Pride and Prejudice

Chapter 1: Green Eyes and Games

"Lily! Are you awake?!? I really need to get in there!" were the sounds Lily Potter woke to. Her brother, Sirius, was pounding on her door, and then burst in. "OK James! Lily can't protect you in here! Gimme back my letter!" "You," Lily began in her most sinister voice, "are on the verge of becoming a ferret, you little prat! You know I can slug both you and James! Luckily for the two of you, I'm busy today! And your letter is on the kitchen table where you left it yesterday!" Lily smirked as Sirius raced out of the room. She got up, shut the door, and crossed her room to look in the mirror. She was a pretty girl of fourteen, with bright green eyes, inherited from her father, Harry Potter, and long red hair, from her mother, Ginny Potter. Lily was tall and slender, every day becoming more and more like the spitting image of her grandmother for whom she was named. She had known what her Grandmother Lily had looked like from the few pictures her father hung up that he had of her. As Lily changed into her few Muggle clothes, a crumpled piece of paper fell out of her nightgown pocket. Her smile flashed in the mirror before she bent down to pick it up. It happened to be a letter of her own, from her good friend Sean Wood, beginning his fifth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry tonight, while she was beginning her fourth.

Dear Lily,

You will never believe how much work I could get done over the summer with all of my siblings gone. Now that Charlotte finished Hogwarts last year, she traveled to France with some of her friends 3 days after school let out, so I have peace and quiet! Mum, Dad and I went to Scotland to visit my grandparents for a week, and when we returned, I got down with Quidditch tactics for this upcoming season. We're definetly going to do better, although I heard that Slytherin is getting a new captain and Seeker, so you better beware for competition and some new moves! All of you on the team are gonna work your damn hardest! It's funny, because when I was telling Father my new strategies, he laughed and said I was being just like him! And that I am going to end up working you just the same way he worked your father! Endless practices! More complicated moves! BETTER YEAR!!! Now to the important stuff... haha. When I'm not doing Quidditch work, I'm really very lonely. I'm so happy school is starting again! Not for the work! I'm NOTHING like your aunt, if what Dad told me was correct. I'm just really anticipating seeing everyone in Gryffindor again, the team, and of course, the star Seeker! I'll see you on the Hogwarts Express on September the first!

Sincerely,

Sean

Lily was really anxious to get back to school too, also for the same reasons a Sean. It was going to be wonderful to see all her classmates and teammates again, especially a certain captain and Keeper. As Lily double-checked to see that everything was packed up, she grabbed some last minute things, threw them into her bag, and headed for the door. Only when she passed her bed did she remember to make sure that her black notebook was safely tucked away.

As his prefect badge glowed in the sun, Gregory Malfoy quickly put a simple Muggle jacket over it. His father's company car began to pull up in front of King's Cross Station, and Gregory didn't want to look too magical with his wand sticking out of his pocket. He sighed and looked into the rearview mirror, and was quite pleased with what he saw. As Mother describes me, he thought, dashing, Father calls me his clone, and for my bout of depiction, drop-dead gorgeous. Growing up as a Malfoy had its influences on Gregory's self-esteem, which had reached beyond its peak about six years ago. He was, in fact, a handsome boy of 15, beginning his 5th year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Being one of the most respected in his year, and becoming prefect this year, he believed that it couldn't get any better. Who the hell, he thought, am I fooling?!? I hate the way Father seems to want to do "Father-Son" things, yet he's NEVER around! Those idiots I seemed to have befriended are no company! I need someone, something, ANYTHING! As Gregory heaved a sigh (that seemed to be full of the feeling of rejectment), instinctively he reached into his bag to make sure the object of consolation he truly needed was there; his black notebook.

September 1st

Well, here I am! On the Hogwarts Express to my 4th year at Hogwarts! AND... I saw Harry! It has been TWO WHOLE MONTHS since I saw my BEST FRIEND AND COUSIN! Can you imagine being away from someone so close to you for so long?!? Oh, it was so easy to spot him from Platform 9 ¾ with his red hair standing out among everyone else. He looks EXACTLY the same! Uncle Ron's red hair and freckles (not to mention height!), Aunt Hermione's brains, and both's sense of adventure! The nerve of the little git to leave to America a week after school let out! Harry will end up traveling the world one day. In his letters, he seemed to be having the best time, I was afraid that he wouldn't want to come back when term started! But it was one of the best reunions ever! I was squealing lie a two-year-old who was just given candy as I ran to hug him! Most people think it's gross that my best friend happens to be my cousin (aside from the fact that he's a boy. But look at Aunt Hermione! Daddy and Uncle Ron were, pardon my mistake, ARE her best friends, and look at how they ended up! They're all related!). But Harry and I have a special relationship, we're more like brother and sister. He's a nice companion to turn to when Sirius and James become to irritating.

