"Ginny, I love you," Draco repeated.
She bit her lip. "I heard you the first time," she replied softly.
"Dammit, Gin," he said, suddenly very frustrated. "What in the bloody world will it take for you to be with me? What do I have to do? Because, God help me, everything is about you. All I want is you."
She looked up at him. Very quietly and with very soft eyes she said, "Change it."
"Change what?"
"Change what happened. Go back and tell me about the bet before you shag me."
Draco took a step forward. He leaned down and put his face very close to her. "If that's what you want, then I'll find a way to do it," he whispered dangerously. "But you lied to me, little girl. You told me you didn't want to take back shagging me."
"I don't!" she shouted, standing up, her face closer to his now.
"Well what do you think will happen? You think if me from the future tells you in the past that I am only going to shag you to win a bet that you'll do it anyway? Not a chance! If I change the past, the only thing that will happen is that fucking me won't happen. Now is that what you want?"
"I don't know!" she cried.
"Who can't be trusted now?" he asked coldly. "I never asked you to say those things that night when you came looking for your sodding hair clip. You said how much that all meant to you; you said you'd never want to take it back. Now you're asking me to. Bloody hell, Ginny, you are so impossible. It's a wonder, really, why Potter left you." His voice was dripping with sarcasm and irritation by the end of his rant.
She reached up and grabbed the butterfly from her hair. She threw it onto the ground and the emeralds that studded the clip shattered. Ginny gave him one last pleading look before ascending the stairs. Draco knew that he had said some terrible things and that the poor girl felt lost and broken more than anything.
To be honest, she had no idea what she wanted, or what she was going to do. But right now, all she wanted was to get some sleep.
She sat in an armchair by the fireplace in the common room, still wearing the emerald gown. Her hair was disheveled where she had torn the butterfly out, and tears now streaked her previously made-up face. She was so flustered and confused. Why wouldn't she give him another chance? Why did she keep pushing him away?
"That was rough," she heard someone say behind her.
She half thought she'd see Draco when she turned around, but realizing that they were inside Gryffindor House, she seriously doubted it.
"What do you want?" Ginny asked. Her tone wasn't pleasant, but it wasn't cold either.
The boy walked around and stood in front of her. Her brother, Ron, knelt down and took her by the hand. "Ginny, what's going on?" he asked her gently.
"You know very well what's going on."
"I mean with you."
"I want him to go away!"
He pushed a lock of her hair behind her ear. "Is that really what you want?" he questioned. "Because if you don't -"
"Ron, stop," she said weakly.
"No, Gin. Now you listen to me. I don't like that bloody bastard, Malfoy, and you know it. But, dammit Ginny, if you care about him, I'll get over it. You have to give the guy some credit when he starts talking to all of the people that love you - who hate him - so he can ask how to make you forgive him. Now, it bothers me that my little baby sister is shagging half of the seventh-years at Hogwarts, but that's an entirely different issue."
She fumed. "I did not shag half of the seventh years!" she exclaimed.
He smiled. "I'm just trying to annoy you."
"Well, good job."
"Malfoy is in his dormitory," Ron stated as he stood up. "I told him I'd get you there. In one hour, go meet him in his room."
And he was gone.
*****
Draco was so flustered.
His heart was shattering from hearing that she wanted him to actually change the past. If they didn't get everything worked out, he always knew he'd at least have that memory to hold onto. At the very least he knew that in that one way, they'd have always shared something special. She'd have always been his first.
But now that wasn't so.
He stalked back into the Grand Ballroom where everyone was dancing. He was happy that everyone had resumed having a good time and hopeful that they'd all forgotten his little outburst.
He spotted Harry, Ron, and Hermione sitting at a table together and reluctantly walked over to them. He glanced at the three of them before sitting down in a vacant chair.
Harry was first to speak. "So I take it all isn't well?" he asked of Draco.
"She told me to change it," Draco answered sadly. "Go back and tell her about the bet before we..." he trailed off, not wanting to make Ron incredibly uncomfortable. "But if I do, then it would never have happened."
"A ladies man like yourself should be able to get over the loss of a shag, Malfoy," Ron said coldly. "I mean, really, what is one less in the grand scheme of things?"
