- I just got depressed one day that I couldn't get any of my fanfics done or to my approval to post, so I decided that a songfic would be easier to begin with.
"Land of Confusion"
She woke up surprisingly calm for once this morning. This was the day, the day she was to duel to the death. The duel with Neville Longbottom, second in command to Lord Voldemort. If she survived this, she would go on to the Dark Lord himself.
If she could find him.
They knew she was coming, they knew.
They were ready.
I must've dreamed a thousand dreams
They haunt me by a million dreams
But I can hear the marching feet,
They're moving, into the street.
As she rose from her bed and droned like a zombie through getting ready as if for a normal day. She picked up the Daily Prophet and read the only page they had the money left to print. "Ginny Weasley Plans to Duel with Neville Today: Many Plan to Show Up To Help, All Are Hopeful for Her Success . . . " She slammed it down and started crying, everyone was counting, counting on her.
Now did you read the news today
They say the dangers gone away
But I can see the fire still lights
Burning into the night.
When she finally stopped, she grabbed her wand. She looked at it thoughtfully,
It was Bill's first wand, willow with a unicorn hair at ten inches. This was her first wand as well, she took very good care of it. She knew she couldn't get another one. Ollivander's had been destroyed along with his beautiful wands and himself just the year before by the Death Eaters. There were so many, there seemed to be no end. They were like the hydra, for every one killed, two would take its place. It was too confusing, wasn't good supposed to pevail? Even though she had doubts, she had to keep the spark alive. She had to fight while there was still hope, no matter how little hope there was. This was the Time, this was the Land of Confusion.
There's too many men,
There's too many people,
Making too many problems.
And there's not mch love to go around.
Can't you see this is the Land of Confusion.
But this is the world we live in,
And these are the hands we give her.
You'll never let is stop trying,
To make it a place worth living in.
Oh, what she wouldn't give to have her brothers here. Or her parents, but they couldn't be. They were gone, along with Harry and Hermione. Draco had died shortly after his public batrayal of the Dark Lord. Everything had gone wrong scince that day.
Ooh, Superman where are you now?
When everything's gone wrong somehow.
The man of steel, the man of power,
Is losing, there's nobody now.
That was all two years ago, when all of the brightest generation of witches and wizards had been wiped out. Now the only hope the world had left was in the hands of Ginny and her generation. There weren't many left, most were dead or in hiding. Everything was in utter confusion.
This is the time, this is the place,
Where we look for the future.
But there's not much love to go around.
Tell me why this is the Land of Confusion.
But this is the world we live in,
And these are the hands we give her.
You'll never let us stop trying,
To make it a place worth living in.
As she walked out of her house and down the street toward the designated meeting place, she began to think. She began to think of the past times before Voldemort's second uprising. When Harry, Hermione, Ron, and especially Draco and she were all happy. This all lasted until Harry and Herm's daughter, Katryn was born. As well as Ron and Lavender's daughter Charon was born the same year as Draco and she had their daughter Wyvern.
This was all two years ago, they were all killed on October 31st in mockery of Harry's parent's murders. The children and Ginny survived however, except Wyvern. But they were poor and unhealthy, malnutrition overtook Charon in the orphanage before Ginny could take her out, and Katryn had to be taken to St. Mungos for her major mental instability. She died later that very month. All these thoughts depressed her greatly. Yet they didn't make her sad. She was glad that they wouldn't have to live to see the Dark Years that have come.
I remember long ago, when the sun was shining,
And the stars shined bright, all through the night,
And the sound of your laughter, as I held you tight.
So long ago . . .
She couldn't help but wonder what could have been. What would have happened? Where would she be? But none of this bothered her at the moment because she had almost passed the graveyard. She paused and went in quickly to see her family and friends, her husband and her child's graves. Possibly for the last time.
I'm only coming home tonight,
My generation, will put it right,
We're not just making promises,
That we know, we'll never keep.
She shook her head as she walked out of the graveyard and on to the street. She was on her way to what some would call certain death. Yet in spite of it all, she began to sing . . .
Too many men, there's too many people
Making too many problems,
And there's not much love to go around.
Can't you see this is the Land of Confusion?
But this is the world we live in,
And these are the hands we give her.
You'll never let us stop trying
To make it a place worth fighting for.
This is the world we live in,
And these are the things we give her.
Stand up and let us start showing,
Just where our lives are going to.
The End
