Broken

He never really was a happy person. His father left his mother when he was 5 years old, and his mother ended up with the weight of taking care of her two children, a 4 year-old daughter and a 5 year-old son. Now that his mother carried the burden he had to take care of his sister Sarai. His mother worked 8 hour days to keep food on the table, yet they still moved from their old house to a four room one.

While his mum was at work he took care of Sarai, telling her stories of bravery and triumph. Of the founders of Hogwarts and other great wizards. Of Albus Dumbledore who was the headmaster of the school he was go to. Every time she would sit next to him and listen intently as he wove his story.

But, when he turned 11 he had to go away to Hogwarts, leaving his sister with some friends while his mother worked. He was glad to be free, but the truth was that he would never be free. His bindings became tighter when he arrived at the school.

Kids at school teased him because of his rather large nose and greasy hair. But four especially sought him out. They hexed him and turned him upside down; hanging him in empty air with spells they had learned. Few stood up for him and the ones that did, he hated anyway.

That year when he returned home for the summer Sarai asked him how smart and talented he was. And begged him to tell stories how he helped others like the people in the books she read. He was her hero, yet he still lied. He told her what she wanted to hear, not knowing it may ruin everything.

Three months later Sarai joined her big brother on the train to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. As the Sorting Hat was placed on her head he prayed she was sorted into Ravenclaw where she would be safer. For as her name was called to be sorted he saw the looks on the faces, of the people he hated. He has a sister... someone new to play with.

"RAVENCLAW!" the hat shouted, and he sighed with great relief. She would be safe but sadly she never would be.

As Sarai walked through the halls one day, she looked out to the court yard where there was a crowd. She pushed her way through and found her brother hanging upside down, and a black haired boy laughing loudly. Her heart sank... he had lied to her! About everything... he wasn't the person she thought he was. Not the person he claimed he was. Sarai ran away, knowing she couldn't beat the bullies.

Tears falling she pushed through the crowds. And he saw her, disappointed and running away. He fought harder to get away and finally he did. But it was too late, she was gone.

After that she never really talked to him. When Sarai saw her brother she said a curt hello or just kept walking with her friends. Sarai immersed herself in her school work to escape the betrayal. Both brother and sister were equally hurt.

But through the years he had become darker in his ways because of what his sister had seen. So dark he began studying the Dark Arts. Why you may ask, he chose that subject? Because his best friend, the one he trusted most told him to, his friend that he had met on the first day of school because he was a Head Boy, the friend that had helped him out through his studies in the common room. But even though that friend never seemed to be around when he needed him most, he still trusted him.

Days turned into months, and months to years. Both brother and sister graduated from Hogwarts and the day after graduation his friend called to him, "Come to my house." He said, so he did, and that day he joined the most sinister and evil person alive to that day to once again cover his pain. He joined the Dark Lord. He was branded with his lord's mark and his bindings became tighter once again.

Then even farther into the future, just months before one of the people who bullied him was accused, he got word from his mother. Sarai had been murdered on the Dark Lord's order, by none other then his most trusted friend. His sister was gone, and so was his life and it was his entire fault.

He then knew that he didn't belong with such people. But as he walked out the door Aurors surrounded him, wands pointed at his heart. He was taken in but then released by his old Headmaster. But still murder clouded his mind. His heart hardened by his most trusted friend. He turned his back on the world.

Severus Snape never trusted anyone but himself and his releaser from that day on. And every year, on the 22nd of November, he goes to Sarai's grave. He tells her dead spirit what is happening in the world surrounding him. And every time before he leaves, he places a small black rose on her grave stone.

But still he goes on. And still, he lives his life. His bindings restricting him, and suffocating him with every move he makes. He lets no one see his fear, his sorrow, and his anguish. He is hollow.

The End
