CHAPTER 1: The Beginning

Lily Evans grinned as she looked at herself in the mirror. Her long, vibrant red hair dropped down her back in a neat braid, with a blue and white baseball cap turned around, planted firmly on top of her head. She was wearing a blue and white soccer jersey with black gym shorts, blue and white striped rugby socks and her dark blue Nikes. She smirked when she imagined the look on the faces of the extremely obnoxious boys in her school. She was totally going to kick their asses at soccer that day, plus, it was the last day of school for a week- two whole days without the presence of the annoying gum-chewing nerds in class. She whistled as she walked slowly down the stairs to eat breakfast.

"Morning Petunia!" she said, giving her blonde haired sister a hug.

"Good morning darling Lily," Petunia said before biting into a forkful of blueberry pancakes. She was the total opposite to Lily, besides being three years older. She had sleek blonde hair tied back with a pink satin ribbon and sparkling blue eyes; she was dressed in a pink sundress and a white cardigan, with clean white sandals on her feet.

Lily sat down, poured herself some orange juice and took a bite out of her own plateful of blueberry pancakes. She chatted with her parents, gave them kisses before putting her dirty dishes into the sink and running to the bathroom to brush her teeth. She ran back downstairs, grabbed her bag and screamed goodbye to her parents.

Petunia shook her head before giggling, brushing her teeth and moving to school. She usually got to school perfectly on time. Lily got there earlier in order to beat the boys at soccer.

-*-*-

Lily and Petunia walked home that afternoon. Petunia did not have any ballet classes and Lily did not have baseball or soccer practice. The two of them were laughing about how Lily had beaten the class bully in a decent soccer game. Little did they know about the news that lay before them when they reached home.

-*-*-

When their family finished eating dinner, the four of them went into the den. Lily and Petunia looked bewildered. They only went into the den when they had serious family meetings and such. A letter lay on the table addressed to Lily. She opened it nervously. The letter read:

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry

Headmaster: Albus Dumbledore

(Order of Merlin, First Class, Grand Sorcerer, Chief Warlock,

International Confederation of Wizards)

Dear Miss Evans,

We are pleased to inform you of your acceptance into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of necessary books and equipment and a train pass for Hogwarts Express. Please be advised that term begins on 1 September. We await your owl by 31 July.

Yours sincerely,

Minerva McGonagall

Deputy Headmistress

Lily looked surprised. "I´m a witch?"

Her parents nodded. "Your Aunt Helena is also a witch. She had already sent the acceptance owl to Hogwarts, and would take you to Diagon Alley for your school equipment," her father said softly. "I am a wizard, but I chose to live in the muggle world to be with your mother."

"I´m also a squib. That means that I was born into a magical family, but did not have any magical ability," her mother said softly.

Petunia looked at Lily with an ashen face, "This is going to separate us for a while, Lil. I´m seriously going to miss you."

Lily gave her sister a shaky smile, "Don´t worry. I´ll write to you all the time, and send you plenty of kisses."

The sisters hugged each other, with tears pouring down their faces.

-*-*-

Lily woke up the next day feeling quite ill. It was a Saturday, but that did not help anything, because she and Petunia had cried themselves to sleep after hearing the big news. Her Aunt Helena was coming over to take her to Diagon Alley and to talk to her about the magical world. She saw a blonde haired woman with green eyes leaning against the doorway to her room.

"Good morning Lily. It´s been a while, hasn´t it?" the woman said, as she glided across the room and sat down on the foot of Lily´s bed.

"Hi Auntie Helen, I missed you so much," Lily whispered as she gave the demure woman a sad smile. Helena Evans smiled as she comforted the distraught child.

"If it makes anything better, we´re going shopping today. We´ll have a lot of fun finding you new things, and a familiar," Helena said as she pulled Lily off the bed and pushed her into the direction of the shower. When the sound of rushing water came out from the bathroom, she waved her wand to fix the room. She walked over to Lily´s dresser and got out a yellow sleeveless shirt, a black cardigan, a pair of Capri pants and some underwear along with some white socks. She also got out a pair of black sneakers and a black beret from the closet. She exited the room to go to the dining room where the rest of the family was eating breakfast.

Lily entered the dining room a few minutes later and sat down beside Petunia. The two girls were wearing similar frowns, yet Petunia´s eyes seemed more bloodshot than Lily´s. She was still in her pink pajamas, and seemed ill, even with the French toast and hot chocolate that was sitting in front of her. Lily finished eating quickly, hugging Petunia for a long time afterwards.

"I´ll find you something nice, Tunia, promise," she said before running back to her room to brush her teeth. When she finished her preparations, she ran back down to find her aunt patiently waiting for her.

"Ready?" Helena asked her calmly, before walking to her.

"Yes, Auntie," was her meek answer, before being held tightly and disappearing.

AUTHOR´S NOTES:

This is my first attempt at a Harry Potter fic. Please be wise enough to follow the arrow at the end of this point and review. Also, howlers would not be accepted. I hope to get good critique and such. This is dedicated to Wheezes who gave me plenty of ideas from her other fiction.
