Author's Note:
Sorry it took so long! I had major writer's block for like a week and then I sort of forgot about it. Thank my drama teacher! I wrote 2 chapters while procrastinating memorizing my monologue... Also, I have my friend beta read and she was too occupied with watching Buffy the Vampire slayer and iming people to get very far into this before our dorm mother came and made me go to my own room for lights out. GAH! boarding school! The gist of this long ramble is that there's probably some grammatical errors but I'll try and get her to read over it soon. I just wanted to put it up, hoping some of you didn't forget about this entirely! OK, I'm done now...

Chapter 4

Something Infinitely More Special

As I climbed the staircase to Teddy's dormitory, I thought of what I needed to say to him. He needed to know how I felt. He needed to know that I couldn't lose him as friend but that I couldn't be anything more than that.

"Hey Teddy," I said as I walked in, glad to see that he was alone.

He looked up, surprised and then his jaw dropped. "Your...your...h-h-..." he stuttered.

"Hair?" I asked. He stared but for a different reason then before. "You like?" I teased.

"Uh...yeah I like but Bill and Fleur are going to kill me for letting you!" he said, his eyes still as wide as dinner plates.

"I already sent them an owl with the hair I cut off and a note explaining. They know you had no idea it was coming," I reassured him.

"That's not going to stop your mother. Veela hair doesn't grow back you know."

"What?!" I exclaimed, panicked.

"Well, yours probably will, just slower than say, mine," he said.

"Your hair grows back in an instant Teddy," I reminded him. "It also recedes into your scalp and changes color immediately, whenever you so desire."

"True," he conceded.

"You're sure it will grow back?"

"Uh...I think so. You don't really have Veela hair anyway. I mean, it's not blonde is it?"

"It's a shade of blonde."

"But it's still got the Weasley red. Weasley hair grows."

"It'd damn well better," I grumbled.

There was an awkward silence for a moment before Teddy broke it.

"So, are we like, cool now?"

"Uh...that's what I wanted to talk to you about," I said nervously while sitting down next to him.

"Talking? That's a step up from jinxing I guess," he said, making a weak attempt at a joke.

"Ha-ha very funny."

"Look," he said, "I want you to know that I didn't try start liking you. I didn't wake up one morning and go, 'You know what sounds like a fun-filled activity? Noticing how gorgeous Victoire is for the first time! Cause I just adore being at the receiving end of her aunt's trademark Bat Bogie Hexes!' It just happened. I don't know why, and I'm not exactly glad it did but it's too late to go back now. But please please don't let raging teenage hormones jeopardize our friendship!"

"OK. I won't," I said biting my lower lip. Teddy looked relieved. "But..."

"There's always a 'but' isn't there?" he asked.

"But," I continued, "you need to know that the feeling is not mutual. I have a boyfriend who I'm quite content with and a waiting list of other guys and you have always been the one guy that's constant, hell, the one person that's constant and I don't think I could live without that. It could never work because we have something infinitely special than any teenage relationship and I would never risk it for anything and I know you would never intentionally risk it either."

He flipped over and looked into my eyes. His were his natural color today, a shade of hazel that looked like molten gold. "I will always be there. I promise." I smiled and watched his hair turn back to its normal shade of turquoise.
