The Pawn

Harry was not a coward. He was not one to run away from his problems. But he was also not suicidal. Which was why the day Harry was supposed to face Voldemort for the last time, that Harry was supposed to nobly lay down his life for the wizarding world, he was on a plane to France.

Harry had heard rumors for sometime about some sort of government assassination agency, floating around somewhere in Europe. Harry had remembered them the night before he was to face Voldemort for the last time. Harry decided the rumor was worth investigating.

Harry had very quickly realized that Voldemort had not taken over Europe as the ministry implied. There was no evidence even that any of his minions had set foot in Europe since the downfall of Voldemort some nineteen years ago. Also, the ministries of Europe had offered to help England with its Dark Lord problem, they had offered to hire assassins to eliminate Voldemort and his top officials for good. The English ministry had refused. They were too prideful to accept help. Because of their pride people died. But the ministry came up with their own plan. That plan involved Harry.

They decided they needed a sacrifice. So Harry be came their ritual sacrifice, their lamb, their own personal Christ. Harry would be offered to the Gods, though not in the ways of old, but with him dying nobly for the cause, bringing Voldemort with him. And no one objected. Not even Dumbledore. Especially not Dumbledore.

Dumbledore had been preparing Harry to accept his fate as a 'lamb' since the first year when he had first shown Harry that Harry was the only one who could do what had to be done. He'd done it with the Philosopher's stone. It was re-taught to Harry every year after that. Every year, there was something that had to do with Voldemort, and only Harry could save the day. Oh sure, his friends would help, but in the end it was always Harry, alone.

Dumbledore had not done it to be Cruel. He'd done it because he saw it as the only way. Dumbledore had always know that Voldemort would return, and so he had. Dumbledore was preparing for the future.

And now so was Harry. He had finally tracked down the assassination association, and he'd hired men to do what the Ministry wouldn't. When the deed was done Harry would go back and claim the reward the Ministry had so thoughtlessly promised Harry. They had promised Harry he could be the next minister of magic if he could take down Voldemort. Of course, they would not willingly give Harry the position, but Harry would use whatever means necessary to get what he wanted. Any thing whether it be bribery, blackmail, extortion, or even, murder.

Harry did not want to be their lamb, the Christ. But if he had to be, Harry would make Damn sure he got his own religion out of it, or at least his own government.
