Lily and James Fanfic! ~*DeAtH*~

James, Lily and Harry, the perfect family. One night, the three of them were sitting around a fire, which was crackling merrily. James and Lily Potter had been married for about three years now and had a year old son named Harry. Lily was holding the sleeping baby in her arms as James put his arm around Lily and moved Harry's untidy black hair away from his forehead.

Then, the door burst open. "Hello Potters!" came the voice of their best friend, Sirius Black. "How' s my godson tonight?" he asked as Harry woke up and started crying. "Oops…" Sirius said, taking Harry from Lily and started rocking him back and forth. When Harry had finally stopped crying, Sirius gave him back to his mother and pulled out a parcel that he had set down behind the couch.

"What is that?" Lily asked curiously eyeing the package. She took one arm off of Harry and reached for it. "No, no…not for you," Sirius said, wagging his finger. He handed the parcel to James, as he was about to start ripping it open. "No, not for you either." Sirius told him as he took Harry away from Lily, sat on the couch and grabbed the parcel from James. "Here ya go," Sirius gave Harry the package.

Harry gave a smile of delight as he grabbed the package and started ripping it up violently and throwing shreds of wrapping paper around the living room. Sirius opened the box and lifted out a small model of a Quidditch field, including fourteen little people that were flying around. (Seven in red and seven in green) It looked as if they were playing a real game. Harry started spitting on the green people.

"I always knew he was smart," Sirius told them.

"Takes after me," James said, leaning in for a closer look at the Quidditch field model.

"Ohhh!" Harry yelled, pointing at the golden snitch that was nearly on the ground of the Quidditch model. "Nitch!" he yelled.

"Well, well, well, looks like we've got ourselves a seeker here," Sirius said, looking very pleased.

"Now, Sirius, did you buy that Quidditch model for Harry, or for the two of you to play with?" Lily asked, smiling.

"Well, we will have to keep it away from him until he's uhhh…ummm…of age!" James told her.

"Yeah, little parts and babies don't mix. He might try and stuff a bludger up his nose or something," Sirius replied, grinning.

"Honestly…" Lily smiled, walking into the kitchen.

"James!" came a voice from the fireplace.

James looked at the fireplace to see his former headmaster, Albus Dumbledore's head in the fire. "Yes, Professor?" James smiled.

But, however, Dumbledore didn't return the smile, as a matter of fact; he was looking more somber than usual. "I was wondering, could I pop by for a few moments?"

    "Why, of course," James said.

Within a few seconds, they hard a small 'pop' and Dumbledore was standing right in the middle of their living room. "Why, hello Professor," Lily said warmly as she entered the living room with mugs and a pot of steaming hot chocolate. She set the tray down and said, "Accio!" and another mug came zooming through the door and into her hand. Then, took Harry from Sirius and settled herself onto the couch.

"Thank you," Dumbledore accepted the cup and settled himself on the couch. "Now, I have some very important news to attend to."

"What is it, Professor?" James asked, going over to Lily and putting his arm protectively around her shoulders and looking down at his year old baby.

"I have just been told-from a very reliable source-that Lord Voldemort is after the two of you next," Dumbledore replied sadly.

James worst fear had come true; he hugged Lily tightly and looked down at his only child. "Are you sure, Professor?" he asked after a few moments.

"That is what my sources have said, and they have my complete trust," he finished. "I think your best chance would be the Fidelius Charm."

"What's that?" Sirius asked, James looked over at him and he was a sickly pale.

"It contains a secret inside one, single living soul and can only be broken if the Secret-Keeper decides to voluntary hand over the information," Dumbledore explained.

"Lils?" James asked. They looked into each other's eyes. They communicated best like that, with their eyes. Lily nodded and James said, "Sirius will be our Secret-Keeper." Lily nodded in agreement.

"Are you sure? I will be glad to be your Secret-Keeper, if you wish," Dumbledore stood up.

"No, it has to be Sirius," James replied, taking Harry from Lily. 'Would Harry grow up without knowing us? No! He's going to have his parents.' James hugged Harry protectively as Dumbledore was writing something with a quill.

"What is it?" Sirius asked Lily who was examining the instructions.

"Directions for the Fidelius Charm. Professor Dumbledore will stop by tomorrow so we can perform it on Sirius," Lily told them as Dumbledore Dissapparated.

"Okay," James said as the three of them went upstairs to put Harry to bed. "Goodnight Champ," James whispered to Harry.

"Goodnight Sweetheart," Lily bent down to kiss Harry's forehead as he gave a giggle and grabbed some of Lily's hair. James untangled Harry's tiny fingers from Lily's flaming red hair.

"Goodnight tyke," Sirius said, ruffling his hair as the three of them exited the nursery and sat down in the living room. "Are you sure you want to use me?" Sirius asked the two of them.

    "Yes," Lily replied.

    "Why?" James asked.

