A New Secretary

Chapter 1

I ain't seen the sun shine in three damn days.

She was back home. Ginny Weasley took in a big breath, letting the presence of everything she remembered sink in. The scenery, the busy chatter, and the people. Her trip had been hectic, even if it was only three days long, and it felt good to be home now. The hassles of life seemed to be to be tucked away and not known to her.

"Mr. Malfoy, Mr. Smith needs that account on my desk by three this afternoon, and remember that your new secretary is coming in this afternoon," John Macavich, Draco Malfoy's work associate informed, holding the knob of the half open door.

"I know. I know," Draco Malfoy said irritably, pounding a fist on his desk, "Now if maybe you'd give me a second to work without you annoying the hell out me, I could get this paper on Mr. Smith's desk at three."

"Yes sir," John answered, sounding weary, as he had done this many times before. "I'll let you be."

He walked out of the door, slamming it purposely on his way out. Draco sat back in his chair, examining the report he had already seen and looked over a million times before. He took a swig of a large glass filled with a murky brown liquid. The door of his office opened once again.

"Sir, I forgot to mention-"

John was cut off when Draco heaved his glass, still half full of liquid, at him. The door shut just as the glass hit it. The glass broke into shatters and the liquid flew out of the glass, splattering the walls. He didn't look up from the report.

"Reparo," Draco muttered lazily, pointing his wand at the broken glass. The shards flew up and landed, back in the shape of his glass, where it had been before. He would just leave the liquid for someone else to clean. He went into his drawer of his desk to get himself a quill to sign, setting the report down.

He rummaged through the top drawer.

"Never find a quill when you need one," he mumbled in an under tone to himself. He shut the drawer and began to look through another. "What the hell..."

He pulled out a heavy square object wrapped in thin, dusty brown paper. He stared, puzzled, at this. He never remembered this in his desk drawer, but then again, half the stuff in his desk he never used. He began to peel off the old, dilapidated paper, wondering what this could be.

Once the paper was off, he tossed the item aside and threw the paper into a wastebasket. It was only a picture of an old girlfriend he had had at Hogwarts when he was a boy. He never recalled a time when he put that picture in his work desk. He never even remembered a time when he still had the picture, and in one piece. He shrugged it off, and began to look for his quill again.

"Hi mum!" Ginny cried as she jogged to meet her mother half way on the dirt path that led to the Burrow. Mrs. Weasley embraced Ginny in a nice, long hug.

"Oh, dear, I haven't seen you for months. How was your trip?" she said into Ginny's vibrant red hair.

"Good. Hectic, but good."

Mrs. Weasley laughed softly and let Ginny go.

"I am so glad that you are staying here for a while! It'll be good to have another woman around the house!" She rubbed Ginny on the back and then started to take her stuff back up to her room. "Being stuck with your some of your brothers and your father isn't all that it is cut out to be." Mrs. Weasley laughed again, brushing some of her short, red hair out of her face, but Ginny knew that her mum loved to tend to her brothers and her dad.

"Mum?" Ginny called behind her, picking up more of her bags. "Have I gotten an owl from my boss yet?"

"No, dear." Ginny kicked some of the stones off the path as she walked up towards the house.

"Hmm, I should have. I owled him three days ago, before I left on the trip."

"Who is your new boss anyways?" Mrs. Weasley asked from the kitchen. Ginny entered the house.

"I'm not sure. And it's weird since no one will tell me. I don't know, but I'm going in this afternoon to get ready for my first day of work tomorrow. So, I will probably see him then."

"How professional," Mrs. Weasley said sarcastically. Ginny laughed quietly to herself at this and began to check and make sure she had everything.

"Mum, I am going to take my stuff up to my room. You go ahead and do what you want."

"You sure, Gin?"

"I'm sure mum."

Ginny picked up two of her suitcases and headed up towards her room.

Ginny walked past Percy's room and headed up towards the next landing where her room was located.

She opened the door to her room and found herself in a mass of yellow. Mrs. Weasley had insisted when Ginny was a child that her room be vivid and cheery to match her personality. She had splattered her walls with dazzling, pale yellow paint. Her bedspread was covered with sunflowers with a trim of light blue at the edges. There were a few other blue items in the room, the curtains and the sheets under the bedspread of the bed.

