Chapter 2
Harry followed everyone down into the heart of the battle. Around him Death Eaters fell along with members of the Order. Harry went full force against the Death Eaters hexing them and watching them fall.
He heard screams fill the air as more and more people were injured, around them hexes flying everywhere. Then he felt something that chilled him to the bone, he had felt this many times before. He knew what had caused it and how to get rid of it.
He spun on his heel and came face to face (well, almost) with Dementors. Before Harry could perform the charm he felt cold rush over him. He heard mixed voices, but couldn't separate them. Becoming weaker, Harry knew what he must do, with all his effort he raised his wand, thinking about the happiest thing he could picture and yelled "Expecto Patronum."
His wand emitted a large white stag that chased the Dementors down, the cold left his body and sound surrounded him again. He wiped sweat off his face but couldn't stop shaking. He couldn't work out what he had heard. His mind wondered away from the battle surrounding him as he thought about his worst memory. He didn't have one he had three
It was Harry's third year and he was faced with Dementors on the school ground. It was enough to make him want to leave. He had faced the Dementors all year and was faced to remember his parent's deaths. He couldn't put pictures to the voices but the voices alone were enough to haunt him for the rest of his life.
He could hear his father James Potter telling his mother Lily to run and take Harry as Voldemort turned up. James tried to hold Voldemort off while Lily escaped with Harry. However that plan didn't work, Lily had run into a room where Voldemort cornered her. He wanted Harry, to kill him, telling Lily she would be allowed to live, but she sacrificed herself for him, saving him from the curse, which should have killed him.
For years this had been the worse memory Harry had, yet until his fourth year at Hogwarts he couldn't remember it. His mind once again travelled to one of many unpleasant memories.
Harry had taken the Triwizard Cup along with Cedric Diggory and found that it was a portkey. They had been transported to a graveyard, which happened to be the one that Voldemort's father was buried. Harry felt his scar fill with pain as he fell to the floor.
From his position he couldn't see what was happening but when the pain subsided and he struggled to his feet he saw something that turned his blood cold. Next to him lay Cedric dead at the hand of Wormtail using Voldemort's wand.
Then his blood was used to get his (Voldemort's) body back. Harry had only escaped thanks to the echoes of Cedric, a witch called Bertha, a muggle and his parents.
Then he worked out what was probably his worse memory. The thing that had caused him the most pain. There was no doubt about it; Sirius' death had been the worst.
Sirius' death had caused him so much pain; it had caused him to work harder. He remembered it as if it were yesterday.
Harry was standing with Neville, as the Death Eaters fought members of the Order. Dumbledore entered the ministry causing the fighting to stop with the exception of Sirius Black and Bellatrix Lestrange. Harry was helpless as he watched Lestrange send a hex towards Sirius, causing him to over balance and fall through the veil of death. He remembered feeling empty as he watched and chasing after Lestrange to avenge his godfather's death.
The months that followed were some of the worst. Harry kept going over what had happened. Yes he had lost people before he had seen Cedric die a year earlier, but he didn't care for him the way he had for Sirius. He supposed that he had loved his parents but he couldn't remember them not really.
He didn't care who he hurt because he was hurting. He had found it hard to talk to Ron and Hermione for a while. But realised they too had lost someone they cared for (although not in the same way Harry had cared for him.)
He refused to believe that Sirius was gone and spent ages trying to find ways to communicate with him. First he tried the mirrors that Sirius gave him, and then he kept looking out for him as a ghost. He asked if a portrait had been painted of him, and even considered going back to the ministry and going through the veil himself.
It was a sad day when Harry finally admitted to himself that Sirius was gone and not coming back. He had taken it really bad and even ignored the Dursley's torments. He tried to make himself happy, he knew that Luna had been right when she had said that he see him again, after all they would be reunited in death.
That thought was what had kept him going, he decided that as Sirius had died saving him and his friends he would work harder he would master Defence Against the Dark Arts and make Sirius proud. He knew that he couldn't dwell on the past and that he had to keep going if only for the sake of those around him.