"Because, you know that I would rather die than betray you two and little Harry. But, all the same James and Lils, practically everyone in the wizarding world knows that we are best friends and that I would be the obvious choice. I'm just saying, why don't you make someone else your Secret-Keeper?" Sirius explained. Then, continued, "That way, Voldemort would come after me, thinking that I would be your Secret-Keeper and I would go into hiding."

"That makes sense…scary as that is that Sirius is actually making sense but," Lily smiled.

    "Who? Remus?" James suggested.

"No, no, still too obvious," Sirius said thinking. Then, it came to him. "Peter!" he exclaimed.

"Peter?" Lily asked, raising her eyebrows. "That chubby boy that kept following the three of you around?"

"No Sirius! A little weakling like Peter? He would hand the information over to Voldemort if he even took out his wand." James shouted.

"Exactly," Sirius grinned his famous mischievous smile that he always wore at Hogwarts. "He won't go looking for Peter, he'll come looking for me and the three of you will be safe."

"Peter?" James asked. "I never did like him, always hero-worshipping us and stuff." James rolled his eyes.

"So…what do you think?" Sirius asked hopefully.

"I don't like the sound of Peter being our Secret-Keeper…" Lily told them.

"Okay, we will tell Peter to go into hiding too," Sirius told them.

James looked at a picture that was on the wall of the four Maurderers at graduation and saw Peter, who was short, chubby and practically a squib. He couldn't perform Wingardium Leviosa until halfway through their second year. "Peter?" James said unsurely.

'Pop' "Hello Potters!" Remus Lupin exclaimed as he hugged James and Lily. "Sirius!" he exclaimed as he hugged Sirius as well.

"Hey Moony," James and Sirius said together.

"What's wrong Lils?" Remus asked as he noticed that Lily was staring blankly into the fire.

Sirius grabbed Remus' shoulder and steered him into the kitchen as James went to talk to Lily. "What's happening Padfoot?" Remus asked.

"Voldemort is after Lily and James," Sirius said quietly.

Remus, like Sirius turned a sickly pale and asked, "Are you sure? How did you know?"

"I got here earlier and Dumbledore came and told them, we're going to use the Fidelius Charm and Peter is going to be their Secret-Keeper," Sirius said very hurriedly.

Remus was very clever and knew what the Fidelius Charm was. "Peter? A weak little thing like Peter? No way! Peter will blab on them if Voldemort came within a hundred feet of him!"

"Yes, that is why James and Lily wanted to use me or you but I told them 'no' because one of us would be the obvious choice and Voldemort would surely come after us since the whole wizarding world knows that the three of us are best friends," Sirius said quickly.

    "Why Peter?" Remus almost yelled.

"Because Voldemort wouldn't expect him. He wouldn't suspect a useless, weak thing like Peter to be their Secret-Keeper! The three of us would go into hiding, Voldemort would come after us and leave Peter and Lily and James, does that makes sense?" Sirius asked.

"That's actually smart," Remus told him.

They re-entered the living room to find Lily, folded up in James' arms and them lying on the couch, looking into the fire. "Hey," they said to Sirius and Remus.

"So, it's settled, I'll Apparate to Peter's and tell him to come over here tomorrow to have the Fidelius Charm performed on him," Sirius said. And, with a small 'pop' he was gone.

Within ten minutes, Sirius was back and he and Remus both left.

    "James?" Lily asked.

"Yes, love?" James replied to her, kissing the top of her head.

"I love you, and if anything happens to me-" she started but was cut off by James.

"Nothing is going to happen to you. I'd die so that you could live on Lils; I'm not going to let anything happen to you. I'd fight to the end so nothing happens to you and Harry. I promise" he finished as they both got up and headed to bed.

~*~*~The Next Day~*~*~

"Hello, Professor," Lily Evans greeted Dumbledore sleepily as she came into the living room from the kitchen, holding baby Harry.

"Good morning, oh well, hello Harry," Dumbledore bent down to look at Harry's face. "He has your eyes."

"Yes, but unfortunately he inherited James' hair," Lily joked.

"What's wrong with my hair?" came James' voice from the stairs as he came in and ruffled Lily's red hair.

"Nothing, I love your hair," Lily said, kissing his forehead.

"Good," James grinned, taking Harry over to the couch and started playing with the Quidditch Model.

Then, with two small 'pops' Remus and Sirius were standing in the living room and within ten seconds, they were all gathered around the Quidditch model. "Where's Peter?" Lily asked.

"Oh, he hasn't passed his Apparating test yet so he's going to come here in Anigimus form," Remus told her, not taking his eyes off of the Quidditch model.

Ten minutes later, Peter came into their house and the Fidelius Charm was performed.

~*~*~A Few Days Later~*~*~

Lily, James and Harry were sitting in the living room, playing with Harry's Quidditch model when James suddenly felt very exposed. "Lily?" he asked suddenly, knowing what was happening.

"I know, Peter told," Lily said, taking Harry in her arms.

"I knew he couldn't be trusted!" James exclaimed.

    "Poor Peter," she whispered.

"Poor Peter! Poor Peter? Poor us! We're the ones Voldemort is after!" James yelled.

