Chapter 3
A couple of days had passed and neither Lily nor James had spoke of the goings on in their free class, although it was all either of them thought about. James was trying to get over the embarrassment of basically telling Lily he fancied her and Lily was trying to convince herself that she didn't fancy James. Another thing Lily couldn't get off her mind was what James was going to say before he broke off. It was driving her crazy, things like that always did and so one night when she returned from the library she decided she was going to ask him about it.
She walked down the corridor carrying a mountain of books stacked high, it had been such a struggle to get all the way up to the tower and she was inwardly congratulating herself for getting this far. When low and behold she opened the door, went head over heels, scattered the books everywhere and knocked herself unconscious in the process. James leapt to his feet and at first burst out laughing but then realised what had happened. He felt as awkward as two left feet, what was he to do?
"Lily, em Lily can you hear me?" said James in a very condescending tone. "O course she can't hear you, she's unconscious you fool!" he thought to himself.
Not knowing what else to he heaved her over his shoulder and began to carry her to the hospital wing. Madam Pomfrey gave her a bed and told James to wait with her until she woke up, so she would see a friendly face and not be alarmed. James held her hand to comfort her and kissed her on the head.
"Sweet dreams Lily," he whispered. A couple of hours had passed and James had conked out on the chair beside the bed.
The next morning Lily woke up with a splitting headache and feeling very confused, the last thing she remembered was walking through the door of the common room. She sat up in her bed trying to work out how she got in the hospital wing, she knew that much as she was very clumsy and somehow always ended up here at least once a week.
"O good! You're up!" exclaimed Madam Pomfrey
"How did I?" Lily was cut off as Madam Pomfrey shoved some disgusting medicine down her throat.
"Ugh! What is that?"
"O it's a mixture, my own home brew of course." Madam Pomfrey had a smug expression on her face.
"It's lovely," lied Lily, "What happened to me? How did I end up here again?"
"It's all thanks to that young boy there," She pointed at James who was still fast asleep on the chair. Lily's expression was priceless.
"Him?" she said disbelievingly
"Yes him. He carried you all the way from the head boy and girl tower after you fell and knocked yourself unconscious. He was very concerned about you."
Lily's face went beetroot, first of all she fell in front of James Potter and second he had to carry her. What must he think of her now? What if she was too heavy for him? The shame of it all. Just as Lily was about to sneak off and hopefully be swallowed up by the ground, James woke up.
"Lily!" he said groggily, "Are you okay?"
"Yes I'm fine thanks," Lily said cringing, "I'm just going to die now so if you'll excuse me." She stepped out of the bed at the side James was sitting at and her legs give way. James caught her before she hit the ground.
"Are you sure you're okay?"
Lily was speechless; she stood there limp in his arms and couldn't help staring in to his eyes. They were the deepest blue, you could fall in to and she couldn't understand why she hadn't noticed before. Madam Pomfrey rushed over to help.
"No, no, no young lady!" she shouted, "You'll have to stay for a while longer, until those sea legs wear off. Now back in to bed you go."
The gaze was broke by her ranting and raving, Lily was less than pleased as this was the moment she realised she liked James Potter.
"Well," he said awkwardly, "I'm going to head on down to the common room and get freshened up."
"Yeh, that's fine. Em thanks and see you later, if I'm allowed out."
"You will not be allowed out so if Mister Potter wants to see you he will have to come back up here." Shouted Madam Pomfrey from the opposite bed.
"You don't have to, you're probably busy."
"No, I'll be here. If you want me to."
"Yeh, I'd like that."
They both smiled at each other and James walked off, looking back every couple of seconds. Lily's heart was racing and she had butterflies in her stomach. This was the first time she was looking forward to seeing James Potter.
