Living as a Slytherin

Harry Potter walked slowly up to the old sorting hat, his father's words ringing in his ears. Aboiut how bad Slytherins were and how he'd be such the model Gryffindor. He put on the hat.

Harry Potter, hmm.... your mother and father were in Gryffindor, but you don't seem like them, not one bit. Wait, you speak Parseltongue, that's odd, and it's your gift, none of your family has had that. You are unique, Salazar would've liked that.

"SLYTHERIN!" the Hat yelled finally. there was a silence, then some applauding from the Slytherin table. Harry slowly walked to the table. Slytherin? He knew he spoke Parseltongue, he hadn't told anyone, not even his parents, he asked about it, his mother and father said only Dark wizards had that gift. Feeling slightly sick, he sat next to Draco Malfoy.

"So, potter has got into Slytherin? I didn't think you had it in you," Malfoy sniffed, in mock surprise. Harry rolled his eyes. They were aquaintences, but they barely talked.

"Malfoy, I'm in trouble, what are my parents going to say?" Harry said, more to himself. Malfoy shrugged.

"You say it like its a bad thing. If they hate you, you can come round this summer, my father and mother would be proud of you," Malfoy said, facing Harry. He sighed and moodily poked at some food that had appeared. His dad had told him what Hogwarts was for. He remembered all the tales his dad had told him about, during his years at Hogwarts, and how he beat the hell out of some Slytherins, what would his parents think? Even his mum said stuff about Slytherins.

"Come on, don't worry about it," Malfoy said, throwing a napkin at him.

"Easy for you to say, you got in the house you wanted to be in. Even my mum said things about you, and my dad the most, how all Dark wizards go into Slytherin!" Harry said, feeling a little panicked.

"Doesn't matter, I said you could come over this summer!" Malfoy said, getting some tart.

"Oy, you first years, come on!" a fifth year prefect said, Malfoy, Harry and some other first years got up and followed the prefect, the other years trailing behind them. They walked a good half-kilometer from the dining hall, and reached a blank wall.

"the password's 'house cup'. Remember it," the fifth year said, the wall slid aside, and they walked in.

"Boys, that corridor, girls the opposite," and with that, the prefect went to go chat with his friends, leaving the first years confused and alone.

"I'm going to write to my mum and dad, see what they think," Harry muttered, going into his room to see the owl Hagrid had gotten for him, sitting on a wardrobe.

*~*~*

    Dear Mum and Dad,

We got over the sorting, Hogwarts is great. Am I allowed to come home this year? Draco Malfoy inited me over to his house for the holidays, can I? Hogwarts is really cool. Well, I have to go.

    Oh, I'm in Slytherin.

                                        Harry

"LILY! LILY!" James yelled through the hallway. Lily ran in, looking around.

"What James, you don't look like your dying," Lily said, rolling her eyes.

"I am! Ju-just read the letter," James said, pretending to faint as he handed the letter to Lily. She scanned it quickley.

"He's in Slytherin," she said simply, she plopped down next to James.

"Yes! I have to tell Padfoot and them!" James said, getting some parchemt.

"Is it that big a deal?"

    "YEAH!"

"James, does it matter which house he's in?"

"Yes, as a matter of fact, are you sure he's our son?"

    "JAMES!"

    "What?"

"Prongs! I got the news!" Sirius Black apparated into the living room. Remus was by his side in seconds. Peter followed.

"Harry? Little Harry with the dreams of being exactly like his father? In Slytherin?" Sirius said, pacing in the room.

"I thought you raised him better?!" Sirius said, looking at James. James put his head down in shame.

"Forty-eight generations of Gryffindors, since the school opened, all the Potters were Gryffindors! I don't understand!" James said, getting up and pacing. Remus just stared.

"It doesn't matter, it's just a house," Remus said, helping himself to some tea that Lily offered him. Jasmine, their other daughter, who was ten, walked in.

"Mum, dad, I heard shouting, what's wrong?" she asked, her red hair in pig tails.

"You're 'brother' is a Slytherin!" James shouted angrily. Lily swatted his head.

*five years later*

"Mum! I'm going to Diagon Alley!" Harry yelled. His dad gave him a dirty look. Harry sighed and walked out of the housr, not bothering to hear the responce.

"So, do all Slytherins not listen to their mother?" Harry heard his father say as he walked out. His father was always making snide remarks about him and his house whenever his mum wasn't around. Harry was glad he didn't tell his father he was a Parseltongue, or practicing the Dark Arts at that.