"Yes, but imagine what Voldemort did to him in order to get the information," she saw the bewildered look on James' face and continued, "Let's get out of here."

They immediately ran into the kitchen and tried to get out of the backdoor, but it was locked, "Accio Wand!" Lily said as the wand came zooming to her from the living room. "Alohamora!" She tried the lock again but it wouldn't budge. She tried a few more spells but nothing worked. "Voldemort," she whispered.

Then, they heard a high, cruel laugh, a laugh that wasn't human and they knew who it was. "Lily! Go! Take Harry and run! I'll try and hold him off!"

"James! I love you!" Lily yelled, giving her husband a kiss as he returned the kiss.

"I love you too!" he said to her.

Then, with that, she ran down the hallway and bolted up the stairs. Then, James went into the living room just in time to see the door blown off its hinges and a cloaked man, his wand held high said, "James Potter."

"Voldemort," James said, clutching his wand.

"Pity, you chose the wrong side," Voldemort said, advancing on James, who was backing into the kitchen. 'Please Lily, please be running, please be out of here.'

"I could've used someone with your abilities," Voldemort continued, still advancing on James.

'Just a little further,' James thought.

"Now, we duel," Voldemort stopped suddenly in the middle of the living room.

'Duel?' James thought. 'Good way to stall time.'

James stopped backing into the kitchen and looked at Voldemort. They both bowed but as soon as James had straightened up, he saw a flash of bright green light and heard Voldemort's high, cruel laugh, and then no more.

"Aveda Kedavra," Lily heard Voldemort say.

Lily, blinded by tears was trying to get a crying baby Harry into a jacket (being October, it was very cold.) Then, turned around to see Voldemort facing her, his wand held high.

"Move aside, girl," Voldemort said to her.

"No, not Harry! Kill me instead!" Lily said.

"Move and you will be spared," Voldemort continued.

"Have mercy, have mercy, kill me instead!" she shouted, clutching her wand, but knowing that it would be no use. She knew what was coming.

"Well, then, Aveda Kedavra," he said almost lazily.

Lily too, saw a flash of green light and heard Voldemort's high, cruel laugh and then knew nothing more.

Voldemort advanced on Harry and pointed his wand at him. "Aveda Kedavra!"

Then, he (Voldemort) felt a searing pain in his chest and his head felt as if it was on fire. "Nooooo!" he wailed.

~*~*~A Few Hours Later~*~*~

Sirius came riding up to the Potters house on his enchanted motorcycle. He gasped when he saw the once beautiful house in ruins. He hoped against hope that when he went inside he wouldn't see what he was thinking. He was wrong. He saw James' body, lying on the floor. His wand a few inches from his hand, he had obviously tried to hold Voldemort off. "Prongs!" he muttered, falling to his knees and started weeping.

Then, he looked around the destroyed living room, expecting to see Lily and Harry's bodies but didn't see them. He straightened up and walked into the kitchen, nothing. 'Maybe they got away!' He walked down the hall and into the bathroom, study, and James' Quidditch room. Still no Lily or Harry. Then, he went up the stairs and looked into Lily and James' bedroom and adjoining bathroom. No one. He went to the guestroom and spare bathroom. Sirius was feeling a little bit better by then. He saw the nursery door ajar and walked down the hall. He saw Lily, dead. Her wand still clutched in her hand. 'Lils!' he thought as he started weeping for her.

"Siri!" Came a baby's voice from the crib. "Siri!"

He looked towards the crib to see baby Harry, holding his hands up. Sirius immediately got up and looked around the nursery, thinking that Voldemort was still there. Then, he ran to the crib and picked up Harry. "Mummy!" Harry pointed at Lily's lifeless body.

Sirius' eyes filled with tears. "It's okay, champ. You're going to live with me now."

Then, Sirius felt a presence behind him and nearly dropped Harry in fright, thinking that it was Voldemort. He turned around to see Hagrid. (I'm not going to try and talk like Hagrid with all of the 'yer' and stuff so…yeah…anyways.) "Sirius? What are you doing here?"

"I'm here to rescue Harry. He's going to live with me," Sirius said, hugging Harry.

"Nope, got to take him to Dumbledore. Orders. I have to take him to his aunt and uncle's." Hagrid replied.

"But, they won't tell him anything! They're Muggles!" Sirius exclaimed.

"I know but, it's Dumbledore's orders," Hagrid continued.

"Well, can I at least say goodbye?" Sirius asked.

    "I suppose," Hagrid said.

Sirius settled himself on the couch on the other side of the nursery. "Well, Harry. It looks like you're going to live with your aunt and uncle's for a while. But, I promise that we will see each other soon." He went down the hall and down the stairs where Hagrid was looking around the destroyed living room. "Okay Hagrid, here he is." He handed Harry over to Hagrid.

"Well, bye Sirius," Hagrid walked out the door.

"Wait!" Sirius yelled to Hagrid's retreating back. "Take my motorbike. I won't be needing it."

Hagrid took it and Sirius stood there, watching until he could no longer see them. 'You're going to pay for this, rat boy.'

And the rest, is history…
