Chapter 5

The Yellow Jewfro

(Teddy's POV)

For the next few days, I was walking on air. I had always thought I couldn't survive without Victoire and I now knew just how right I was. She still occasionally caught me staring adoringly at her, even though I didn't mean to. It was like a magnet was pulling my eyes to her face, suddenly barren without its frame of hair. I didn't try to look at her, I tried to look anywhere but at her yet, somehow, I always seemed to end up admiring her perfect nose, her full, pink lips, her eyelashes, longer than any other girl in the school despite their lack of makeup.

When she caught me staring, she'd stopped saying anything. She simply grinned and made a rude hand gesture directed at me. I was too relived she wasn't angry anymore to care.

Five days after we made up, we were at lunch and I was throwing grapes for Victoire to catch in her mouth. She was insanely good or so it seemed to the rest of the table. What they didn't know was that she had her wand behind her back. Victoire had just caught her 16th consecutive grape when one of her roommates, Carly, sat down across from her. I'd rarely spoken to Carly but I had noticed her dark beauty, so different from Victoire's fair hair and blue eyes. The contrast was even more striking now with Carly's long cascade of black curls beside Victoire's new spikes.

"Hey Carly," Victoire said warily.

"Hey Victoire. I was wondering when you'd need me to touch up the new do," she said.

"Uh, Carly, it's been five days and I'm pretty sure my hair grows absurdly slowly anyways," Victoire answered, confused.

"Oh. OK, well, let me know," she said before turning to me. "So, who's your friend?" She batted her mascara-laden eyelashes. Even with a heavy coat of makeup, they had nothing on Victoire's.

"Teddy, Carly, Carly, Teddy," Victoire said before stuffing an entire of sausage into her mouth.

"Nice hair Teddy," she said. "I love the color! I'd love to cut it. I'm told I have somewhat of a gift with severing charms." She winked before batting her eyelashes once again.

"No thanks," I said. "I'm a Metamorphmagus."

"I don't think I know what that means," she said, gently biting the end of one long, perfectly manicured nail and cocking her head to the side while giving me a rather doe-eyed stare that made her come across as moronic. I looked at Victoire. She had one eyebrow raised but there was a threat in her fathomless eyes.

I gave myself a bright yellow jewfro for a few seconds before changing back to normal. Carly positively shrieked with laughter. "Oh Teddy!" she exclaimed. "You are so funny!" I looked back at Victoire. Her eyebrow seemed to be stuck but now her eyes looked murderous. This seemed odd. She'd always complained about Carly the least out of her roommates.

"Well," Victoire said, swallowing her sausage at last, "we'd better get to class."

"We still have 20 minuties," I said, confused.

"We need to go to the library."

"No we don't."

"Yes, we do," she insisted, glaring at me. "I was good talking to you Carly. See you in the dorm?"

"Yeah," Carly said faintly.

Once we were out of the Great Hall, I stopped. "What was that about?"

"Oh c'mon! She was coming on way too strong. It was embarrassing to watch. I had to end it."

"End what?"

"Her embarrassing attempts at flirting,"

"OK, why are you suddenly so hostile? I thought you liked Carly."

"I do like Carly and I'm not hostile," she said menacingly.

"If you say so..."

(Victoire's POV)

Fuck! I think I like him!
