Chapter 1: An Unexpected Visitor
"Harry! Go! Run! Get away!"
"No!"
"The dementors aren't that tough. I can take them! Go!"
"I can't n-"
Harry was shoved away by Ron and Hermione. Harry watched in agony as Sirius stood before one hundred dementors. The first dementor stepped forward, lowered his hood, lifted Sirius off the ground, and-
"Sirius!" Harry sat up in bed almost falling out.
Harry had been having these kinds of dreams ever since the end of his third year at Hogwarts. He hadn't heard from his godfather since he and Hermione helped him escape Hogwarts to avoid going back to Azkaban. Harry was afraid that the dementors might have actually caught him.
"I wish he would write me, of course, I can't write him if I don't have Hedwig."
Harry had sent Hedwig to deliver some letters to Hermione and Ron, and she still hadn't come back. Just then, Hedwig flew in and dropped something on the floor. Hedwig then flew around Harry's head, knocking him out of bed.
"Hedwig what was that-"
Harry stopped as he saw something move around on the floor. Harry slowly crawled over to where he saw the object move. As he moved he saw it scurry and run under his hat. Harry grabbed Ron's old rat cage, lifted up the hat, and smashed it down. He tipped it back over and locked the cage shut. Turning on the light, he looked inside to see what it was. For a moment, Harry was relieved to see it was only a rat, but he then noticed that this rat was missing a right toe.
"Your Pettigrew! I've got you! You will never get away from us again, there is no escaping now!"
Harry grabbed his quill and began to write to Ron.
Ron,
Hedwig brought me back something that you will
not believe, it's Scabbers! I have him in your old rat
cage. Tell your dad immediately about everything that
happened last year. This is our last chance to make sure
Sirius can come home. Write back soon.
Harry
Harry shoved the parchment into the loop on Hedwig's leg and sent her off. Harry walked over to the cage where Pettigrew was and looked inside.
"You're not getting away this time, Pettigrew. You're trapped, and I'm not letting you go anywhere."
Three days passed and still no reply from Ron. Harry kept Pettigrew in the cage at all times, he didn't even open it to feed him, he had to feed and water him through the sides where the bars were. As Harry was about to go down to dinner with the Dursleys, Hedwig flew in the window.
"Hedwig! Did he send anything, well?!"
Hedwig shoved her leg out triumphantly to show that she had a reply. He took the parchment off her leg, gave her a treat, and sat down to read the letter.
Harry,
I can't believe that you found Scabbers! That is
really great! I told my dad about everything last year
and explained how Sirius had to be innocent. Dad said
that if you can prove that Pettigrew is still alive, than
Sirius's charges may be dropped. I sure hope this works.
Write to Sirius and tell him all about it. My dad also
said that they were going to re-open Sirius's case from
from the ministry! This just might work, see you at
school soon!
Ron
Harry wrote immediately to Sirius and Hermione. He sent Hedwig on a long journey. Harry was so excited, his godfather, Sirius, had been accused of killing thirteen people in a major blast of unreal magic. Of course, Pettigrew was the one that killed the other twelve, and staged his own death in order to frame Sirius. Every time Harry thought of how Pettigrew told Voldermort where his family was hiding, and how he framed Sirius, he wanted to smash the box into millions of pieces, but he knew it was his only proof of Sirius's innocence. So he didn't.
Harry left to go to dinner, only hoping that Hedwig would return very soon, with a reply from Sirius and Hermione.
