Final words

Dear Diary,

This will be the last time I write here as when dawn comes so too will come the executioner. I should be happy that Voldemort is destroyed but what I did was...was...I couldn't come up with a word that could describe such an act. I had no choice. Greyback wanted proof that I was on his side. Proof that I didn't like humans. That proof was to be given by me transforming in the middle of town and doing what comes naturally to a werewolf on a full moon. If only that girl hadn't come outside. As likely as not she was sneaking out to see her boyfriend or something but if she had only stayed inside.

I do wonder just what Dumbledore knew when he sent me on this mission. Did he know Greyback would notice that I looked like I had tried to live among humans?

What am I doing? Tossing the blame on a man who's been dead for the past year?

No! Dumbledore couldn't have known just what he was throwing me into. All he knew was, what had to be done and that I was the best and only person who could do it.

Dumbledore's death seemed to make Harry stronger. I am so proud of Harry. He stayed strong through everything. Ginny's murder, the attack on the burrow which killed Molly, everything. Hagrid's death hit him hard too. I think he felt he had let the kindly half giant down.

Harry didn't even tell us his plan to face Voldemort, we learnt about it from Ron. When we got to the churchyard all we could do was keep the Death Eaters busy while Harry duelled for his life. We won; at a price. In the clean up afterwards we found people we didn't expect to find as Death Eaters among both the living and the dead. Percy Weasley was the biggest shock. He's in Azkaban for life now for the murder of Alastor Moody.

Severus came through for us at the end too. He gave his life protecting Harry and Draco Malfoy. He was a brave man to risk his life spying for the order. We learnt that he had made an unbreakable vow to Narcissa Malfoy to protect Draco and to do that he had to kill Dumbledore. Apparently Albus knew what was coming and agreed that Severus should kill him.

Minerva is the only one in the order who know what I did and what will happen to me. She may tell the others if she recovers but last I heard she was still unconscious. She shouldn't have been battling. I had thought that since she took four stunners to the chest at once. They nearly killed her and what she took in the final battle was much worse. My heart goes out to you Minerva and everyone else who is still recovering from the days of Voldemort.

As I see the first beams of light start to shine through my window I can hear the footsteps of Scrimgeour, The Minister of Magic and the new executioner coming closer. Yesterday Greyback was the one waiting for his inevitable execution. Today it's me.

"On this page I write my last confession." An apt quote from Les Miserables although I haven't confessed to anything much tonight. The footsteps have stopped right outside my cell and I know my time is up.
