Chapter 1: Sudden Inspirations
Ginny locked up their flat, then Apparated directly to her brother's house in the countryside near London. She knocked on the door and waited impatiently for only a second before knocking again. It took Ron a full two minutes to open the door, Ginny having pounded on it practically the whole time. Ron saw his sister on the doorstep, eyes streaming tears and a look of concern overtook his features. He took her by the arm and led her into the house as he asked, "What's wrong, Gin?"
"They - they took him," sobbed Ginny as she sat down on the couch in Ron's living room. "I just watched them take him. There was nothing I could do!"
"Who took who?" asked Ron gently, sitting down opposite her and looking her in the eye.
"They took D-draco! The Death Eaters took him!" Ginny forced out before she broke down in another fit of tears.
In her current state, Ginny did notice that Hermione had come into the room until her brother's wife had embraced her in a hug. Ron moved over to the fireplace and contacted his father, the Minister of Magic Albus Dumbledore and Harry Potter.
After a brief discussion it was decided that Ginny would stay at Harry's flat owning to the fact that one of Ron and Hermione's daughters, Abby, was sick with the measles and they didn't want Ginny to catch it. No matter how much Ron insisted that it would only take a simple potion and a few days to cure it, Hermione hung steadfastly to her Muggle upbringing and refused to use magic to cure illness unless it was life-threatening.
Ginny Apparated just outside Harry's flat and the door was immediately opened by Harry. Harry looked much the same as he had in school. His unruly black hair still stuck up all over the place and didn't quite manage to cover up the lightening bolt scar on his forehead, the souvenir of his first encounter with Voldemort.
"Ginny," said Harry, enveloping her in a hug. "How are you holding up?"
"Ok," said Ginny lightly, knowing that her red and puffy eyes were clear evidence of the contrary.
Harry led her through his flat to his guest room. He got out clean sheets and made up the bed for her. Before he left he gave her another hug and looked her in the eyes saying, "Everything will be alright. I promise."
After Harry left, Ginny paced listlessly for awhile, then decided to try and get some rest. She got ready for bed and turned off the lamp that was on the bedside table and curled up and cried. Somewhere in the disjointed thoughts that ran through her grief stricken mind something clicked.
Death Eaters, thought Ginny. Death Eaters took my husband. We just captured some Death Eaters after that raid three nights ago.
Ginny sat up in the dark room, her brain suddenly working properly and furiously again. Ten minutes later she had worked out the details of her plan. Now all she had to do was get Harry to agree to help her.