Harry took out his wand, only on his last day of his fourth year, had be broken the charms that monitered his magic that had been placed by the Ministry on his wand. So he could do magic, and practice. Malfoy had always begged him to do it to his wand, but instead, Harry broke it in two. Just to prove that he wasn't going to listen. Malfoy got another wand the first day of the holidays. He was lucky it was the last day of school when he did.

"Hey, Potter!" Malfoy's familiar voice broke Harry's thoughts. Malfoy was loitering in front of the Leaky Cauldron.

"What, Malfoy, I just got here. I told you since first year, my dad is still bitching about me, and I got caught up," Harry said, kicking his skateboard up.

"I know, i was just trying to help, he was a Gryffindor, so what do you think he would say?" Malfoy asked as they walked into Knockturn Alley.

"Come on, my father said for us to meet him at Quig's shop," Malfoy said, grabbing his forearm and shoving him into a little shop with all sorts of artifacts.

"Hello, Mr. Malfoy," Harry said, shaking Malfoy's hand.

"Nice to see you, Harry, and Draco, my boy, you came," he said, shaking his son's hand too.

"Harry, Draco told me you have a certain... gift, and we shall see today. You see, we found an amulat, but it is inscripted in what we think is Parseltongue, you have that gift, I say?'

"Yes, sir, let me see it," Harry said, after his stay at Malfoy Manor, the Dark Arts had been what he was facinated in. He even got some tatoos of some inscriptions done, his parents didn't know.

"Here it is, read it," Malfoy said eagerly, shoving a dark green book at him. Harry flipped it open carelessly and took a look.

The Dark Lord Voldemort will rise again. After losing a battle in 1964, he was found by some followers and is being taken care of at Slytherin Chambers. The only way he can be helped to full health is by an equal, a boy that was born to Gryffindors, but in the house of Slytherin, who speaks Parseltongue. Just like him.

His father must be very upset at his son's house and have a grudge. The boy must be reading it right now, I can see....

                            Slysstine, the snake.

Harry gave a gasp as he finished reading it. It was almost a prophecy, told by some snake.

"so, Harry, my boy--what does it say?" Malfoy's father asked enthusiastically. Harry shuddred.

"I-i can't read it, that's not Parseltongue," Harry said, his voice wavering. Voldemort was supposed to be dead, he was killed by Dumbledore, how can he still be alive?

"What? You lied!" Malfoy said furiosly, pointing an accusing finger at the shopkeeper. the shopkeeper started babbling nonsense as Malfoy pulled out his wand. Harry dragged Malfoy out of the shop.

"What the hell?" Malfoy said, looking around.

"Why did you tell him I spoke Parseltongue? That book, it should be burned, one page was enough to freak the hell out of me!" Harry said. Malfoy shrugged.

"Hey, you're a Slytherin, and you study Dark Arts, so I thought it was cool, my father was one of his followers, anyways, it doesn't matter, only he and I know that you are," Malfoy said, obviously not caring. they were walking to Diagon Alley.

"I still dont-- Sorry," Harry muttered, he had run into a fourth-year Gryffindor, by the name of Ginny Weasley. Harry used to be friends of the Weasleys, but after he got sorted, he stopped talking to them. But he did see them at a secret organization he parents joined.

    "Whatever," Ginny replied.

"I should hex you, loser," Harry said angrily at her. Malfoy smirked. Harry turned to him.

"I gotta go, Malfoy, I need to go somewhere with my parents," Harry said, he turned to use the floo to his house and left without as much as a 'good-bye'.

*~*~*

"Harry, come down, we're going to the HQ!" James shouted, his voice sounded angry. Lily had insisted that Harry was to go to Grimmauld place too, as he was their son, but James didn't think he was 'trustworthy'. It was pathetic, Lily and James loved each other very much, but James didn't love his son like his daughter. Harry's sister, Jasmine was a Gryffindor, in Ginny Weasley's year. They were close to each other. But Harry was always left out of fun activities, because 'it wouldn't be fun for him,' his dad had said right to his face as they flooed away.

Harry trudged down the stairs, shoving his sister away from him.

"You Slytherins," she muttered, his dad was corrupting her. Harry sighed and levitated his trunk down the stairs and piled it with the rest of the stuff they were bringing.

"Ready?' James said, holding out a sheet of parchemt, Harry grabbed on with his mum and sister too. They disappeared.

