Chapter One: Falling Drops

The pitter-patter of rain echoed on the windows outside the compartments of the Hogwarts Express. Shouts and laughter could be heard all throughout the train, all but in one compartment. In that particular compartment which just happened to be the Head Girl compartment sat Lily Evans. Lily Evans as everyone knew her was the quietest student ever to go to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She never talked except for once in her fifth year. But never mind that. Lily was a pretty girl. She had shoulder length fiery-red hair, dazzling emerald eyes, and a nice complexion. If she was any other girl she would have been immediately asked out by the boys of Hogwarts. But her quietness and love for studying made her an easy person to avoid. She also wasn't very popular. But never mind that, Lily didn't care about what anyone thought of her. She hated on how everyone was so judgmental. She was perfect at school. She got straight A's except in Transfiguration. That was indeed her worst subject. Though everyone thought Lily was "Miss Perfect" it was all a lie. Truthfully Lily was messed up inside, but no one knew that. If Lily thought her life was messed up before it was no way going to get better any sooner. After what had just happened over the summer, Lily just couldn't take it! But no matter, she had to keep the pain bottled up inside. It was the only way to keep her going, to not break down, and to not get hurt. But now back to the real world.

Lily sat staring outside the window, oblivious to the loud racket coming from the Head Boy's compartment next door. She watched a single drop of rain slide down the window. Memories raced in her mind as if they were racecars or brooms. (Whichever you prefer.) She remembered the picnic when she was seven that she went on with her family. That day that it had poured so hard that it flooded. Lily got separated from her family and nearly drowned in the flood if it had not been her father's hand that she grasped at the last second. She also remembered the day when Lily was eleven and had just got her Hogwarts letter. Lily had left her window open to annoy her mother because she wouldn't let Lily go outside. She remembered the instant that her mother had read the letter; she grabbed her rain slicker and Lily's hand and set immediately for the outdoors. She spent all the evening in the rain with her mom; it had been a wonderful day. Instantly Lily's eyes filled with tears. She wanted to burst out crying but she didn't dare. Even if no one heard her it didn't matter to her. It was self-pride. Though she tried her hardest to keep back the flow of tears she could not help it. A single tear fell against her check and Lily's did not bother to wipe it away. She felt like all her emotions from the summer were left in that tear and if she wiped it away she would be denying everything. She had already been through denial and it did not suit her well.

Lily heard a rather loud sound erupt, it sounded like someone had opened her door, but nonetheless Lily did not turn her head. She barely realized her own surroundings. All of a sudden Lily felt a presence about her. Lily who was skilled in many more ways than one was often good at picking up presences and emotions, though she was no Trelawney. One thought came to her mind and that was Potter. Instantly Lily whipped out her wand. She felt someone's breath against her cheek. Instantly Lily jabbed her wand at the presence and muttered a quick spell. Instantly she heard a shout. A boy no other than James Potter fell onto the floor. If you didn't know James Potter before that would be very surprising. He was five feet, nine inches tall and had unusually messy, ruffed black hair and dark green eyes. If you didn't know him for his looks you would definitely know him for his reputation. James was a Marauder. He and three other boys wrecked havoc among the corridors of Hogwarts. They played pranks. Lily hated James's guts. He was mean to younger kids, he acted immature, he was popular, he thought he was "all that" and he was a player!

"What the hell was THAT for?" he asked dumbly getting up to his feet.

Lily didn't respond but kept her wand steadily on James.

"What, you going to duel with me, Lily? Or rage at me like you did in our fifth year? What are you going to do Lily?" James Potter asked as he leapt to his feet.

Instantly Lily's face turned bright red with anger and hatred for James. She definitely remembered that day in her fifth year. She had been so angry with James, always picking on Severus Snape who had never done anything to him. She had blown up at him. Everyone was particularly surprised that little Miss Perfect Evans had just yelled at another student. Now all James could do was make fun of her because for once in her life Lily had been brave and daring!

"Now James, try to be a gentleman," grinned James's counterpart Sirius Black as he entered the Head Girl compartment. Sirius Black was James's very best friend. The two were hardly anywhere without each other. Sirius was known as a player as well. He had chin length black hair and warm blue eyes.

"A duel?" Peter Pettigrew asked reluctantly as he entered the compartment as well. Peter Pettigrew was the quietest out of the marauders. He didn't play a big role in their pranks but nonetheless he was a Marauder. He had short brown hair and cold gray eyes.

"Now James you and Lily are Head Boy and Girl. Please TRY to not get into detention BEFORE we even arrive at Hogwarts!" said Remus Lupin who was by far the sensible one in the group. He had short blonde hair and chocolate brown eyes.

"There will be no duel," said Marietta, one of Lily's friends as she entered the room. Marietta had long black hair pulled back into a ponytail. She was two inches taller than Lily and had the prettiest mystic gray eyes ever seen.

"And for the sake of not getting detention you best leave this room right now or Lily will punish you all!" added Melanie, another of Lily's friends as she entered the room. Melanie was three inches shorter than Lily and had layered blonde hair. Her face was unusually round and she was a bit plump. She was far more the most outgoing person out of the three.

"Lily wouldn't dare!" Potter snorted.

"Yes, Lily might not do such a thing and I may not have authority over you, Potter, but I will make sure that if you don't leave right now that by tomorrow morning everyone will know what happened to you and Kayla Vermin over the summer," Melanie threatened.

"Come on boys, we best leave now anyways. More tricks to plan," James said from turning pale to back to his regular face color.

"Dude, what happened with Kayla?" Sirius asked as they leaved the apartment.

"Thanks for saving me, Mel. I was about to hex Potter into the next century for trying to kiss me. I can't believe him!" Lily replied earnestly.

"The question is, how did he get into this room without you noticing?" Marietta asked, sitting down.

"I don't know, maybe he... he could have used that spell we learned last year..." Melanie instantly said, babbling on about spells and curses that she could never remember the names of.

"Guys?" Marietta and Melanie snapped back to Lily.

"Wow!" Marietta softly coursed.

"It's an invisibility cloak!" Melanie nearly screamed.

"I know, but the question is where did they get it?" Marietta hissed.

Instantly Marietta and Melanie fell into a deep conversation on where the Marauders could have gotten the cloak. Neither noticed Lily's absence in the conversation.
