James' Mission

James' Mission

It was the start of James Potter's seventh year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He had made Head Boy, he was captain of the Griffindor quiddtich team and seemed the most popular boy in school but one thing was missing. In all his years at Hogwarts James had never had a proper girlfriend - don't get me wrong he had plenty of offers but nothing serious. This year is going to be different, he told himself confidently.

"You all right, James? You're kind of scaring me with that creepy grin!" exclaimed Peter who was scared of his own shadow.

"Sorry, yeah I'm fine," said James, snapping out of his trance. "Hey who made Head Girl this year?"

"Oooo, none other than the lovely Lily Evans!" replied Sirius with a smug grin in his face, mainly because he had got it in to his head she somehow fancied him.

"Lily Evans!" shouted James, jumping forward in his seat. "O well that's fine," said James, now sliding down in his chair, embarrassed of his over-enthusiasm.

"More like she's fine! Just think the two of you shacked up, all alone in that tower," said Remus with one hand around James's neck and the other in the air trying to set the scene. "Who knows what you'll get up to!"

"Not a lot!" shouted Sirius from the portrait hole. "Lily hates you! Anyway come on we're missing breakfast."

The others followed Sirius out, chatting idly as they walked but James was deep in thought. How will I get Lily to like me? She has hated me for seven years all because of that one incident.......

James boarded the boat for the crossing to Hogwarts; it was his first year and he was so excited! He had jumped in to a boat with a boy he had never seen before, Sirius, who turned out to be one of his best friends. It was then he saw herlike some kind of vision from above - Lily Evans gliding to his boat.

"Excuse me but is there any room left on this boat? It's just all the others are full."

James stood with his mouth slightly open, gaping at Lily. Sirius saw the love-struck boy in dire need of help and intervened.

"Hi there! Did ya say you need a boat?

"O, well yes I did, if it isn't too much trouble."

"No trouble at all, there's plenty of room for a slim girl like you, and sorry I didn't catch your name." Sirius had always been confident, especially with the girls. He helped Lily on to the boat while James stood in the same spot as before.

"Lily Evans, pleased to meet you," she said as she offered a friendly handshake.

"Sirius Black, pleased to meet you too, I'd introduce you to this boy here but I don't even know his name myself!"

She turned to James still offering a handshake. He was so nervous; he had never met such a beautiful girl who actually acknowledged him. Without even feeling himself do it, James leaned forward to shake her hand but while doing so let his wand drop to the floor of the boat. Green sparks went shooting in to the air which startled Lily, causing her to fall back and into the water. From that day on Lily was called Water lily by all of the Sytherins and she had never forgave James for it.

"Come on James, my belly thinks my throat's cut!" barked Sirius in the most canine tone James had ever heard. He followed the rest to the Great hall with Lily still on his mind.
