid of you, now can we?" continued Dumbledore, "Do you know how much danger lurks around every corner of this Ruin?"
"Sorry Professor," began Harry, "but I need to tell you something.
"What is it?" asked Dumbledore.
"Well, this may sound a bit odd, but those drawing on the wall were talking to me," Harry said.
"Now were they?" asked Dumbledore. Everyone else started giggling to themselves, trying to hold it back when Dumbledore continued, "The spirits of the Elves of old rarely do speak to anyone, but those whom they do talk to are the only ones who can retrieve the orbs." Everyone stopped giggling. Now everyone looked at Harry, waiting for his response.
Harry started to walk to the flaming doorway when Ron called out, "Harry, what are you doing?"
"Don't worry, trust me. I know what I'm doing," Harry responded.
Harry stuck his hand through the fire, believing in himself that he can do it, and grabbed the orb. He then pulled it through the flames.
"I told you I knew what I was doing!" Harry said.
"Good job, Mr. Potter, very impressive..." said Dumbledore.
"Professor," began Harry, "you said something about 'Elves of old'."
"Ah, yes I did," said Dumbledore, "the ancient race that sealed away the power was the elvish race. The race that used it for evil was the human race. They were so easily tainted by power and greed."
"What's the difference between an elf and a human?" asked Ron.
"Well," said Dumbledore, "elves are the race of beauty and goodness. They have tremendous power and beauty. Although they look like humans, they are much different. They do not age-they are immortal. They can only be killed by means of grief, desecration, and by the sword. The elves did not fear death, so they did not become ghosts. They also have pointed ears. May I have the orb Harry?"
"Sure," said Harry while handing the orb to Dumbledore where he pocketed it safely away. The orbs were quite small, about the size of a snitch.
"Amazing," said Hermione, "I had no idea there was such a race!"
"Uh..." said George, "we have thirty minutes to get back."
"You should hurry then," said Dumbledore, "and best not mention it to Molly when she wakes up." Dumbledore smiled as Harry and the others ran off.
They were at Bill's front door when George yelled, "One minute!"
They quickly ran inside and said bye to Bill and Fleur. They opened the door and ran through it. Right after they went through it, it exploded, leaving a burn mark on the floor of both houses.
