- A small ficlet written after reading OOTP. Wrote it to show what I thought could possibly be going on when Harry wasn't watching.
Table for One"
Ginny watched as a small droplet of perspiration slid down the edge of her glass.
I should be the one shedding a tear, not the bloody glass.
Only days ago she had broken up wh Michael Corner and yet she felt nothing. Not elated that she was rid of him or overwhelming sadness that they had broken up. Just a long stretch of nothingness.
That is what the relationship was. Nothingness.
She had started dating Michael because she wanted to be over Harry. Well the plan had worked, she was over him, but once Michael had served his purpose he became nothing. He was some one to pass the time with and that was all. Soon than passing of time became an annoyance. A choir one could call it.
Now what, Weasley? You just sit here alone in Madam Puddifoot's? All alone with no one to talk to or laugh with.
Yup, that is exactly what I'm bloody well going to do.
Her thoughts were starting up their own conversation at this point and it was useless to argue with them.
I don't need a boyfriend to be here. I can sit here with my butter beer and hum myself drinking songs. Hmmm, I wonder how much butter beer you would have to drink to get right pissed?
Ginny took another sip of butter beer as the door chimed signaling a person entering. She glanced up from her drink with widening eyes. In came her brother and Hermione holding hands. They were laughing about something and didn't seem to notice her as they headed for a table in the back corner. Hermione was smiling bigger than Ginny had ever seen and her face was slightly flushed. Ron was in a similar state, a goofy grin plastered to his face and blue eyes dancing with mirth.
The curiosity and temptation were too great for Ginny to resist. into her robes she soon extracted a flesh-like string.
Fred and George would want their extendable ears used for mischief, so they won't mind that I took just this one.
Placing one end in her ear she directed the other towards her brother's table.
"Do you think anyone saw us?" Hermione asked, slightly out of breath.
"No. Almost everyone is studying for the O.W.L. or N.E.W.T."
"As we should be doing. I cannot believe you convinced me to come."
"Hermione, I wanted to take you on a real date. You're the one who wants to keep this a secret."
"Ron...I just don't think it's a good idea to make it public. What with Harry and Voldemort...and you and, and...O.W.L.S. are next week...."
"Hermione, luv you're stuttering," he told her affectionately.
Ginny watched as he craned his neck towards Hermione and placed a gentle kiss on her lips. Reaching up to her ear she took out the extendable ear and placed it back inside her pocket.
I'll keep their secret. At least they finally figured the whole emotion bit out.
Finishing off her last gulp of butter beer Ginny couldn't help but smile.
I'm at a table for one but that's okay because it won't be forever. Now where is my dessert?
