Before the Letter

Chapter 1

School Magic

Dear Diary,

You won't believe what happened today! I was at school just about to go into Maths, when I noticed I hadn't done my homework. I know! I'd completely forgotten; I don't know how I could have let this happen. My hands started to tremble as I was consumed by fear, what would Mr. Williams say? Would he give me a detention? I could not bear to imagine such a blot on my record; I mean employees will see it one day! When he came, I was worse, I could hardly answer his friendly 'hello'. As I sat down, I was in the midst of despair. I slowly got my books out of my bag, hoping against hope that by some miracle I could have done the work. I knew I hadn't because for every piece of homework I learn the answers off by heart. Imagine how shocked I was then when I opened my book to find the homework written in my handwriting. It was like magic! I studied the homework amazed, how could it be? I suppose I must have done the homework in the middle of the night. You know how I do this when I suddenly remember something is missing in one of my essays; so I think I must have just done that and then forgot it when I woke up in the morning. But still you've got to admit it's rather strange. Oh well, I'd better finish off, I want to look again on the NASA site, surely there's something else I can add to my space essay, it's only six pages long.

Dear Diary,

The more I think about yesterday's incident the more confused I get, which is very weird for me. Normally, I can easily solve any problem after a little thought; but this is different. Also, things like this have happened before; like when I didn't know the answer to a teacher's question once I looked down and it appeared on the empty desk! I mean I'm sure I'm not hallucinating, but there it was in flaming red letters and it was the correct one. Stephanie next to me couldn't see it either I'm sure, even though I didn't ask her. It was obvious I was the only one who could see it, I mean Stephanie would have seen it, it was really eye-catching, you can imagine. When I looked again it had disappeared. These things are really starting to worry me. I don't know if I dare even say this in my diary but I think I'm going insane. I looked on the Internet but there didn't seem to be any symptoms similar in any of the mental diseases. I wonder if I've got a rare new disease, maybe no one will notice what's happening if I hide it. That could be dangerous though; who knows what I might do next? I might hurt someone without meaning to. Oh I'm so scared!
