Fred & Katie

Chapter 1

"We're playing Slytherin, so let's kick ass and win," said Oliver Wood.

The Gryffindor Quidditch team was meeting in the locker room a couple of minutes before the game started.

"If we win this one, we'll win the Quidditch Cup," Wood commented.

"Yeah yeah, we know. You've aid that like a hundred times this week," George Weasley complained.

"Never mind," Wood said sounding irritated.

The whole team walked out onto the field. All of them immediately looked up. No one could resist looking up, when they walked out onto the field. Beautiful banners were hanging up all around them (silver and green for Slytherin, scarlet and gold for Gryffindor), the crowd was screaming, and there wasn't a cloud in the sky.

Wood went to shake hands with Flint (Slytherin's team captain), as the other players mounted their brooms. Madam Hooch released the Quaffle to the Chasers and the game began. Katie went chasing after the Quaffle immediately. As she grabbed the Quaffle she could hear Lee Jordan's voice, "Gryffindor in possession, nice catch by Katie Bell". She threw the Quaffle into one of the hoops so fast she was surprised when she heard Lee call out, "Ten points to Gryffindor". Katie was distracted suddenly by a Bludger and swerved to the side if the field. All of the sudden something stopped her broom from flying. She turned her head and saw Malfoy (Slytherin's Seeker) holding down her broom. At the same time, that Bludger decided that she was a pretty good target. She tried to move her broom but Malfoy's grip was to strong. Wham. The Bludger hit her.

She could feel air rushing past her. She was falling. For an instant she was sure she'd be dead in a couple of seconds. But her death didn't come. Someone had caught her. She opened her eyes and looked up. She could see the cloudless sky, "It looks so peaceful," she thought to herself. Then she looked at her catcher. Fred Weasley was smiling down at her.

"You know, you should eat more. You don't weigh a thing," Fred said grinning. He was flying her back to her broom. Out of nowhere came Malfoy.

"Oh, so sorry, hate to break up the couple." He punched Fred in the stomach.

Fred fell about twenty feet before hitting the ground. Katie looked up for a split second and saw everyone, except Harry, zoom down to Fred. She looked a little closer at Harry. Something gold was in his hands. He had caught the Snitch. Gryffindor had won. She then zoomed down unto the grass. Madam Promfrey was shooing away the Gryffindors. Angelina was crying, while Alicia tried to calm her down. Fred was being carried up to the hospital wing, unconscious of anything that had just happened.

Fred awoke and opened his eyes. He was laying in one of many beds in the hospital wing. He looked out the window and realized that it was late evening (because the sun was setting). Now he turned to look around the room and saw someone sitting at the foot of his bed.

"Hi Fred, how are you?" said the speaker. Fred sat up and to his surprise the speaker was Katie Bell.

"Oh, I'm feeling much better," he said sleepily.

"That's great. After I made sure you were ok I went and punched Malfoy. He's right over there," she said pointing to a bed. Fred looked over and saw that Malfoy had a black eye and a cut on his lip.

"Thanks. I appreciate it. Where's Angelina," Fred asked.

"Oh, she left about three hours ago, to go to Hogsmeade with Alicia," Katie said uncomfortably.

Changing the subject, Fred asked, "So, you've been down here this whole time?"

"Yeah I brought my Invisibility Cloak, so Madam Promfrey wouldn't see me. I know this sounds weird, but I wanted to be the first one to see you awake, so I could say that I am say that I am sorry. It's my fault you're here," Katie said and finally breathed.

"Katie, don't be silly. It's Malfoy's fault I'm here. But you've already taken care of him", he said grinning.

"Fred, I also wanted to say thanks for catching me. If it hadn't been for you I'd probably be dead right about now," Katie said feeling better.

"You're welcome," Fred said as he started to move towards Katie. "Want to see something really cool?" he asked her anxiously.

"What?"

"Close your eyes and take my hand," Fred said holding out his hand.