    WHOOSH.

They were in the drawing room of Sirius' house. Harry got up and brushed some dirt off him.

"Hey! How's my favorite Gryffindor?" Sirius yelled, giving Jasmine a hug. Harry sighed, Sirius was just as bad as his father. Remus liked him more than both of them, more like his father should. Except he was never around, he moved to America with his wife, Bellatrix, they were a good couple. Bellatrix adored Harry, she always sent 'care packages' to Harry when he was at school. She was a Slytherin when she was at school, at least she liked him.

"Hey, Harry," Sirius said quickley, almost as if he didn't want to waste breath talking to a Slytherin. Harry levitated his trunk to his room, staying in the room to hear his father say to Sirius,

"All Slytherins are anti-social, don't mind him."

Harry sighed and went to his room. He shared the room with Ron Weasley, they used to be friends, before Harry got sorted, now they barely talked. Ron's stuff was already there. Harry sighed as he unpacked his things. Sirius had purposely decorated the whole house in red and gold. There were pictures of lions and gryffins everywhere.

"Hey," Ron said casually, walking in and getting his broomstick, a Cleansweep eleven.

"you going to play Quidditch?" Harry asked him. Ron nodded.

"Can I come?" Harry asked, he knew it was usless, even if they didn't have enough players, they never invited him to play, even when Harry went to his house when his parents came to visit.

"Uh... er... sorry, we have enough players," Ron said, walking out. Harry plopped on his bed. It was also decorated in red and gold. He felt so out of place. Even his parents didn't really like him. his mother was nice sometimes, but she would always lose her temper on him. Just like his dad. Even when he told him, after his second year, that he made the Quidditch team, his father just said,

"So? It would've been better if you were a Slytherin, just to let you know, I'm not proud of you."

Harry left the room in tears, he knew his father was very distant after his first year, but that was the first time he expressed how much he hated his son. He didn't even get the broom his dad promised him when he was little. He said he would.

"If you get on the Quidditch team, Harry, I'll buy you the most expensive racing broom there is!" he had said as nine-year-old Harry caught the Snitch at the Burrow one day. His mother didn't really care for him much either.

"Harry, you rememeber what that lady said to me last week, don't say that word to your mother again, only Slytherins say that," Lily had told a five-year-old Harry after this blond haired woman who turned out to be Malfoy's mother called Lily Potter a mudblood.

Harry sighed and took out his wand and aimed it at the wall. The walls turned a dark shade of green. Hary pointed his wand at the picture of a lion. It turned into a picture of a great snake. he pointed hi wand at the floor, then the floor turned into mahogany wood, not the cheery cherry it used to be. Half an hour later, he had transfigured the whole room, and then he went to the bathroom. He transfigured everything into Slytherin colors.

"Harry! Dinner time! Do you mind getting the Weasley's from outside? thanks!" Lily said quickley from the kitchen. Harry sighed and tucked his wand in his pocket. he walked out to the backyard, where Sirius' Quidditch pitch was. All the Weasley siblings, not Bill, Charlie, or Percy, and Jasmine were playing Quidditc and having a great time.

"Hey, you lot, it's dinnertime," Harry yelled at them. They just ignored him and continued playing. Harry sighed angrily and went back to the house.

All the grown-ups were seated at the table and chatting. Sirius got up.

"I have to go to the loo," Sirius pronounced. he went to the one down the hallway, the one Harry had transfigured.

"AAUGH!" Sirius screamed. Everyone jumped. Lily and James ran to the bathroom, then stepped back from shock.

"Harry Potter! How dare you ruin Padfoot's bathroom? I didn't raise you like that!" James yelled, pointing at the green and silver bathroom. Lily just put her hands on her temples.

"You're not supposed to use magic, I'm wondering when your explusion slip is coming," Lily said angrily. Harry shrugged.

"I'm sure dad and Sirius know what i did, they were the famous Maurauders, weren't they?" Harry asked innocently. James' ears turned pink and Sirius just looked confused.

"Whatever you did is Dark Arts--Harry are you doing Dark Arts?" Lily asked him, looking at him suspiciously. Harry shrugged.

"It was just the first--once! I only did it once!" Harry said, he almost let it slip. Sirius' eye twitched. James looked at him.

"I am not going to have you, even if you are some Slytherin, to practice the Dark Arts!" James yelled at his son. Harry shrugged, he looked around, the Weasley's and Jasmine just came in.