I AM THE BEST DAMN FRIEND THIS GIRL HAS EVER HAD!!!

BLOODY HELL, I'M GOOD!

Only one problem, Lil. I cant get Miss Brown to notice me...

Harry! Did your father teach you that language?!? And I cant help you with Amber Brown! I'm not the best matchmaker! Harry just took my diary (you) and read what I wrote about him, then wrote in ink that CRUDE language up there! Something strange did happen though. A swanky car (probably from the Ministry of Magic) pulled up in front of King's Cross Station as we were parking Dad's car, and a boy got out, (probably 15 or 16, because I didn't recognize him from my year) and began to stare at me as if there was something wrong with me. Well, he was really looking at the diary (you) I was writing in as if something were wrong with it. Then I realized what was so weird was because he had the EXACT SAME ONE!!! AND, it looked as if he treasured it the EXACT SAME WAY THAT I TREASURE YOU!!! Weird, huh? Well, I gotta go! Sean just arrived in our compartment!

Until later!

Lily

...Strange experiences happen at the strangest times. Especially to me! As I stepped out of the Ministry car, I noticed this other family not too far away, with a girl (most likely younger than me, as I didn't recognize her) who was writing at a speed faster than the new Nimbus model, in a (gulp!)... BLACK NOTEBOOK! Scary, isn't it? She is rather pretty. At least her eyes baffle me. They are the most amazing things I've ever seen. They sparkled in the sunlight like two emeralds just resting in her eyelids. Hold on a moment, Gregory. You're a Malfoy. Malfoys don't go crazy over strangers, especially when they have a girlfriend. Arrgh! I'm so confused!

The very puzzled,

Gregory

...Gregory ran his hand down the sleek handle of his Nimbus 4000. His father sent it on the occasion of Gregory becoming the new captain of the Slytherin Quidditch team. He had never been asked to be on the team. Now, as the new Seeker and captain, (with help from Professor Snape) his father wanted to show the best of the Malfoys. Gregory was always a good Quidditch player, but never even really thought he was good enough for the team. "That is you weakness, son," his father had said sternly. "Malfoys never have weaknesses." However, after one practice with the team, Gregory was completely weak-free. He was dressed in his special silver and green robes, preparing for the first match of the season, Slytherin versus Gryffindor. As always, the players were announced. Gregory paid no attention to the catcalling that his girlfriend, Daisy Parkinson, was echoing throughout the stadium, rather paid attention to the Gryffindors. He felt in only right to know who was who, for future tactics. Gryffindor Lee Ann Jordan, the commentator, began to speak into the magical microphone. "And now, for the Gryffindors! The captain and Keeper, Sean Wood!" Cheers and waves of scarlet and gold came from the Gryffindors as their captain circled the goalposts, not to mention some girls in his year holding up a banner reading "Wood Will Wow You!" Lee Ann continued. "The Gryffindor Chasers, Harry Weasley, Joanne Weasley and Michael Longbottom! Our Beaters, twins Sirius and James Potter! And the Gryffindor Seeker, Lily Potter!" Cheers seem loudest for this Lily Potter, thought Gregory. How good of a Seeker can a girl be? The game began. 20 minutes into the action-packed match, the score was tied at 80 points. Lily rose high up on her Firebolt 13, above the zooming players to search with her owl-like eyes for the Golden Snitch. Every once in a while, she would dive down to have a quick celebration with her teammates. Gregory observed her expertise skill with the broomstick, as if it read her mind. He stayed near her, but far away enough so as not to make it obvious what he was doing. Out of the corner of his eye, Gregory saw a glint of gold, and immediately rushed after the Snitch. Lily also noticed the Snitch, and tailed after Gregory. The two of them hurtled after the Snitch, head-to-head. For a split second, the two looked at each other. Gregory froze in midair as the owner of the sparkling green eyes that he had looked into just seconds beforehand raced after the Snitch.
