Chapter Four

The Ugly Duckling

Part I

You stupid, stupid wanker! Why did you have to get yourself drunk and sleep with him!? Nothing of this would have happened!

Draco wanted to hit his head against the wall, but resisted when he heard the doorbell rang. He walked to it, but he didn't open it.

No, it can't be him, can it? He stared at the door, biting his lip. Nah, it's probably some peddler or something. Sighing he turned away from the door.

"Oh, my Love, if it's all I can do, I'll take the fall for you"

What the hell? he looked back, listening closely.

"'Cause I will soar when I lay down with you and give my all for you"

Draco had almost clued his ear against the door, listening to Harry's beautiful, but manly voice singing to him.

Suddenly the voice fell silent. Draco pushed himself away from the door, glaring at it as if the silence was its fault.

Draco heard a deep sigh and footsteps. He hurried to open the door before Harry would leave.

Harry stopped as he heard the door open, but he didn't turn around.

"Harry."

Harry turned slowly around, seeing Draco standing at the door. "You don't look so good." Harry said, looking down at his feet.

"I haven't been feeling too good either," Draco replied quietly, biting his lip again.

Harry took a few steps, coming a few feet closer. "Me neither," he said, trying desperately to find the right words.

An uncomfortable silence fell over them.

Harry coughed awkwardly. "Can I come in?"

Draco tilted his head to one side. "It depends."

Harry sighed. "On what?"

"If you are going to shout at me, then you can forget about it," Draco said, starting to close the door.

"No, wait!" Harry rushed between the door and the doorframe, keeping it from closing. "I'm sorry about what I said earlier."

Draco looked at him doubtfully. "Are you really?"

"Yes. Please, Draco, let me in," he pleaded.

Draco sighed. "Make sure that I won't regret it," Draco said, letting Harry in.

A silence surrounded them as the door closed. They looked anywhere but each other.

"Would you like something to drink?" Draco asked, walking into the kitchen.

"No, thanks." Harry looked around, noticing that the flat didn't look like he had imagined. "Nice place you got here."

"Thanks." Draco returned with a bottle of Butterbeer in his hand. "We can sit in the living room."

They sat down on the opposite sides of the couch as far as they could get from each other.

"I'm sorry," Harry said after he thought the silence had been going on too long.

"You don't have to apologies. It should be me; I was the one who tricked--"

"Could we not blame each other or ourselves about this? We both made a mistake and that is the end of it." Harry ran his hands through his hair, keeping his voice from sounding frustrated.

"So, what do you suggest? You want to go back what it was? You want Thomas, not me!" Draco's temper flared, feeling threatened.

"No! That is not what I want," Harry said, sighing. "I would not be here if I wanted Thomas. I realised that the person I saw was the real you." He turned to look at Draco for the first time, since entering the flat.

Draco still didn't look at him, fearing that if he did, Harry would disappear.

"I have something for you."

This got Draco to look at Harry, who was reaching into his pocket. Harry pulled out his wand.

I didn't even realise it was gone. He had been too caught up in his problems to notice something so trivial.

"Thank you." Draco took the wand from Harry, smiling slightly.

"Does that mean I'm forgiven?" Harry asked, a smile tugging the corner of his mouth.

"Did you not just say that we should not blame anyone? So, why do you need my forgiveness?"

"Because I need some excuse to kiss you."

Draco's eyes widened. "Are you--"

He didn't have the chance to ask his question when Harry's lips rushed to meet his.

Author's notes:

The lyrics that Harry is singing are from a song called All the way/4u by Poets of the Fall.

If you haven't heard the song, you really should listen it because it gives more power to the scene.