She shut her eyes tight as she grabbed Fred's hand. She felt him slip the Invisibility Cloak over them and lead her out of the room.

"Where are you taking me," she asked quietly.

"You'll see soon," his voiced whispered. A couple of minutes later he said, "We're almost there." After a couple minutes of more walking Katie felt Fred slip something into the Invisibility Cloak. "Ok. Now without opening your eyes, put your leg over this," he said putting her hand on what felt like a stick. Katie swung her leg over the stick, and felt Fred do the same behind her. All of a sudden she felt air rushing past her again. She was tempted to open her eyes but knew better. "Open your eyes," Fred whispered in her ear. She opened her eyes.

It was so beautiful. She was on a broomstick floating over one hundred feet in the air. They were facing the lake and the sun was setting. All of the colors; purples, reds, oranges, and yellows, seemed to blend together with perfection as the most romantic scene anyone had laid eyes on.

"Fred, it's so beautiful," Katie said. Then her mind caught up with her. "You should be up here showing this to Angelina. I mean she is your girlfriend."

"I realized Angelina wasn't my girlfriend when you told me she left me in the hospital wing to go to Hogsmeade with Alicia," Fred said in one breath.

Katie was speechless. Fred started to move towards Katie. "Putting Angelina behind me has brought my true feelings for you to my attention," Fred said gazing into her eyes.

Now Katie was overwhelmed with excitement and fury. She was now torn between her best friend and her longtime crush. She wanted Fred more than anything right now. She wanted to tell him how she secretly had a crush on him since her first year at Hogwarts. But thinking of Angelina's reaction to this, if she found out, Katie sat on the broom unable to respond.

Fred was now steering the broom towards a bench in the stands. He landed the broom and Katie jumped off to go sit down. When Katie sat down Fred sat down right beside her. He took her hand and gently rubbed it against his own. She slowly looked up and gazed into his eyes. Looking into his big blue eyes, she felt as if she could read his soul.

"I think we should work things out between Angelina before we move any further in our relationship," she said, about ready to cry her eyes out. Fred gave an expression on his face as if he was about to cry too.

"Ok," he said sadly. As she got up Fred let her swing her leg over the broomstick as he did so behind her.

As they landed on the grass Katie asked Fred, "Do you want to go for a walk before we go back to the common room?"

"I'd love to," Fred replied anxiously. After Fred put the broomstick away, they walked hand in hand around the lake. For a long time they walked in silence.

After what felt like forever Katie broke the silence, "Fred I've wanted to say this for a really long time. Well, here it goes...I've liked you since our first year at Hogwarts. I wanted to tell you for a really long time but I was too late. By the time I finally worked up the courage to, Angelina told me she had a huge crush on you. I didn't have the heart to separate you two."

Fred stopped walking and, from what Katie could tell, was open mouthed. He finally spoke and was able to say this, "Katie the first time I laid eyes on you, I was head over heels for you. After I got to know you I felt that we would be the perfect pair. But when I started to go out with Angelina my thoughts about my got lost somewhere in my mind. Recently those thoughts have come back to me. I've been dying a little bit every day since those thoughts came back to me. All I want right now is to be with you."

At this point Fred moved closer to her and lightly brushed her cheek moving his hands downward. As he reached the bottom of her chin, he gently pushed up, bringing her eyes to his. "I think we should both follow our hearts a little more often," he said compassionately.

"To follow my heart I'm going to have to do this," Katie said pulling him even closer. Fred put his lips on hers. He put his arms around her back. Katie felt a sense of safeness when she was kissing him. After a few more kisses they slowed down a bit and sat down on a bench near the front entrance of Hogwarts.

Katie sat down and faced Fred, "We have to tell Angelina," she said.

They started to walk up to the castle unaware that Angelina saw the whole thing.

"This feels wrong Fred," Katie said as they almost reached the door.

"Huh?" Fred asked dumbfounded. "It feels wrong to love me?" he asked.

"No. I love you; it's just that Angelina is one of my best friends."
