Make A Change

Grew up in a small town
And when the rain would fall down
I just stared out my window
Dreaming of a could-be
And if I'd end up happy
I would pray (I would pray)

Lily sat at the window ledge of the Gryffindor common room staring into space. She would have gone outside except for the fact it was down pouring so badly everyone was being advised to stay inside. She sighed. As she started to slide off the ledge to go over to the couch to read, something caught her eye. It appeared someone was flying in the Quidditch stadium. "Does anyone know who would be flying in this awful weather?" she asked, not really expecting an answer.

She took a seat on an empty couch and began to read. It was only natural then, that she was surprised when she heard Sirius say, "Who else?"

Trying not to reach out
But when I'd try to speak out
Felt like no one could hear me
Wanted to belong here
But something felt so wrong here
So I pray (I would pray)
I could breakaway

Lily nearly dropped her book in shock. "No...you've got to be kidding!" she said in disbelief as she stood up. "I mean, we've all been advised to stay in."

"Yeah...advised," Sirius said sarcastically, not once looking up from his Quidditch magazine. "James will do just as he pleases, unless he's bound and locked up. You, more than anyone, should know that!" Black chuckled, and then quickly composed himself. Lily glared at him as she grabbed her cloak and headed toward the door.

"Where are you going?" Sirius asked her.

"To make James come in before he loses points for Gryffindor," she replied, as she exited the room.

"Sure..." he returned, with a sly, all-knowing nod.

I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly
I'll do what it takes til' I touch the sky
I'll make a wish
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway
Out of the darkness and into the sun
But I won't forget all the ones that I loved
I'll take a risk
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway

Lily sighed, and as she opened the entrance hall doors, raindrops hit her face. She started making her way across the castle lawn, which was an adventure in itself. It had rained so much that large ponds and puddles were forming, making the ground soggy. Lily's feet seemed to be getting stuck in the mud at least every five feet. "When I get hold of him..." she mumbled to herself. She pulled her cloak closer around her. After a time, she finally made it to the Quidditch field, and as she looked up, she could still see James flying carelessly about. She waved her arms madly trying to attract his attention. Her efforts proved fruitless, for James was much too focused on the broom to notice anything else. Lily gave a loud, annoying sigh as she started climbing up the bleacher stairs. Soon, her robes were soaked and felt as if they weighed a hundred extra pounds.

Wanna feel the warm breeze
Sleep under a palm tree
Feel the rush of the ocean
Get onboard a fast train
Travel on a jet plane, far away (I will)
And breakaway

After she finally made it to the top, she realized the weather conditions were far worse than they had been below. Again, she waved her arms to attract his attention, but it still didn't work. She shivered as a gust of wind and rain struck her body. Lily then began shouting his name, not expecting that to work either. Much to her surprise, however, James landed in front of her only moments later. "What are you doing out here, Evans? It's raining!" Those were the first words out of his mouth? She just looked at him as if she wanted to kill him right where he stood.

"Really? I hadn't noticed," she returned, irritated.

James grumbled, "Look Lily, I don't feel like playing games."

That's when Lily lost it "Games? You think I'm playing games when I come out here in the pouring rain?" she said through chattering teeth.

"Yes!" He assured her. "And it all goes back to the fact you like me!"

She groaned. "Not this again, Potter!"

"Then, why?" He asked. Lily snorted in response. "No, seriously, I want to know why? Why would you come out here in the pouring rain to yell at me, and, I'm guessing now, tell me to return to school? Why didn't you just let a teacher come out here to get me and give me detention?"

"Well, I didn't want our House to lose points," she said defensively.

"Give me a break, Evans. You and I both know that's not true."

"It is," she protested, turning her back toward him in annoyance. Then, "Fine, Potter," she said, turning to face him again. "I'll humor you. I DID come out here because I am passionately in love with you and I don't want you to get into trouble. NOW, will you please come inside?"

"No!"

Buildings with a hundred floors
Swinging around wild indoors
Maybe I don't know where they'll take me but
Gotta keep moving on, moving on
Fly away, breakaway

Lily looked at him in shock "Why?" she whined.

"Because I want something in return," he informed her, a slight grin crossing his face. Lily recognized that grin immediately.

"NO! NO! Absolutelynot!" She backed away from him, pointing her finger.

"Why?" he pressed. I mean, if you're so 'passionately in love with me', you should be willing to do something to prove it."

"Argh!" Lily screamed, turning her back to him yet again.

"See? This is what I mean by games," James told her, suddenly becoming serious. "Don't say things you don't mean." He walked toward her. She sighed, looking over the bleacher's edge. The rain was still coming down just as heavily.

"Fine then, I DO like you, but I don't LOVE you." James moved closer to her. The rain began tapering off, and the sun peeked through the clouds.

I'll spread my wings
And I'll learn how to fly
Though it's not easy to tell you goodbye
I gotta take a risk
Take chance
Make a change
And breakaway

"And furthermore, I don't want to go out on a date with you, but I'm willing to spend some more time with you and get to know you." Her voice began shaking, and she pretended to study the horizon.

Placing his hand under her chin, he turned her face to look at him. "That's all I wanted to hear." He leaned in a bit.

"HA! Pay up Sirius," Remus said from their hidden location under the bleachers.

"How did you predict that?" Sirius asked him, in complete shock.