"Hey, Potter, how come you didn't tell us dinner was ready? Wanted to keep it to yourself?" Fred asked him. George nodded and Ron rolled his eyes.

"And now you're getting in trouble for practicing the Dark Arts, you stinking Slytherin," Jasmine said angrily.

"How dare you vandilize Sirius' bathroom? He's letting you stay here, giving you food and shelter for you, and you dirty his bathroom?" Lily shrieked, absolutly furious. Harry could feel anger bubbling in his insides.

"Go upstairs, no dinner for you," James said, nodding towards the gold and red stairs. Harry went up the stairs, feeling tears prickle the sides of his eyes. Life was so cruel. to him at least. Malfoy was lucky to have parents that were pround of him. His parents didn't give him as much as a 'good job' when he got eight OWLs.

Even Jasmine had a better life, when she got on as a Chaser on the Quidditch team, his mum and dad went to every single game, to cheer her on. Even when it was a Gryffindor versus Slytherin game, they would hold up banners along with Sirius that said 'Go Gryffindor!'

*flashback*

"Potter, keep it cool out there, your parents are out there, but it doesn't look like they're supporting you," Montague said, looking outside the changing room. Harry sighed, he was in his fourth year, his second year in earning the Quidditch cup for Slytherin.

"Get out there!" Montague shouted, the whole team went out, Harry was standing next to Malfoy, who was a Chaser.

"TODAY'S MATCH IS GRYFFINDOR VERSUS SLYTHERIN!" An overly-biased Gryffindor shouted.

"LOOKS LIKE GRYFFINDOR HAS A NEW CHASER! jASMINE POTTER, SISTER OF HARRY POTTER, WHO PLAYS SEEKER FOR SLYTHERIN!" Lee yelled through the microphone. There were boos from three-fourths of the crowd when they heard Harry Potters name. Harry could almost make out his father shouting,

"HE IS A SHAME TO THE FAMILY!"

Harry sighed and kicked off the ground. He could see his sister flying around.

"WOW! GIRL POTTER HAS SO MUCH TALENT! JUST LIKE HER FATHER! SAY HELLO TO MR. POTTER!" Lee yelled as Jasmine scored a point.

Jasmine flew a victory lap around the field, stopping to give her parents and Sirius a high-five. Harry felt a sence of longing, to belong in his family, unfortunatly, that thought was cut off when one of the Weasley's shot a bludger at him.

"OUCH! A BLUDGER NICELY PLACED ALMOST KNOCKS BOY POTTER OFF HIS BROOM! GOOD RIDDENCE! Sorry Professor! It's true!" Lee yelled, there was some boos from the Slytherin team, but Harry noticed that his parents or Sirius didn't look concerned. Harry felt the tears prickle his eyes, fron the pain of the bludger hitting his stomach, and how uncaring they were.

Feeling a surge of anger, he burst a wave of power and flew towards the glittering speck across the field. Ginny Weasley, who was also on the team, saw him and started following him, her broom no match for the Firebolt Remus and Bellatrix sent him.

Harry cut in front of her, causing her to stop short and nearly fall off her broom, but it wasn't a foul, he hadn't touched her.

"AND BOY POTTER CHASES THE SNITCH! CATCH UP, WEASLEY! COME---NOOO! BOY POTTER CATCHES THE SNITCH!" Lee Jordan said, the sadness obvious in his voice. the score was one-sixty to zero. Slytherin had won.

Harry held up the snitch, the applauding of the Slytherins tremendous. They went off the field, down to the Holloween feast that was waiting for them.

During the feast, people from Slytherin, even their Head of House, Professor Snape came and congratulated him.

"Well, Potter, you did a good job, showed your father," Snape said, his lips placed in a small smile. Harry saw his father and Sirius scowl from their place at the Gryffindor table. They hadn't come and congratlated him for winning a match. Harry looked at the High Table and saw Professor Dumbledore looking at him in pity. It was then Harry decided to practice the Dark Arts.

*end flashback*

"AAUGH!" Ron screamed, waking Harry up later. Ron apparently saw that Harry changed the room.

"Sirius! Look what he did to our room! Mum! Why do I have to share a room with him?" Ron whined as the adults came. Lily cast a revealing spell, and everythingw as back to normal.

"Harry James Potter, we told you not to do that, do we need to take away your wand?" Lily said sternly. James completely lost it.

"WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU? CAN YOU TELL US WHAT WE DID WRONG! WHAT DID WE DO TO MAKE YOU MAKE OUR LIVES MISERIBLE? WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?" James shouted at Harry. Jasmine had come in, watching her brother get yelled at. It wasn't like she cared.

"YOU ARE SUCH A SHAME! WHY, OH WHY DO YOU MAKE OUR LIVES SO HARD! YOU SHOULD BE THANKING US, I HAVE BEEN WANTING TO DISOWN YOU FOR YEARS, BUT YOU'RE LUCKY YOUR MOTHER WANTS TO KEEP YOU!" James yelled, in a complete fury. Harry still sat on the bed, feeling the same tears prickle his eyes. The same tears that prickled every time his father yelled at him, talked about him, in front of his face. He had a family, that was until he was eleven, on September first.

Harry saw his sister, there were tears in her eyes, from hearing her dad yell about how much he hated her brother.

"YOU'D BETTER ANSWER ME! OR I WILL HEX THE HELL OUT OF YOU! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU? WHAT DID WE DO TO MAKE YOU LIKE THIS? THIS IS THE LAST STRAW, RIGHT AFTER YOUR SEVENTH YEAR, YOU WILL NOT COME NEAR, ME, YOUR MOTHER, OR YOUR SISTER!" James yelled, now everyone was upstairs, watching James release his fury on his son. Six years of hating his son so much was coming ut. Lily was crying on Sirius' shoulder. He was looking at Harry with distaste, how could he make his parents lives so miserible? it was so unfair.

"What do you want me to do? It wasn't my choice to be in Slytherin! And when I can move out, I will, Malfoy's parents love me more than you would ever, why do you wate me so much? Was is my fault that I'm in a house that you hate?" Harry asked, feeling the tears stream down his face, now all the Weasleys were there, including Mrs. and Mr. Weasley.

"DO YOU WANT ME TO KILL MYSELF! TRUST ME, I CAN WORK A GOOD KILLING CURSE! IHAVE KILLED BEFORE! AND IT'S NOT THAT HARD!" Harry yelled, "OR BETTER YET, DO YOU WANT ME TO KILL YOU? SO I CAN END YOUR MISERY OF ME?" Harry yelled, he took out his wand and pointed it at James' heart. James paled, his son had just admitted that he had killed.

"YES! I AM EVIL! FEAR THE DARK LORD HARRY POTTER! Harry Potter, the Slytherin, the Parselmouth, he's soooo evil!" Harry yelled.

"AVADA--" but Harry paused, "you're scared, aren't you? your right, you should've diowned me, I'm a flaw, in the Potter family," Harry said quietly. the tip of his wand was still green. James walked up to him.

"I'm serious, after your seventh year, you're out of this house," he said, then he took Lily and Jasmine and walked out of the room.

"Ok, there's nothing to see here!" Sirius said, making veryone get out. He looked at Harry.

"I suggest you leave before I hex you into oblivion, you have an hour, and then you better be gone," Sirius said viciously to Harry.

"Gladly," Harry snarled at him. He waved his wand and everything packed itself neatly into his trunk. He stormed down the stairs, pushing Ginny Weasley out of his way.

"Godric's Hollow, Potter's residence," Harry said, he disappeared from his Godfather's house in a burst of green flames.

He would be leaving for school tomorrow anyways, he could get his own ride to Kings Cross. he went to his room and slammed the door. He looked at all the pictures of his parents hugging him and playing with him, there was a picture for every year until he was eleven. Harry decided to do something that he was told never to do. He opened the door and went to his parents room and to the closet. In that closet was a a box for very year, his dad wrote down whatever he did on a sheet of paper, for records. Harry pulled out the box labled '1991' and took out one from December eighteenth.

Today Harry wrote to us that he was coming home for Christmas and he asked us why we never respond to his letters. Why would we want to write to him? I'm still wondering what I did wrong in raising him, we raised him just like Jasmine, she doesn't seem happy about Harry being a Slytherin either. Neither does Lily or Padfoot. I even brought up to Lily that we should put him in an orphanage, but she said no. We will just wait until he's seventeen, then kick him out, I guess. i wonder what Slytherins want for Christmas?

Harry threw the paper down. He wasn't loved, nobody likes him. He's just that Harry Potter, first Slytherin for forty-eight generations of the Potter family. He was loved, he did have a caring family, for the first eleven years of his life, it was all gone now.