Draco made a strange noise under his breath that sounded almost like a growl. "For your information, Weasley, that was it. She was it. I mean, that was the only time - with anyone. Ginny -"
Ron didn't know how to respond, so instead he reached over and whispered something to Hermione. Hermione nodded, excused herself, and then ran from the ballroom.
Harry asked, "Are you willing to do it?"
"Take it back?" Draco asked. "Potter, I'd do anything for her."
A moment later Hermione returned.
"Malfoy," she said quietly, sitting next to him. She took his hand and placed something in it - it looked like an hourglass. "This is a time-turner. I don't need it anymore, but you might. If you really want to change the past, if you're willing to do that for her, then take it."
Draco smiled sadly and took the time-turner from her. "Do you think that one of you could ask her to meet me in my dormitory?" he asked.
"I'll do it," Ron said.
*****
Ginny walked through the halls, looking like a disheveled mess. She approached his room and stood outside it for a moment before taking a deep breath and gently knocking on his door.
The door creaked open, and she stepped inside.
He looked at her. Ginny really was a mess. Her lip reddening had worn off by then, her elegantly styled hair was a mess, and her makeup had run in black streaks against her white face. She was still wearing the tiara and the gown and was also fluttered with silver glitter. Despite all of this, Draco thought she looked beautiful.
Ginny entered the room and stood beside the Slytherin boy. She did not look at him - only at the floor. More tears were sliding down her face and he saw her bite her lip. He took her hand and gently placed the time-turner in it. He walked away from her and sat down on the bed, looking very sadly at the floor.
"What is this?" she asked quietly.
"You asked me to change it," Draco said frankly. "You told me you wanted me to change the course of history, and I've found a way. I'll go back in time, and we can take this back. All of it." He looked at her, and for the first time that night, they locked eyes. He saw her bite her lip again and he abruptly looked away. "So, Weasley, tell me if that is what you really want."
She walked over to him and knelt down in front of him on the floor beside the bed. "Draco -"
"No," he cut her off. He took her by her upper arms and shook her abruptly and viciously. "No, Ginny. I don't want to talk about it. I only need one word - yes or no. You tell me right now." Draco pulled her to a standing position and then forced her to sit down on the bed beside him. "I'm done playing these games, and I am done chasing after you. Now you tell me if this is really what you want, because once it's done..."
They sat beside each other. Ginny stared at him for several moments before saying, "Why won't you look at me?"
"I can't," he answered roughly.
"Look at me."
"It hurts to look at you."
She reached over and touched his face, gently nudging his face to look at her. She put her fingers beneath his chin to force him to look at her. They locked eyes again. Green and grey.
Before Draco knew what happened, Ginny kissed him. She crashed her lips into his. There was a clash of tongues and lips and teeth, and Draco thought she tasted like fire. The passion in her lips burned, and he couldn't get enough of it. He pulled the tiara from her hair and tossed it aside before laying her down flat on her back in his bed, never breaking the kiss.
He moved his lips to her neck and her throat as she undid the buttons that led down his shirt. He wiggled his arms slightly so that she could remove it from him completely. Ginny flipped him onto the bed and to lie on top of him. She leaned forward to kiss his neck gently before moving down to his chest, kissing a trail to his stomach. He unfastened the bodice of her gown as she was doing this and soon her dress was entirely undone. She broke away from him for a moment as she slid from her dress. Ginny also heard him undo his trousers as she was doing this.
In only a few moments, the pair of them were in only their undergarments. Ginny was beneath him again and Draco reached between them to touch her breast when she abruptly stopped him. She got up off of the bed and walked across the room.
"No," she said softly. "I can't do this - no!"
Frustrated, Draco said, "Why not?"
She looked at him and her eyes welled with tears.
Suddenly a little more sympathetic, Draco approached her and put his hands on her shoulders. She tried to turn away, but he did not let her. His crystal clear eyes pierced through her, waiting for her to look at him.
"I'm sorry," she cried abruptly.
Draco blinked. "For what?"
"For everything!" she exclaimed. She finally looked into his eyes and, for the first time, she saw warmth. He wrapped his arms around her as she threw her arms around his neck. She sobbed into his chest and said, "I don't know why I was so stubborn and mean to you. I don't know why I didn't just let it go. I - I love you, Draco, so much. You are the first man who has ever tried so hard to make me happy. If I'd have let you use that time-turner, I wouldn't have been worth it. I can't believe I ever even suggested that."
