********************************
Spend all your time waiting for that second chance
For the break that will make it okay
There's always some reason to feel not good enough
And it's hard at the end of the day
"Draco...I miss you. I miss you so much, my angel."
Tears were falling from the eyes of the boy-who-lived as he fidgeted with the plain white-gold ring he had placed as a pendant on his engagement necklace. He closed his palm around it, brought it close to his lips, and kissed it, then let it fall to its customary spot, close to his heart.
"It has been twenty years, Draco, everyday I would come here and wait. Wait for the time that you would hear me, hear my one and only plea to you...."
Harry sat in silence. The only sound in that silent night was his ragged breathing and choked sobs.
"All I ask of you is to slip our ring to my finger, Draco," he whispered to the wind. He stood up and slowly walked away from the grave, away from the cemetery. Still, even after all these years, his tears never went dry whenever he remembered.
I need some distraction, oh beautiful release
Memories seep from my veins.
Then maybe empty, weightless and maybe
I'll find some peace tonight
>flashback<
"All my life, without a doubt, I give you all my life."
Harry never ceased to be amazed by Draco's knowledge of muggle songs. Draco was hugging him from the back, still singing and giving Harry light kisses on the neck in between verses. Draco moved to face Harry, bringing them to a green-gray gaze.
"Harry."
"Yes, Angel?"
"Angel? I like that." Draco smiled widely.
"I know." Harry tried not to laugh.
"I love you."
"I love you too."
"Harry, marry me?"
"Draco?"
"Yes, Harry. I can't live another minute without being sure that we will be spending the rest of our lives and beyond together. Call me selfish, but I'd rather be selfish than loose you."
"I love you being selfish."
"So?"
"Yes, my angel, I'll marry you!"
Draco brought out a necklace and placed it around Harry's neck, kissing him with all the passion he possessed.
"Bedroom?" Draco asked teasingly.
"Should we wait till we get married?" Harry asked with seriousness in his voice.
"Okay. It's not as if we haven't done it before. But okay."
Draco turned his back to Harry and slowly walked towards their room. Harry being devious himself, launched himself so that he was now riding on Draco's back.
"Carry me?"
"Sure will!"
And the night was once again a silent and blind witness of the two love filled souls in that bedroom.
In just two weeks, they were able to prepare for their wedding. In front of all their friends and loved ones, they recited their vows to each other.
"Draco, my angel.
You are the light that is leading me to the place where I find peace again.
You are the strength that keeps me walking.
You are the hope that keeps me trusting.
You are the life to my soul.
You are my purpose.
You are my everything.
I have carved your name on my heart, and there you will always stay. And as long as my heart beats, it will only beat and call your name forever and more."
Harry, beaming with pride and love, slipped their wedding ring unto Draco's slim finger. Once fitted, his thumb gently rubbed Draco's hands, and he mouthed 'I love you', to which the other answered lovingly.
"Harry, my beloved.
How can I stand here with you and not be moved by you?
Would you tell me how it could be any better than this?
You calm the storms. You give me rest.
You hold me in your hand.
You never let me fall.
Now it is my turn to care for you and to not let you fall. I will never leave you. I will always stay by your side. You are my heart. You are my home."
Just as Draco was about to slip the ring to Harry's finger, out from nowhere a black-cloaked figure with hood appeared behind Draco's back and cursed him with the worst of the unforgivables, killing Draco instantly. His lifeless body lay on Harry's feet as Harry was too stunned to do anything but let tears fall from his eyes.
>end flash back<
"Please Draco, all I ask of you is to slip our ring to my finger," Harry whispered once more.
In the arms of an angel fly away from here
From this dark, cold heated room and endlessness that you fear
You are pulled in the silent wreckage of your reverie
You're in the arms of an angel, may you find some comfort here
During the late nights, Harry would have nightmares. Then one night, he was calling the name of his angel, and as if the heavens heard him, flying from up above, an angel appeared and wrapped his arms and wings around him. Draco breathed on him and kissed his forehead. Harry unconsciously embraced the hands that held him.
"Harry there will come a time that I will slip that ring on your finger, but that time is not now. Remember that I have not forgotten my vows. You may not see me, but I am with you." Draco slowly disappeared from Harry's embrace.
"Draco, I will never forget," Harry whispered in his sleep.
From then on, Harry never had any sleepless nights or nightmares, because he knew that his angel would always be right beside him.
So tired of the straight line and every where you turn
There are vultures and thieves at your back
The storms keeps twisting, you keep on building the lies
That make up for all that you lack
During the passing years, Harry lived his life to the fullest, but he never fell in love again. With his friends supporting him, he was able to move on and have his own business. When he retired, he passed his business to his oldest friend's family.
Harry closed the door of his room, walked past the foot of his bed, and opened the windows, shivering at the cold wind blowing in. He sat at the foot of his four-poster king sized bed and sighed.
"Draco, my angel, it's been too long now. I'm old and gray. I love you...I love you," he whispered like a mantra.
It don't make a difference, escaping one last time
It's easier to believe
In this sweet madness, oh this glorious sadness
That brings me to my knee
"I'm so tired, Draco. Are you still waiting for me, my angel?"
Harry closed his eyes and hummed the song that Draco had sung when he asked Harry to marry him. As if on cue, tears fell from Harry's eyes, and he fell on his knees. He cried like he had never done before.
"I feel so cold, so tired. I have kept my vows, I have kept my vows..." Harry whispered between his tears.
In the arms of an angel fly away from here
From the dark cold hotel room and the endlessness that you fear
You are pulled from the silent wreckage of your reverie
You're in the arms of an angel, may you find some comfort here.
"Harry," a soft whisper.
"Draco?" a stunned and waiting answer.
Harry stopped crying, and from the windows, an angel appeared. The angel, his angel, walked to him, and Harry felt warmth envelope him and his weariness disappear. Draco faced Harry, he unclasped their engagement necklace, and he took the ring to his lips and kissed it. Afterwards, he took Harry's wrinkled hand in his and slid their wedding ring onto the waiting finger. As he slipped on the ring, the once wrinkled hand became a youthful one. As Draco looked at Harry, he saw the man he had known during their youthful years.
"I thought I would never wear this..." Harry said while lifting the ring-clad finger that twinkled as the sun started to rise.
"I promised that you would." Draco brought up his hands to Harry and entwined their fingers together.
"Take me home," Harry said.
"We are already home. You are my home," Draco said as he kissed Harry oh so gently and lovingly, taking his hand and pulling him up, leading him to the window.
The sun, now fully risen, shone so bright as if to celebrate with Harry and Draco the occasion. This celestial show masked the two bright and beautiful angels springing out from the window and flying up above towards the heavens. And if only they would look closely, people would see that the heavens opened up and the smiling faces of people that Harry had known and loved so well welcoming him into their midst.
And whoever would find Harry in his bedroom, he would see that Harry had already succumbed to a peaceful and eternal sleep with a smile on his lips, lying at the foot of his four-poster bed. How easy it would be to miss that at long last, after a lifetime of waiting, Harry was wearing his wedding ring, twinkling in the sunlight.
Truly love can live and last for a lifetime, even if only in memory.
In the arms of an angel, may you find comfort here
