Wormtail's Sacrifice
Dragix
- Story Summary:
- Wormtail finally pays back the debt he owes to... himself. (This is a One-Shot, written in poetry format and contains speculations for the end of the 7th Harry Potter book) It starts out with Harry, alone with the Death Eaters and ready to face Voldemort. The Marauders meet together for the first and last time to unite and give Harry the power to-... That's assuming that he'll live through it...

- Author's Note:
- This poem is dedicated to Wormtail-haters. As it is a poem, it isn't meant to be grammatically correct. If I were to complain about one thing in this poem, it would be that the defeat was too "easy". You'll see what I mean.
Chapter 12: The Sequel
WORMTAIL'S SACRIFICE
By Dragix
Look upon the beginning of the end
Where Dragix continues Hogwarts' trend
Seventeen years of Harry Potter, we know
He's encountered truths, lies, friend and foe
This takes place in that Seventh Year
Where what you see is not what you hear
There's no one to trust; so many are gone
Tell me it's not impossible to move on
Harry knew he could only be
The one to fulfill the Prophecy
He will have to face it alone
Either victor or victim
This fact failed to condone
This was Destiny
Through the years he'd learned
Dreaded Time will not slow for you
He watches helplessly as it burned
These flames will follow true
Before he knew it, it was there
Sitting patiently for him
Waiting stealthily in his despair
He steeled his nerve
This moment was his to take
He mustn't blow it
The Fate of the World is at stake
There was no light in this place
Nothing more than black empty space
Echoing off the dark walls he found
It said he'd die before he hit the ground
For many, this was completely expected
From those Death Eaters who rejected
Those unworthy of Wizarding kind
Let's leave them dead, not a trace
Purebloods, we together must bind
To seek and destroy this unholy race
The boy was brought down to his knees
Alone with his deadliest enemies
They say he won't live to see the end
Marked with the Scar nothing can mend
Lurking in the shadows there lay a rat
Too cowardly to face in real combat
Wormtail was Moony's best friend for life
Then he killed the wolf in his sleep
With his own silver knife
Harry had no where to run, no where to hide
Trying desperately to find that light inside...
Tortured, he shrieked, gave out, and screamed
A cry that would wake the dead, it seemed
Lifetimes away, Hope heard his call
A long lost godfather who had taken a fall
By first impression he's the mark of the Grim
Or perhaps he's the infamous Prisoner of Azkaban
But see through this man's thoughts within
He's merely the godfather- a noble man
He acts recklessly; let the ends justify the means
Spiritually, Padfoot passed through the Realms
He flew every nook and cranny, all the in-betweens
Defying the law of all dead kings and queens
The Rat stands motionless- silent as stars
This was his moment, his one redemption
His teeth chattered, his feet were icy polars
His greatest weakness was this hesitation
Time was rapidly giving out
The Dark Lord was coming this way
Invisible to all on the scene, no doubt
Padfoot's here to save the day
Pettigrew's cold feet stretched through his spine
Like walking through a ghost, an icy shower
Chills through his skull, though he felt just fine
Kill the Potter boy or choose the latter?
In the spirits came a bark of laughter
Fulfilling his job: save the Potter boy
Tormenting this rat was an easy matter
Like taking candy from a baby
Let's all watch his bones chatter
But an easy job had just gotten tougher
A door slams a new arrival
Let's play hard, just a little rougher
Here he comes, the Dark Lord's survival
As for Wormtail, he had lost his one shot
Opportunity never knocks twice and then again
Disappointment made his collar go red-hot
He lowers his knife from the Potter boy's chin
Unable to make his sacrifice
The cold high-pitched laughter could see through all lies
Here it comes- Harry Potter was going to die
You can see it in his snakish blood-red eyes
Death, Harry Potter, you cannot defy
A tap on the shoulder, Padfoot turns around
The Marauders gather together for the first and last time
They had one mission: Wormtail's going down
Join us, Wormtail, in Death's echoing chime
Wormtail's head ran hot and his blood ran cold
The knife almost slips from within his hold
Watch out, the Dark Lord approaches
The unseen Marauders gather, Padfoot coaches
Harry's scar meets the Dark Lord's wand tips
The darkest Unforgivable Curse on the edge of his lips
The true Marauders jump in; let Wormtail's spirit possess
James' bravery, Lupin's chivalry, Sirius's recklessness
Wormtail steps in to pay his Wizard's debt
Through a flash of green light, a great rushing sound
Harry looks up; his arms are bound
In front of him was the traitor, his face in shock
Wormtail had died before he hit the ground
Like many movies, this scene is cliched
Wormtail takes Avada Kedvra instead of Harry
At long last this rat's Wizards debt is paid
Once again, the Potter boy's death is parried
Long live the rat, whose own life he slayed
Laughing up a storm, all four Marauders rejoice
Born a traitor, he dies a traitor
You may not know it but he did have a choice
But this choice, Dragix will explain later
Harry had watched the rat die for him
Just like his mother had done so long ago
Wormtail's debt emptied, Harry's [debt] full to the brim
It's time to use the power Voldemort didn't know
Flashes of light so green with death
Power stronger than any Wizard or House Elf
Ancient Magic, untouched for so long
It's simple love and it will hold strong
Wormtail and Lily's sacrifice could only make this possible
We don't know if Harry will live through it, though it's probable
However, it's certain this power isn't used in vain
Because this is the end of Voldemort's rein
In this aftermath, Dragix now explains a bit more
Wormtail gave Harry the same power Lily had so long before
In doing so, we saw Voldemort's end
It's not so difficult to comprehend
Wormtail's guilty debt from within
Had allowed the Marauders' possession in
Let's wrap this story up; the end is near
Wormtail had picked the right moment to interfere
He must serve his full purpose before he dies
Read on, Dragix will explain the what, how and why's
God had made him a traitor living among mice
Stabbing your best friend is worse than malice
Look closer into his heart; dive deeper into his head
Deep down he knows he should've died instead
For years and years unseen was the masterpiece he built
A never-ending hole of bottomless guilt
Then one day he was given the moment to die a hero
He will make his last betrayal and start from zero
With one final choice the Gryffindor finally paid his price
Here ends Dragix's tale of
Wormtail's Sacrifice
Author notes: More avid Harry Potter fans will realize that Wormtail's "silver knife" mentioned a couple times in this chapter is not a knife at all. It's common knowledge that a werewolf's worst weakness is "silver" and Wormtail was given a "silver" hand at the end of GoF... Lupin is a werewolf. It doesn't take an alchemist to put 2 and 2 together. I just used the word "knife" because that's a metaphor of what "backstabbers" (traitors like Wormtail) are known for using.