"You're worth the world, Ginny, under any circumstances."
He picked her up and laid her down on the bed. They crawled beneath the sheets as Draco started doing unimaginably pleasant things to her that she couldn't describe to anyone if she tried. Her body was so numb with need and desire and passion that she didn't know what was happening to her. It was the most amazing feeling she'd ever felt. For the first time, she let go of everything and poured every emotion into him. She was free of everything except him. She wrapped her arms around him as he began to make love to her.
"Draco," she whispered in his ear.
"Ginny?" he asked.
"Be gentle."
He smiled at her, and took his time with her. They never stopped locking eyes the entire time. Ginny's mind was all over the place with so many different thoughts. This had been an entirely different experience for her. When she made love to Harry, it was almost painful. It wasn't that she didn't want to be with him then, but she knew something was missing the entire time. The first time she was with Draco, it was pure passion. She could feel him throughout her entire body, burning with her with their desire.
This time, however, she felt something entirely different. This wasn't want and desire and passion. It was natural. For the first time, she felt like she was complete. But his lovemaking was in no way devoid of passion and want - she never felt more wanted in her life than she did in those moments.
He collapsed on her chest, the two of them completely breathless. He kissed her lips so gently, so tenderly, that her heart felt like it would literally melt. The kiss lasted only a few seconds, but the deliberate motions of his mouth on hers made her feel like it could have been forever.
"Oh Ginny -," he whispered in her ear as they blissfully fell asleep.
*****
Draco woke up.
He knew it must have been early; he could still see the darkness outside of his window. He gently moved Ginny's arms and legs that he had been entwined with and got out of bed. Placing a bathrobe around himself, he exited his room and walked into the hall.
"How'd it go?" he heard a voice say from a short distance away.
Draco cleared his throat. "What time is it, mate?"
"It's late." Harry stepped into view and approached Draco. "So, how'd it go?"
Draco couldn't help but smile. "We're okay now."
Harry smirked. "Just okay?"
Draco looked away, not embarrassed, but trying not to give anything away, but it was obvious; Harry knew what happened. Instead, the blonde boy said, "She's still in there."
Harry patted the other boy on the back. "I'm glad."
"What happened between you to?" Draco asked abruptly. "If you don't mind me asking," he added as an afterthought.
Harry nodded and looked down. "We had sex, and it was the best experience of my life. But she didn't feel it, and I knew she didn't, so I broke up with her." He paused for a moment and gave a sad, inward chuckle. "She's something isn't she?"
"She is," Draco agreed.
"It's funny. When we dated, she said something about you once."
"Oh yeah?"
"She asked me why I never kissed her the way you kissed Pansy. She asked me why I didn't ever want her like that, so that's why I thought she'd want me to take another step."
"I've never felt for Pansy like I feel for her," Draco said honestly.
"Do you love her?"
"I love her so much it scares the shit out of me."
"Then go back in there," Harry said, nodding toward Draco's bedroom. "She will be pissed if she wakes up without you."
Draco nodded towards Harry. They shared a moment of understanding that night. Draco understood that the Gryffindor boy cared very deeply for Ginny and always would. Harry realized how deeply in love Ginny and Draco were. The two boys would never be friends, but they weren't really enemies, either.
As Harry promised, Draco stepped back into the dormitory and Ginny had awoken. She was covering her otherwise naked self with the bed sheets, her hair was a mess of red waves, and she had a pouty scowl on her face as she looked at her - whatever he was - when he walked through the door.
"Did I wake you?" he asked.
"You left me," she said, still pouting.
Draco smiled at the girl in his bed. He removed his robe and slipped back underneath the covers. He put his arms around her and she snuggled into his warm and comfortable embrace. He never wanted to let go of her, and he never wanted her to be unhappy. At that moment, he promised himself that he'd take care of her forever.
"Something on your mind?" she asked, noticing his thoughtful expression.
He smiled at her. "Just you."
Seeming satisfied, she relaxed and fell asleep. But he didn't. In fact, he spent the rest of the night watching her sleep. He wondered what she was dreaming or feeling, and every breath she took and every time she moved was an adventure for him. She was perfect - his angel - and for the first time in his life he felt content.