Ginny tossed her suitcases upon the bed and collapsed on it with a small groan. She remembered when she had graduated Hogwarts. She had promised herself never to come back home, promised that she would never come running home again, but here she was, home and staying for a good while.

Even though her room was nice and bright, outside it was dark and dreary. Ginny had read that it had been dark and cloudy for about three days now. Rain started to fall and pounded against Ginny's windows. There was a knock on her door.

"Come in," Ginny said, leaning against a wall, moving to a sitting position on her bed.

"Hey Gin." In came Fred and George with some of her bags. "You staying here now, eh?" They tossed her bags over by her on the bed.

"Yeah. My old flat became...unavailable," she replied, choosing her words carefully.

Truth be told, her old flat was with her fiancé, Joe, but she had come running home when she found out that he was having affair with another girl. She hugged her knees tightly against herself as if the would protect her from the hurt that she caused herself when she thought of Joe.

"Gin?"

"Hmm?" Ginny's thoughts vanished, and she was knocked out of her trance.

"We were just saying that you really should forget about that Joe guy."

"I wasn't thinking about him," Ginny lied. Everyone knew that she thought about Joe constantly now. Ginny began to twist with her necklace as she always did out of habit. The necklace had been in the Weasley family for centuries. It was a silver chain with a heart stringed on. The heart was bordered with diamonds, except the one spot where there was a sapphire.

Ginny looked up, Fred and George were just staring at her. She always seemed to get lost in her own thoughts; it was a terribly bad habit.

"Come on Gin," George said.

"Come on what?" Ginny asked, running her finger over a thread that had come loose in her bedspread.

"Ginny, Joe and you aren't together anymore, it's been about a month. You have to start getting out more."

Ginny looked up.

"I'm fine. It's not like I am just locking myself in my room and refusing meals."

"You might as well be," Fred muttered.

"I'm fine," Ginny stressed the word fine to get it through to them. "Just because I haven't been on a date lately, or because I haven't been out a lot at all doesn't mean that I am hopeless or anything."

Fred and George stared at Ginny.

"So, you two staying home too?"

Fred and George shrugged,

"We'll be staying for a while, just two days. Angelina wanted sometime alone for a weekend."

"The weekend is long over though."

Fred and George grinned.

"We know. See you later, Gin."

The exited the room, closing the door loudly like always.

She walked over to her window, pulled back the dark blue curtains and peered outside at the dark sky, looming with clouds.

"I'm home," she said dully. "Home, sweet home."

Ginny fumbled around her room, combing her hair hurriedly and splattering on some make up. She was a few minutes away from having to leave to head to off to her new office.

She had fallen asleep, and no one had bothered to wake her. She threw on a dark cloak over her white, button up shit and her knee length black skirt. She rushed into the bathroom and began to brush her teeth. She stumbled back into her room a few seconds later with her toothbrush still in her mouth and slid her feet into her shoes. She quickly made herself presentable and apparated to the ministry building in which she would be working.

"Can I get you anything? Water?"

"No tha-" John Macavick shoved a glass of water into Ginny's hands, not bothering to wait for a reply.

"Please sit down while I got alert him that you've arrived."

Ginny rested back in an overly stuffed armchair as the man, John, walked into a rather large office in front of her. She took a small sip of her water to ease her nervousness of meeting her new boss.

****

"Mr. Malfoy?"

"What do you want now, you moron?" Draco yelled. "Do you need to tell me again that this damn report is due? Because I know! You've told me fifty times already!"

He drank a shot of a new glass, filled with a clear substance.

"No sir," John said. "Your new secretary is here to meet you."

"Fine, send him in."

"Sir, it's a her."

"FINE! Whatever sex they are, send them in!" Draco said gruffly, showing John to get out with the waving of his hand. John eased out of the room and went to send Ginny in.

****

"Come on in, Miss," John said, walking back out of the office.

"Thank you," Ginny said and walked into the office, taking her glass of water with her. She walked over to the door, not noticing the sign outside on the door that read:

Mr. Draco Malfoy
