Dear friend,
You would think he was brazen, rude, and egotistical. But he's not, not really. Yesterday was his seventeenth birthday. It was plastered everywhere, like it is every year. I think he's been living with a former convict, but I might have misread the article.
They think I am selfish, and excessively immodest. A show-off in dress and manner. Yes, they are probably right. I don't doubt it, not really. But he's always overshadowed me, him and his cronies. The bushy-haired Granger, clumsy Neville Longbottom. You might not know it, but not long after uncertain, lonely Weasley died, poor, disastrous Neville Longbottom took his place as Potter's best friend. Yes, that Potter. Who else would I be talking about?
Oh, I hope you don't mind me calling you friend. If you read this, remember that I only wrote this letter to sort out any confusion about what's going to happen.
I've had it. Between Potter, my parents, and my rapidly decreasing popularity, even among my Slytherin peers, there's no point in living any longer. Father will only be disappointed in there being no one to carry on the family name. Mother might cry a bit, but she probably won't be sober enough to care.
So I leave this letter for whoever finds it to know why I have left this world, to know that the taunts, pressure, and hatred have become utterly unbearable.
In deep regret,
Draco Malfoy
