The winds blew hard as lightning struck, thunder rumbling in the distance. The sky was dark, and rain was pouring.

A lone figure stood in the field next to the lake, the wind blowing her red hair all about. Silent tears were streaming down her face, mixing in with the rain as it fell. More thunder rumbled in the distance, but she was oblivious to all around her.

In her shaking hands she held an envelope. She had already read what it had to say.

-Flashback-

It was dinnertime in the Great Hall. Ginny Weasley was sitting at the Gryffindor table, barely touching her food. She looked around the room with a sigh. Most of the seventh year students were gone, off fighting somewhere. She thought about Ron, Harry and Hermione, and hoped they were safe.

Overall, her thoughts were on Draco. Ginny couldn't bear it if something happened to him. She unconsciously brought her hand up to touch the heart-shaped locket hanging from her neck. She wondered wear he was, what he was doing...

Just then, a gray owl landed in front of Ginny, startling her from her thoughts. She took the envelope from its outstretched leg, and it flew off. Carefully, she opened the envelope, withdrawing the letter from inside. She unfolded the parchment and glanced at it.

Dear Ms. Weasley,

We are sorry to inform you that Draco Malfoy was critically injured in battle last night, and passed away earlier this morning-

Not even bothering to finish the letter, Ginny stood up and ran out of the Great Hall. She ran all the way down the corridor, and out the entrance, into the pouring rain. She ran down the path, towards the lake, tears streaming down her face.

She couldn't believe it. Her world was spinning. Draco... no, he couldn't be dead. He had promised her. He had promised he'd return! He had promised she wouldn't be alone!

-Flashback-

"Draco, no! You can't leave!" exclaimed Ginny.

Draco sighed. "Gin, I have to."

"Why? Please..." she said in a whisper, tears threatening to escape. "Please don't leave me."

Draco reached into his pocket, pulling out a golden chain, with a heart shaped locket attached. He handed it to her, saying "Ginny, I promise you. I'll come back. I won't ever leave you here alone."

Ginny took the locket, and looked at it. Engraved on the front were the words "I Promise." Upon opening it, she discovered a picture of herself, and a picture of Draco inside.

"Promise?"

"Promise."

-End Flashback-

Reaching up, she took the necklace off, and looked at it. She opened it, looking at the pictures inside. It hurt to much to see his face, and she closed the locket. She ran her fingers over the words engraved on the front.

I Promise.

Suddenly, with an angry cry, the girl threw the locket as hard as she could into the lake. Breaking down into sobs, she fell to her knees, crying. "He can't be..." she whispered. "He can't be gone."

Yet she knew, no matter how many tears she cried, he wasn't coming back. She looked up, into the stormy sky, the rain in her face, spreading her arms wide.

"YOU SAID YOU'D NEVER LEAVE ME HERE ALONE!" she yelled, into the sky. "WHY? WHY DID YOU LEAVE ME DRACO?"

She broke down again, doubled over sobbing, her words were not heard. They were lost, lost in the rain.
