'You don't know pain, Harry; the pain of torture or the pain of fear. I can show you, I can make you feel it. I can toy with your emotions, make you overcome with ecstasy and have you wanting to die at the same time. To me you are nothing, nothing but a pawn in my game.'
'You could never do that, you may be powerful, but there are others stronger than you,' spat Harry, staring defiantly at Voldemort. He had no fear of dying, not any more. He had accepted the prophecy and realized his time would come to be murderer or victim. Voldemort smiled, a soft sickening smile with made Harry's insides writhe in displeasure.
'Alas, you are right, Salazar Slytherin had powers greater than my own, but only one living person does,' the high pitched voice changed to a low, threatening tone, 'and that person is amongst my most faithful Death Eaters.' He motioned to the Death Eaters around them with a long fingered, white hand. Harry looked around.
Just wizards of the Dark Arts, he reassured himself, nothing special.
'That's what you think.' Voldemort answered his thoughts, and clicked his fingers. 'Larcenius, show yourself,' and from behind where he stood, Harry heard the movement of a person, and a tall, cloaked figure stepped towards Voldemort, it's face hidden by a dark hood. At first Harry thought Larcenius was a dementor, but as the figure passed him, he felt a tide of warmth, as if he had just stepped into a warm room. Voldemort beckoned and Larcenius reluctantly went to his side, like a lap dog: only obeying its master because of the reward involved. Compared to the Dark Lord, Larcenius was small for an adult, and although s/he seemed to be Voldemort's right hand man, Harry wasn't entirely sure of his or her gender.
Voldemort smiled at the unsure expression on Harry's face and spoke in a voice that one might use with a reluctant child. 'Right then, Larcenius. Shall we show Mr. Potter what we are capable of?'
From beneath the hood, no answer came, just a silence, as if a rhetorical question had been asked.
'Larcenius,' Voldemort cooed testily, 'remember what I can do to you. I think you should greatly consider your next action, as it may be your last.'
The circle of Death Eaters rippled eager to see death. Larcenius stood up straight.
'Fine', came the reply, a barely audible whisper which gave no clue as¬ to it's speaker's gender and only further perplexed Harry.
'I knew you'd co operate,' spoke Voldemort. 'Now, Harry, watch carefully, this may be the first and last time you see this.' He raised his wand and pointed it at Larcenius' chest. 'Crucio!' A jet of light burst out of his wand, but stopped and inch before the target (Larcenius' torso), splintering into a hundred shards that disappeared in an instant. Voldemort looked smugly at the confused face Harry wore. The figure of Larcenius turned on its heel and stalked off towards the Death Eaters, swearing under it's breath.
'Oh, Larcenius,' called Voldemort, turning to the cloaked figure. Harry did not need to see Larcenius' face as the figure spun around, it was clear that being Voldemort's new toy was a great annoyance.
'Crucio!' Came 's high, icy voice, taking Harry by shock. Larcenius dropped to the ground, the hood flying back as it happened. What Harry saw took him aback~. A girl, not much older than him, her black hair pulled back tightly behind her head. She had doubled up onto her knees and had her head bowed at Voldemort's feet as if this was a common routine.
'Now then, Larci,' came Voldemort's voice again as he grabbed her wrist and pulled her roughly to her feet. 'What have I told you about cursing swearing around me?' The softness in his voice was unnerving; he spoke slowly, mocking her. Harry could see Larcenius was shaking, from anger of fear, he wasn't quite sure which. She pulled back from her master and spat viciously at his feet.
'Don't call me that.' Her voice was like venom, sharp and hard. Through piercing red eyes Voldemort glared at her; lazily he flicked his wand and Larcenius' hands flew to her throat as if some invisible force was strangling her. Harry watched, not sure whether to help the girl or run. Every time Voldemort's wand rose, Larcenius hovered a few feet higher in the air, her hands still clamped around her neck. Voldemort looked at her warily as if he had done this a thousand times before, something Harry didn't doubt for a second.
'You were rude Larci, you know you have to be punished. Of course I could kill you, but then I would have wasted years of painstaking training.'
Larcenius spat down at Voldemort again, narrowly missing him. Where she was getting all this saliva from was puzzling. Harry looked at her. She had the same defiant, loathing look in her eyes as Malfoy did whenever he saw Harry, and the resemblance was uncanny.
'Put me down you filthy half blood!' Larcenius shouted, or at least tried to; it came out more like a hoarse growl. That's it thought Harry, she is just like Malfoy! One Draco was enough, but two in the same country, that was just unfair! As he watched he noticed the girl had stopped squirming and was concentrating on her breathing. He heard himself slliarmus' . Voldemort was thrown back a few feet and Larcenius dropped to the ground. Quickly she got up and ran to Harry, and grabbing his arm she pulled him away from the group and closed her eyes, muttering an incantation under her breath. She pointed a newly produced wand at the crowd of Death Eaters, and they froze.
'Thank you, Harry. for disarming him.' She motioned to the still form of Lord Voldemort.
'Er yeah, right. But how?'
'I'll tell you after you get back to Sirius.' She produced a pendant from around her neck and gave it to him. 'Put it on and it'll take you to him.'
With a 'pop' Larcenius had dissapparated, leaving Harry wondering who the hell she was and how she knew his godfather. Somewhere behind him, the Death Eaters were beginning to stir, and as the spell wore off, Harry quickly pulled the pendant over his head. For a second nothing happened, then he felt a sudden tug from somewhere behind his navel before the portkey took him back to Sirius.
