Wanted: Someone Who Cares
Chapter 1
More Than Just a Glance
The Burrow, Ten Years Ago.........
"Mum! Mum! M-" There was a loud crash, a small red hair boy of about nine tumbled down a thin spiral staircase. His mother rushed toward him with a wooden spoon in her hand.
"Percy! Are you all right?" she asked. The boy stood up.
"Mum! Fred.....George.....someone stole my glasses!" Percy wailed to a flowerpot five feet from his mother. She shook her head and raised a wand, which she had pulled from the inside of her robes.
"Accio Glasses!" she shouted, pointing down the long hallway. A pair of horn-rimmed glasses came whizzing toward her, with another red hair boy attached, slightly younger, but his hair as red as Percy's. Their mother pulled the boy off. "George, how many times have I told you not to steal your brother's glasses?"
"'Bout ten. But I didn't steal them this time, honest!" said the seven-year-old. "Fred did!"
"Fred? FRED! GET IN HERE!" shouted their mother. A mirror copy of George stepped into the hallway.
"Sorry Mum," he said. Their mother shook her head, scolded at her son, and handed the rather thick glasses back to Percy. He put them on and looked at Fred, who was obviously George's twin, and his face grew angry.
"Fred! I knew it was you! Just wait till I get my wand! Then I'll do the Body-Bind curse on you like Mum did to Dad when he came home with that red thing on his neck-"
"All right, that's enough," their mother interrupted, red in the face. "Go find your brother and sister and play." The three brothers left, and their mother shook her head once more, laughed at herself, and went back into the kitchen.
***
When the three boys entered the living room, they found two small children, both with red hair, playing with blocks. The older one, a boy, was trying to build a tower. However, as soon as he got to around four blocks up, his little sister would knock it down. The tower came to a splendid crash just as Percy, Fred and George entered.
"Ginny!" the boy cried as his tower fell. Ginny just gave him an innocent smile and gave a wave at her brothers who had just entered. The boy also turned toward his older siblings. "Percy," he whined the boy. "Ginny keeps knocking down Hogwarts!"
"Cut her slack Ron, you weren't an angel at four either," said Fred as he crossed the room to sit on the couch, slapping Ron's head on the way.
"Well neither were you!" shouted Ron.
"How would you know, you weren't alive!" replied Fred. They were just about to start what looked like a very promising fight when Percy stepped between them.
"I have an idea," he said. "Let's play Ministry of Magic!" His siblings, even little Ginny, groaned. "What?" said Percy in a clue-less way.
"That's the most boring game in the world," said Fred.
"We never have any fun," complained Ron. Percy frowned.
"Well, it's my turn to pick and this is what I want to play. OK, I'm the Minister of Magic, 'cause I got to practice for when I grow up. Ron, you're the head of the Boring Department. George, you're the head of the More Boring Department. Fred, you're the head of the Most Boring Department. Ginny-"
"I know, I know, I'm the secralady."
"It's secreTARY Ginny."
"Whatever."
Percy knelt down behind a coffee table, with Ginny next to him. Ron, Fred, and George placed themselves in random places around the room. "Bring in the complaints!" he shouted. George stepped up.
"More Boring Department's too exciting," said George in a flat tone. Percy clapped his hands.
"Now, we can't have that! Ginny!" he shouted and pointed to his sister. "Make the More Boring Department more boring, but take care that it's not more boring than the Most Boring Department."
"Got it," said Ginny. She grabbed her pencil and pad of paper, which she had pulled from the side table drawer, and scribbled down on it. Since she couldn't even write her own name, that was a pretty stupid job to give her, but secretaries are stereotypical to be girls, so Percy thought that was the perfect part for her. They were just about to continue when their mother called them from the kitchen.
"Percy! Fred! George! Ron! Ginny! Dinner!"
***
"Daddy!" cried Ginny as soon as the five siblings entered the kitchen. A red hair man was there, and Ginny proceeded to fling herself upon him. Ron gave him a huge hug too, but the three oldest helped their mother set the table. Once the table was set, and the dish dropped by George was repaired, the family of seven sat down at the nine-chaired table. Ginny had forgotten all silverware and was shoving her mashed potatoes into her mouth with her hands. While the rest of the family resumed eating with their forks, spoons, and, in the case of the adults, knives, George asked "Mum, can we take the old kitchen cabinets and go sledding tomorrow?" Even though it was June, there was a hill behind the Weasley's house that was so steep that the wild grass below a sliding wooden cabinet was perfect for sledding. All five children - even Ginny -loved to do so, and they all looked up at their parents expectantly.
"No," said Mr. Weasley. The children protested.
"But Mum! We haven't been in ages!"
"We can leave Ron and Ginny home if they're too young!"
"I am not too young! I'm five! Please Daddy!"
"It's not fair! It's the law!"
"Shwshooka!" The last one was from Ginny of course, who had just filled herself with another helping of potatoes and all sounds from her mouth were muffled. The arguments were about to go on when Mrs. Weasley held up her hand and silenced her children.
"You will not be able to go sledding tomorrow," she said calmly. "Because we are going to London to pick up Bill and Charlie from school." At this the children brightened.
"You mean, we're all old enough to go?" asked Fred excitingly. His mother nodded.
"But I thought you wanted to wait till Ginny was six?" wondered George.
"We feel that we've kept you kids too long. We know you've always wanted to go, and we feel Ginny is a big girl now," said their mother. At this, Ginny, who had been absentmindedly blowing a spit bubble, smiled and popped it.
"I can't wait to see the Hogwarts Express!" said George.
"I can't wait to hear about Charlie playing Quidditch!" said Ron. "Mum, do you think this summer we could play some games if we shared a broom or two? Me and Charlie and Fred and George and maybe Bill?"
"Charlie and Fred and George and maybe Bill and I Ron," said their mother. "And we only have one broom, that's Charlie's."
"I have my own broom!" said Ron.
"That's a toy," said Percy. "I can't wait till I can have something interesting to read again. Bill said in his last letter, that he would bring home a bag of Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans, and that if I could read his entire potions book by the time he's done with his Transfiguration essay, I can have the whole bag!" His siblings gasped.
"A whole bag, to keep?" asked Ginny in awe. Percy nodded smugly. "Wow."
"I bet we all can't wait till tomorrow," said Mrs. Weasley. She caught her husband's eye and he gave her a nod. Ron was the only one who saw this however, for his brothers and sister were too busy conversing over Percy's possibly won treat, and if there was such thing a booger bean. Ron joined in the conversation, and if only he had known what that glance and nod had meant, he would possibly have been able to save himself and his siblings all whole great deal of pain, trouble, and hurt.
