Falling
It had been a month since Hermione had stopped talking to Harry and she hadn't relented. He couldn't get anything out of her. Not so much as a 'hello' or a 'please pass the chicken.' And to top it all off their teachers have been giving more homework then ever before.
They were all sitting in the common room attempting to finish a report for their history of magic class. Ron was next to Hermione and Harry was as far away from them as he could get.
Ron threw down his quill and slumped back into his chair.
Harry looked over at Ron and saw how depressed he looked. So he got up and sat in a chair close to them. (The only chair that was close but not too close was 2 chairs over from Hermione.)
"Ron, what's the matter?"
"Nothing." He got up and sat between Harry and Hermione. Harry had gone back to his homework already.
"It's you two," he said suddenly. They both looked at him.
"What about us?" Hermione asked politely.
"Yeah, Ron. What about us?" Harry asked.
"I can't stand to be near you two anymore. If you don't start talking to each other again I might go insane."
"Well, I'm not the one who stopped talking. It was her." Harry said pointing his finger at Hermione.
"I'm not the one who stopped talking first. If you had talked to me before that argument maybe this wouldn't have been such a problem in the first place!" She screamed. A couple of people in the common room looked over at them.
"Hermione, honey, calm down people are staring at us," Ron said gently.
"Let them stare," she snarled. But her attention was now on Harry.
Harry had stood up quickly and was stalking over to Hermione anger coursing through him and leaned right into her face. She tried to back up but she was already leaning back as far as she could.
"My fault? This was never my fault and you know it," he said venomously. He slowly turned around and walked back to his seat. Leaving Hermione very rattled. Realizing she'd been holding her breath sighed in relief.
Ron went over next to Harry and sat on the footstool in front of him. He didn't speak for a few minutes.
"Harry?"
"What?" Harry snapped at him. He really wasn't in the mood to be bothered by stupid questions.
"What's the matter? And don't give me the answer I gave you I know you better then that." Harry stared at him a moment trying to figure out a way to give Ron a suitable answer that was the truth but wasn't.
"We had an argument nothing more nothing less." He hoped Ron wouldn't question him further on the subject and much to his relief Ron went back to his seat. Harry stood up and started walking towards the stairs.
"Where are you going?" Hermione asked.
"Why do you care where I go?" He asked.
Angry tears were streaming down her cheeks. She just shook her head, wiped away the tears on her cheeks and went back to her homework. Harry was seriously considering going over to her to make sure she was okay but thought better of it and went up to the boy's dormitory.
About 30 minutes later he heard the door open slowly. He sat up in his bed and saw Ron standing in the doorway.
"Ron?" Harry asked incredulously. Ron came over to Harry's bed and sat on the end of it.
"Harry, it's just me and you now. You can trust me. Tell me what's wrong?"
Harry just sighed. He couldn't tell Ron, he couldn't afford to lose another friend.
"Ron you'd hate me forever if I told you."
"Obviously you don't know me very well do you?"
"No." He shook his head. "I know you too well."
"Oh come on Harry. Just tell me," Ron whined.
"Well, I'll tell you but you won't like it. So you had fair warning. I want you to swear you won't desert me after I tell you this."
"I swear." Ron held up his hand like a Boy Scout. "Tell me why Hermione and you have stopped talking."
"Ok. Do you remember that day at Diagon Alley?"
"Yes. Why?" Ron asked skeptically.
"You might not have noticed but Hermione was watching you leave after you told me to get lost."
"No, I didn't notice."
"Didn't think you did," he said. "Well, even after you were gone she wouldn't move she just stood there like a statue. And I want you to keep in mind that I did try everything in my power to make her move before I tell you the rest."
"Ok." Ron was wondering if there was going to be a point to this story.
"I did eventually get her to move. But how I did it you won't like."
"Tell me Harry how did you get her to move."
"I kissed her," he mumbled.
"What did you just say? Because I thought you just said you kissed her."
"I did," Harry said quietly. He was waiting for Ron to say something anything. He looked over at Ron.
"You kissed my girlfriend?" Ron said even quieter then Harry. "I hate you. I thought I could trust you. You are my best friend. I thought better of you." Ron got up and walked towards the door.
"Ron. Wait!" Harry hollered. Ron froze right at the door.
"Yeah. What do you want?"
"I'm sorry."
"That's nice maybe in a few weeks I can forgive you." With that he walked out the door and slammed it behind him. Harry sat stunned on his bed.
"Oh god," he whispered. "What have I done?"
